Laura Elizabeth Alexander

Laura Elizabeth Alexander, 16, 123 Pecan Lane, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born Oct. 19, 1983, in Rowan County she was the daughter of Deborah Diane Duggins and Larry Wayne Alexander, Salisbury. She was a senior at East Rowan High School, where she was co-captain of the dance team.

She was working part time at McDonald’s on East Innes Street in order to earn funds for a trip to Great Britain and Ireland with People to People Student Ambassadors. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sister Julie Kathryn Alexander, of the home; and paternal grandmother Alma Walker, Salisbury.

Services:Memorials, 2 p.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. James H. Foil, associate pastor.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Ned Wilson Bebber

KANNAPOLIS — Ned Wilson Bebber, 86, 704 Chapel St., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after two years of declining health.

Born May 31, 1914, in Alexander County, Mr. Bebber was a son of the late Carrie Thomas and Early Little Bebber. A loom fixer for Collins-Aikman in Concord until his retirement, he later worked part time for Cannon Mills, Plant 4, and Tuscarora Mills, China Grove, until illness prevented him from working.

He attended Rodgers Park Baptist Church. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of VFW Post 8989.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Annie B. Bebber; sons Jerry N. Bebber, Taylorsville, and Bobby W. Bebber, of the home; daughters Marcia L. Wilhelm, Salisbury, Wanda B. Aistrop, China Grove, and Libby S. Bebber, of the home; sisters Cecil B. Canup, Blanche B. Canup, Inez Johnson and Hazel Watts, all of Kannapolis, and Mildred Medlock, Taylorsville; brother John Bebber, Taylorsville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home,conducted by the Rev. Dr. James Strickland. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Mary Bost

Mary Elizabeth Deal Bost, 96, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at the Salisbury Lutheran Home.

Born July 31, 1904, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bost was a daughter of the late Hattie Goodman and Arthur L. Deal. A homemaker, she was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College.

She was former owner and operator of Rose City Nursery in the Maiden area. She was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Ira H. Bost, died in 1967.

Survivors include a niece.

Services:Graveside, 11 a.m. Monday, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Lincolnton. Memorial, 3 p.m. Monday, St. Enoch Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. John Mark Beam.

Visitation:Following the graveside services. At other times the family will be at the home of niece Beth Boger, 885 Briggs Road.

Pauline Davenport

ALBEMARLE — Pauline Shepherd Furr Davenport, 81, 1317 Sunset Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Britthaven of the Piedmont.

Born Nov. 4, 1918, in Moore County, Mrs. Davenport was a daughter of the late Mattie Elizabeth Copeland and Vick Dockery Shepherd. She was a former spinner at Wiscassett Mills.

Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by first husband Daniel Monroe Furr, second husband James Edward Davenport and sons Walter Ray Furr and Joseph Carroll Furr.

Survivors include sons Jim Shepherd and Darrell Furr, both of Albemarle, Marshall Monroe Furr, Charlotte, and Roger Daniel Furr, Mount Pleasant; daughter Maxine Sexton, Concord; brother William Ray Shepherd, Greensboro; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dolan Talbert. Burial, Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at 704 Salisbury Ave.

Sue Killian Dellinger

KANNAPOLIS —Sue Killian Dellinger, 85, 1907 Carolina Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center, Concord.

Rachel Weddington Hunter

CHINA GROVE — Rachel Weddington Hunter, 64, 850 Rock Lane, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 7, 1935, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Elma Yost and Marion Butler Weddington. A homemaker, she was a graduate of Landis High School. She was a member of Lutheran Chapel Church and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include husband Cecil Ray Hunter, whom she married March 10, 1956; sons Dale and Robert Hunter, both of China Grove; daughter Lisa H. Rogers, Faith; brothers Ray, Carl and Kenneth Weddington, all of China Grove, and Ralph Weddington, Charlotte; sisters Helen Suther and Mary Frances Hough, both of China Grove; and seven grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Monday, Lutheran Chapel Church, conducted by the Rev. William Haskell. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Eddy Vincent Husers

Eddie Vincent Husers, 56, Salisbury, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 6, 1944, in Crowley, La., Mr. Husers was the son of Lois Perry Miller, Franklin, La., and the late Herbert Husers. A graduate of Boyden (Salisbury) High School, he had retired from Norandal. He was a member of Carmel Baptist Church and its Adult Sunday School Class.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Janie “Jane” Myers Husers, whom he married June 17, 1963; son Eddie V. Husers Jr., Salisbury; daughters Christine Tedder, Salisbury, and Angie Rene Husers, of the home; brothers Frances, Glenn and Oliver Husers, all of Louisiana, and Leroy, Dean and Jerry Husers, all of Texas; sister Delores Husers, Wisconsin; and two grandchildren, including grandson Jeffrey Galloway, of the home.

Services:10 a.m. Tuesday, Carmel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roby Linebarger, pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation:7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Morrow Ketchie

MOORESVILLE —Elizabeth Morrow Ketchie, 93, Statesville Highway, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at her home.

Born Feb. 7, 1907, in Rowan County, Mrs. Ketchie was the daughter of the late George and Carrie McLean Morrow. A homemaker, she also assisted her husband in farming. A graduate of Mount Ulla High School, she was a member of Triplett United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Gordon Ketchie, died in 1978.

Survivors include son Joe R. Ketchie, Mooresville; brother William Neil Morrow, Troutman; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Monday, Triplett United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Judy White and the Rev. Tony Matthews. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Judah Nathaniel Mills

Judah Nathaniel Mills died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, shortly after birth.

Born Sept. 1, 2000, he was a son of Faith Caroline Lanning and Roland Ray Mills Jr. of Shelby, formerly of Salisbury.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brothers Samuel, Daniel, Micah and Simeon Mills, all of the home; sisters Joy and Charity Mills, of the home; paternal grandparents Roland Ray and Cazzie Hillard Mills, Salisbury; and maternal grandparents Tommy and Betty Tesh Lanning, Yadkin.

Services:Graveside, 4 p.m. Monday, Yadkin Baptist Church cemetery, Yadkin, conducted by the Rev. Terry Cruse, pastor, New Hope Baptist Church, Salisbury. A memorial service will follow in the church.

Irma Barker Peeler

KANNAPOLIS — Irma Barker Peeler, formerly of 1101 S. Ridge Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, after six months of serious illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1910, in Rowan County, Mrs. Peeler was a daughter of the late Daisy Foy and Thomas Tyler Barker. A graduate of Spencer High School and Salisbury Business College, Mrs. Peeler was owner and operator of the Pig ’N Pit Cafe from 1946 to 1960. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

Survivors include husband Shuford H. Peeler; daughters Jane Peeler Long, Concord, and Barbara Peeler Ridenhour, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services:3:30 p.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
