Ty T. Annas

WOODLEAF — Ty T. Annas, 75, Woodleaf, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000)at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1924, in Catawba County, Mr. Annas, a son of the late O.F. and Zula Land Annas, was educated in Catawba County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He retired in 1990 from Fluor Daniel Construction Co. A member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cleveland, he was a trustee and a deacon.

His wife, Doris Killian Annas, died July 17, 1992.

Survivors include son Mike Annas, Franklin, Ga.; daughter Patricia A. Link, Woodleaf; sisters Thelma Annas and Fuschia A. Hamby, both of Hickory; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cleveland, conducted by the Rev. Mack Jarvis. Burial, Cleveland First Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury. At other times the family will be at the home in Woodleaf.

Beulah Lyerly Cornelison

Beulah Lyerly Cornelison, 89, Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born April 5, 1911, in Rowan County, Mrs. Cornelison, a daughter of the late Arthur Amadus and Angie Bostian Lyerly, was educated at Yost School in Rowan County. She retired as a weaver from Cannon Mills.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Sunday School Class No. 1. She was also a member of the North Carolina Extension and Community Association.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Propst, and her second husband, James E. Cornelison.

Survivors include stepsons John and James Cornelison, both of Salisbury; sister Lottie Honbarger, Salisbury; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by Dr. Marcus B. Hovis III, associate pastor. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-7:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Elva Smith Cornette

Elva Mae Smith Cornette, Effingham, Ill., formerly of Rowan County, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Lakeland Nursing Home, Effingham, Ill.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Inez Henley DeLapp

LEXINGTON — Inez Henley DeLapp, 90, East Fifth Avenue, died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000)at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 1, 1910, in Randolph County, Mrs. DeLapp, a daughter of the late C.H. and Ida Earnhardt Henley, resided in Davidson County for most of her life. She retired from First Union Bank.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Group 10 of the church. An honorary member of the administrative board, she was a former youth and Sunday school teacher, former president of the Church Guild and a former member of the Altar Guild. She was awarded a life membership in the United Methodist Women.

She was a former treasurer of the Girl Scout Council and a former treasurer of Davidson County Historical Association. A charter member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, she was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mrs. DeLapp was trustee emeritus of the Davidson County Historical Museum in recognition of her leadership from 1976-1995.

Her husband, John S. DeLapp, preceded her in death.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First United Methodist Church,Lexington, conducted by the Rev. John Ferree, the Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown and Amy Clodfelter. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on East Fifth Avenue.

Memorials: First United Methodist Church, Pastor’s Discretionary Fund or Church Scholarship Fund, 310 S. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292; or donor’s choice.

 

Russ Gaulke

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Russ Gaulke, 48, Sevierville, a former Salisbury, N.C., resident, died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000).

Mr. Gaulke, the son of Ruben “Doc” Gaulke and the late Eva Gaulke, received his degree in architectural structural drafting from Oregon Institute of Technology. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he received a Purple Heart.

He was an architect chief draftsman with P.C. Dynamics. He and his family owned and operated English Mountain Trout Farm and Grill since April 1999.

A son, Shane Michael Gaulke, preceded him in death.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Suzette Harris Boutilier; son Brett Morgan Gaulke; and daughter Alexandra Noelle Boutilier.

Services: 6 p.m. Tuesday, West Chapel, Atchley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gary Gray.

Visitation: At the funeral home after Tuesday’s service.

 

Tony Mahmood Ali Kahn

ROCKWELL — Tony Mahmood Ali Khan, 77, 123 Central St., died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Dec. 19, 1923, in India, Mr. Khan, a son of Abdul Jabbar and Tag Begum Khan, attended Cambridge and Oxford universities in England. He spoke seven languages.

The editor of AERO News, his last project in aviation was the Concord Jet. He was a Muslim.

Survivors include wife Irene Howarth Kahn; sons Summy Khan, Rockwell, Dean Khan, Salisbury, Jeffery Khan, Concord, and Allen Khan, Statesville; daughter Sophia Cranford, New London; and four grandchildren.

A traditional Muslin funeral and burial were held Saturday evening at the Kahn family cemetery, New London.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, was in charge.

 

Rameshbhai N. Patel

Rameshbhai Natubhai Patel, 57, Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000)at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, from heart failure.

Born Sept. 4, 1943, in India, Mr. Patel was a son of Gulabben Patel, India, and the late Natubhai Patel.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Padmaben R. Patel; son Rakesh Patel, Salisbury; daughter Dharma Patel, Russelville, Ark.; brother Arvindbhai Patel, Jersey City, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: 6-7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Lester Sylvester Roberson

Lester Sylvester Roberson, 79, 415 Long Ferry Road, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital after five days of serious illness.

Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Salisbury, Mr. Roberson, a son of the late Harvey H. and Willie Mae Dunlap Roberson, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired, he had been employed by Southern Railway and Five Row Construction Co., Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member and trustee of New Hope AMEZion Church.

Survivors include wife Mary Ruth Houston Roberson; sons Lester S. Roberson Jr., Salisbury, Ronald K. Roberson, Granite Quarry, Donald Roberson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Darnell Roberson, of the home; daughters Sylvia L. Warren,East Spencer, Elaine Roberts, of the home, Margaret Anderson, Detroit, Mich., and Rosemary Newman, Chicago, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Annie Mae Robertson, 84, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Norma Jean Scott

CLEVELAND — Norma Jean Scott, 62, Cleveland, died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, from cancer.

Born Jan. 31, 1938, in Summit County, Ohio, Mrs. Scott, a daughter of the late William Harry and Mary Irene Crowe Nickison, was a graduate of Greensburg High School, Ohio.

She was a cashier at Community Grocery Store from 1986-1999 and a member of Cooleemee First Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Emerson Leon Scott; sons Martin Lee Scott, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Brian Leon Scott, Cleveland; daughter Cheryl A. Brumit, Tallmadge, Ohio; brothers Carl Leonard Nickison, Azle, Texas, and William Harry Nickison, San Francisco, Calif.; sister Ethel Seifried, Greensburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Greensburg, Ohio.

CHINA GROVE — Margaret Shell, 87, formerly of 665 Brown Road, died Monday (Oct. 23, 2000)at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Nellie Walker, 73, Salisbury, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
