Funeral for victim of USS Cole on Saturday

 SALISBURY POST

The funeral service for Lakeina Monique Francis, killed aboard the USS Cole, is planned Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cleveland.

The 19-year-old’s body will remain in the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m., when a tribute service begins. The church is located at 200 Clearview Road.

The Rev. Presley Stutts will officiate, and a burial ceremony with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. in Salisbury National Cemetery. The exact location — Salisbury actually has two cemeteries dedicated to veterans — has not been decided.

The funeral is open to the public.

A reception will be held at the Salisbury Civic Center at 3 p.m., said the Rev. Bill Hallman, who schedules events for the center.

In the event that the body has not arrived in time from Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Del, arrangements will be changed to next Saturday.

Cards to the family may be sent to: 5430 Foster Road, Woodleaf, N.C. 27054.
