Robert Rand Barbour, 58, Hefner
VAMedical Center, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 2000)at the Medical
Center.

Carl Van Buren Borders
Carl Van Buren Borders, 85,
Salisbury, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 2000)at his home after four
months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Winterville,
Ga., Mr. Borders was a son of the late Claude Van Buren and Sarah
Ann Borders. He was educated in the Winterville, Ga., schools and
had retired from Cone Mills.
His wife, Lois Bostian Borders, died
Aug. 6, 1997.
Survivors include daughters Dorothy
Page, Richfield, and Martha Ann Walton, Gold Hill; stepson Donald
Ray Bostian, Salisbury; stepdaughters Patricia Hall, Salisbury, and
Jean Hamrick, Rockwell; 21 grandchildren; and 33
great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Lyerly
Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. BarryKemp and the Rev.
Terry Cruse. The body will be cremated after the service.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the
funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Patrice Renee Harrold
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be
Sunday for Patrice Renee Harrold, 22, 601 Evelyn Ave., who died
Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000).
Born Jan. 15, 1978, at New Hanover
County, Miss Harrold was a daughter of Robert William Harrold, St.
Albans, W.Va., and Patricia Lynn Thomas, Kannapolis. One of the
youngest vocalists to sing before the Charlotte Hornets, she also
played the saxophone and piano. She was a member of the band at
Metro Worship Center.
A graduate of Truth Temple Christian
School, she was a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Employed part time at Big Elm
Retirement Center as a certified nurses assistant, she recently won
the Millennium Miss Elegant Miss Pageant in Sanford.
Survivors, in addition to her
parents, include half sister Ashley Harrold,St. Albans, W.Va.; and
paternal grandparents William and Viola Harrold, St. Albans, W.Va.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s
Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Sheets and the Rev.
Sam Crisp. Music by her boyfriend Peter Nemeth with Betsy Christy
and Toni Synret. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

funeral home.
‘Margie’ Johnson
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Marguerite
“Margie” Johnson, Jersey City, a former Rowan County, N.C.,
resident, died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000).
She was a daughter of the late
Vanstory Fox and Edna Johnson.
Survivors include six grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Watson
Mortuary Service. Burial, Rosehill Cemetery, Linden.
Visitation: 9 a.m. Saturday at the
funeral home.
William ‘Flipper’ Knox
HARMONY — The funeral was Thursday
for William Keith “Flipper” Knox, 42, 146 Buckhead Road, who
died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000)from injuries sustained in a motorcycle
accident.
Born July 30, 1958, in Rowan County,
Mr.Knox was a son of Corabelle Davidson Knox and the late William
LeAnder Knox. He attended the Rowan County schools and was a
graduate of South Iredell High School, Troutman. He attended Mount
Tabor Presbyterian Church at an early age.
Survivors, in addition to his mother,
include daughters Lakeitha “Keitha” and Lakeita “Toya” Knox,
both of the home, Candice “Peaches” Roseboro, Statesville,
Shonika Eckles, Harmony, Private Marcie Roseboro and Meketa White,
both of Statesville, and Amber Heath, Gastonia; brother Melvin
Smith, Mooresville; sisters Betty Robinson, Charlotte, and Pamela
Jones and Sandra Knox, both of Salisbury; paternal grandmother Mary
Jane Knox, Cleveland; maternal grandmother Haldren Davidson,
Statesville; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m.
Thursday at Mount Nebo Baptist Church. The Rev. Norman Dudley
officiated. The body was placed in the church at 2. Burial, Belmont
Cemetery.
The family is at the home on Buckhead
Road.

Elon Pinze Little
NEW LONDON — Elon Pinze Little, 65,
43378 Snider Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000)at his home.
Born Sept. 8, 1935, in Stanly County,
Mr. Little, a son of the late Clifford and Kester Little, was a
truck driver with Terminal Trucking. He was a member of Oak Grove
United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant, and served in the U.S. Army
Reserves.
Survivors include wife Jewell Little;
sons Clinton Little, Davidson, Everett Little, Aquadale, and Wayne
Little, Mount Pleasant; daughter Tanya Little, North Myrtle Beach,
S.C.; sister Verla Kinney, Kannapolis; brother Kyle Little,
Huntersville; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oak Grove
United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrill.
Burial, church cemetery.

Mary Heilig Ratliff
Mary Virginia Heilig Ratliff,
formerly of Davidson and now of Lakeland, Florida, died Wednesday
(Oct. 25) in Duke University Hospital, Durham.
Born in 1924, she was the daughter of
the late Jessie Montgomery and Herman Heilig, Salisbury. She
graduated from Greensboro College and taught school in East Spencer,
Hickory, and Davidson.
She served for four years in the
1960s as a United Methodist educational missionary in Lahore,
Pakistan. For her many contributions as a volunteer in the Davidson
community she received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from
Davidson College.
She was active in the Davidson United
Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving in various leadership
positions and as Treasurer. Since moving to Lakeland last year, she
has been active in various activities in Florida Presbyterian Homes,
Lakeland Habitat for Humanity and College Heights United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include her husband of 55
years, Charles E. Ratliff Jr.; three children and the children’s
families.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday,
Davidson United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Howell
and the Rev. Thomas Moon. Another service will be held at a later
date at College Heights United Methodist Church, Lakeland.
Arthur ‘Frank’ Rufty
Arthur Franklin “Frank” Rufty,
80, 1214 Arbor Drive, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 2000)at Rowan
RegionalMedical Center.
Born April 29, 1920, in Salisbury,
Mr. Rufty, a son of the late William Arthur and Eva Elizabeth Rice
Rufty, was a 1938 graduate of Boyden High School and a veteran of
the U.S. Army.
He worked for Southern Railroad for
41 years. A member of Salem Lutheran Church, he was a former member
of the church council. He was also a member of Andrew Jackson
Masonic Lodge 576.
Survivors include wife Frances
McNeely Rufty; son Ken W. Rufty, Lake Norman; daughter Betty Rufty
Seymour, Gastonia; sisters Frances Rufty Barnhardt, Mary Rufty
Morgan, Viola Rufty Myers and Annie Rufty Glasgow, all of Salisbury;
and five grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Salem
Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Sifford, and the
Rev. Dr. Jody Seymour of First United Methodist Church, Gastonia.
