Carl VanBuren Borders

Carl VanBuren Borders, 85, Salisbury, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 2000)at his home.

Carrie Trexler Bumgarner

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Friday for Carrie Trexler Bumgarner, 1825 Cannon St. Ext., who died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000)at her home.

Born April 24, 1926, in Guilford County, Mrs. Bumgarner was a daughter of the late Earl Banks and Celia Louise Dunnings Trexler. She was a graduate of Rockwell High School.

She retired from Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, after 36 years of service. A member of Rockwell Church of God, she was a lifelong member of Luther’s Lutheran Church, Richfield.

A son, Michael Eugene Kirk, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband Joseph Wesley Bumgarner; sons Charles Stephen Kirk, Richfield, and Randall Lynn Bumgarner, Kannapolis; brothers James Lee and Eddie Trexler, both of Gold Hill, and Larry Trexler, Missouri; sisters Lou Leonard, Gold Hill, and Margie Safrit and Ann Trexler, both of Rockwell; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Alfred Rhyne, pastor, Luther’s LutheranChurch.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on Cannon Street Ext.

Fred Drury

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Fred Whittier Drury, 92, 802 Dial St., who died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2000) at his home after three years of declining health and two months of serious illness.

Born Dec. 2, 1907, in Morganton, Mr. Drury was a son of the late Frank and Alice Drury. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired from Wells-Fargo and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Landis.

Survivors include wife Rose Wood Drury; stepdaughter Sybil Evans, Dallas, Texas; brother Edwin Drury, Thomasville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Andrea Redard. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Dial Street.

Carole Wood Dunn

SYLVANIA, Ga. — Carole Wood Dunn, 66, Sylvania, died Friday (Oct. 20, 2000)at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon.

Born in Massachusetts, Mrs. Dunn resided in Screven County for several years. She was a nurse’s aide and ward clerk at Jenkins County Hospital and a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Dowd M. Dunn; daughters Cheryl Ann Garrett, High Point, N.C., and Katherine L. Dunn, Salisbury, N.C.; sons Steven J. and Mark D. Dunn and Dowd M. Dunn Jr., all of Salisbury, N.C.; sisters Audrey Givens, Pachico, Calif., Michelle Doerrler, Mohegan Lake, N.Y., and Claudia Driscoll, Concord, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Lakeina Monique Francis

A memorial service will be held Saturday for Navy Seaman E-3 Lakeina Monique Francis.

Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cleveland, conducted by Chaplain Presley Stutts. Burial with military honors, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Patrice Renee Harrold

KANNAPOLIS — Patrice Renee Harrold, 22, 601 Evelyn Ave., died Wednesday (Oct.25, 2000).

Joyce Dean Hooper

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for Joyce Dean Hooper, 58, 803 E. 13th St., who died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four years of declining health.

Born Dec. 11, 1941 in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Hooper was a daughter of Mildred Aycoth Mobley, of the home. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Alfred Hicks Hooper, preceded her in death.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include son David Wayne Hooper, Kannapolis; daughter Mildred Diane Linker, of the home; brothers JimmyL. Johnson, Landis, and Larry E. Johnson, Kannapolis; sister Debbie Paxton, Concord; and three grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 3 today, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: None.

Bruce ‘Tatter’ Miller

MOORESVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Bruce “Tatter” Miller, 62, 8840 Unity Church Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000) at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.

Born Sept. 11, 1938, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late John Hedrick and Lilian Atwell Miller. He was educated in the Rowan County schools. A maintenance worker for Daniels Construction Co., he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Betty Brown Miller; stepsons John Franklin Upright Jr., Landis, and Donald Ray Upright, China Grove; daughter Tamera Carol Lewis, Myrtle Beach,S.C.; stepdaughter Wanda Kay Crisco, Landis; brothers James Miller, Mooresville, and John Hedrick Miller Jr. and David Ray Miller, both of Kannapolis; sisters Betty McDaniel and Lois Jones, both of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday,Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Barry Kemp. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

John W. Musselwhite Jr.

ASHEBORO — John Wesley Musselwhite Jr., 74, 2518 Old Humble Road, Lot 95, died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000) at Randolph Hospital Inc.

A native of Cumberland County, Mr. Musselwhite retired from Burlington Industries, Ramseur. He attended Mountain of Faith Christian Church. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

His first wife, Vivian Ruth Musselwhite, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Sara Frances Musselwhite; sons Jimmie Edgar Musselwhite, Salisbury, and Kennie Ray Musselwhite, Pleasant Garden; stepdaughters Debbie Allred, Asheboro, and Carol Reynolds, Kings Bay, Ga.; stepsons Happy McCracken, Mullins, S.C., Mitchell McCracken, Summerville, S.C., and David McCracken,Charleston, S.C.; stepmother Irene Musselwhite, China Grove; sisters Freda Jean Hendrix, Gilbert, S.C., Mittie Katherine Fowler, Houston, Texas, and Shirley Ann Musselwhite, China Grove; brothers Smitty Gene Musselwhite, Fayetteville, and Harvey Lee Musselwhite, Salisbury; three grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Sara Tuck Sherrill

SANFORD — The funeral will be Friday for Sara Tuck Sherrill, 82, Sanford, who died Monday (Oct. 23, 2000)at Central Carolina Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Charles Yokley of Landis, and a granddaughter.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Friday, Calvary Baptist Church, Sanford.

Maggie Wyatt

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Maggie Dancy Wyatt, 86, 2500 S. Ridge Ave., who died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord. She had been in declining health for six years and seriously ill for a week.

Born Aug. 20, 1914, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Wyatt was a daughter of the late Floyd Lee and Martha Sheets Dancy. She retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of Kannapolis West A Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philmore Wyatt, and a son, Bobby Ray Wyatt.

Survivors include daughters Dollie Marie “Ruby” Powers, Sanford, and Eula Mae Wyatt, of the home; son Jerry Wayne Wyatt, Concord; 10 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp and the Rev. James A. Masters. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on South Ridge Avenue.
