Charles ‘Bud’ Canupp
KANNAPOLIS -— The funeral will be Sunday for
Charles W. “Bud” Canupp, 79, 401 S. Rose Ave., who died Tuesday (Oct. 17,
2000) at his home after three months of declining health.
Born Sept. 29, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Canupp,
a son of the late Charles Franklin and Mable Cordella Plyler Canupp, served in
the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Cornerstone Pentecostal
Church, Salisbury.
Retired in 1984, he worked for Cannon Mills Co.
Plant 4 weave room for 45 years. He was also a part-time mechanic for many
years.
His wife, Opal Billings Canupp, died Feb. 12,
1999.
Survivors include son Jerry Canupp, San Antonio,
Texas; daughter Linda Cook, Kannapolis; brother Edgar Calvin Canupp, Kannapolis;
sister Rebecca Gainey, Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Cornerstone Pentecostal
Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Bill Godair. The body will be placed in
the church at 1:30. Burial, Kannapolis Cemetery. Military rites by DAV Chapter
27.

Larry Paul Cline
A memorial service will be held at a later date
for Larry Paul Cline, 47, 41560 Terwilliger Road No. 1, Anza, Calif., who died
Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000)at his home. He had been in declining health for five
months and seriously ill for a week.
Born Jan. 15, 1953, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Cline
was a son of Margaret Harrington Cline, Kannapolis, and the late R.F. Cline. He
attended Northwest Cabarrus High School. He made his home in California since
the early 1970s.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include
wife Sandy Cline; daughters Kimber Jane Cline, of the home, and Katie Marie
Pakye, Hemet, Calif.; brother Tony R. Cline, Lafayette,La.; sisters Phyllis
Marie Drye, Richfield, and Connie Jane Cline, Huntersville; and stepfather Lee
Cline, Kannapolis.

Fannie Goodman Morgan
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for
Fannie Jeanette Goodman Morgan, 79, 4960 Highway 152 E., who died Thursday (Oct.
19, 2000) at her home.
Born July 30, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Morgan was a daughter of the late John Alvin and Bunnie Rice Goodman. She was
the last living charter member of Earle Street Church of God, Kannapolis. She
retired in 1983 after 40 years from Cannon Mills Plant 1, spinning and weaving
rooms.
Survivors include son Ronnie A. Morgan, of the
home; brother Charlie R. Goodman, Kannapolis; and twin sister Addie Geneva
Sherrill, Kannapolis.

Aubra M. Fisher
KANNAPOLIS — Aubra Mitchell Fisher, 68, 2304
Englewood St., died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000)at Duke Medical Center, Durham.
Born April 1, 1932, in Alexander County, Mrs.
Fisher was a daughter of the late Raymond D. and Nell Chapman Mitchell. She was
employed at the Children’s Center, Kannapolis, for many years and had worked
for Belk at the Budget Fair, Concord, before her retirement several years ago.
A member of the last graduating class of J.W.
Cannon High School, she was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord.
Her husband, Bobby Moore Fisher, died May 14,
1994.
Survivors include daughters Cheryl Williams,
Kannapolis, and Sandy Malone, Bainbridge, Ga.; sister Ravenelle Bost,
Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Dottie M. McConneaughey
The funeral will be Sunday for Dottie Murdock
McConneaughey, 41, formerly of North Cedar Street, who died Tuesday (Oct. 17,
2000)at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation after a year of serious illness.
Born Dec. 14, 1958, Mrs. McConneaughey was a
daughter of the late Booker T. and Juanita Jackson Murdock. She was a graduate
of West Rowan High School and was last employed at Fieldcrest Cannon.
Survivors include son Donald McConneaughey Jr.,
Salisbury; brothers Nelson, Norman and Gary Murdock, all of Salisbury; sisters
Betty Davis, Cleveland, Annette Cline, Salisbury, and Marie Maxwell, Opelousas,
La.; and one grandchild.

Alfred Thomas Morgan
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for
Alfred Thomas Morgan, 75, 1215 Guinn Ave., who died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a week of serious illness.
Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Morgan was a son of the late John Levi and Mary Gaskey Morgan. He retired in
1989 from Cannon Mills Plant 1 bleachery department after 16 years. A veteran,
he retired from the U.S. Army in 1973 after 20 years of service. He had served
in the European Theatre of Operations of World War II and in the Vietnam War.
He was a member of DAV Commanders Club and North
Kannapolis Baptist Church.
His wife, Elaine Black Morgan, died Feb. 10,
1995.
Survivors include brothers Roy Morgan, Landis,
and Carl Morgan, Salisbury; and sisters Mable Anderson, Viola Utley and Della
Driver, all of Kannapolis.

Annie Oakley
The funeral will be Saturday for Annie Lydia
Luvenia Oakley, 62, 731 Wilson Road, who died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at her
home.
Born June 16, 1938, Mrs. Oakley was a daughter of
Rosa Oakley Cureton, of the home, and the late William Darnell Booker. She was a
graduate of J.C. Price High School and Livingstone College and did further
studies at North Carolina A &T State University.
An elementary school teacher, she taught in
Maryland and Yanceyville. She retired from the Rowan Salisbury School System.
She was a member of Third Creek AME Church,
Cleveland, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include
daughter Shenise Oakley, Raleigh; brother Buford Anderson Oakley, Morganton; and
sister Judy Oakley Tinsley, Salisbury.

Thomas M. Ramsey
STATESVILLE — Thomas M. Ramsey, Statesville,
died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at Gilchrist Medical Center, Baltimore, Md.
Born Dec. 10, 1940, in Salisbury, Mr. Ramsey was
a son of the late William H.L. and Ollie Fisher Ramsey. He was reared in
Cleveland and joined Knox Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland, at an early age.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, he
graduated from R.A. Clement High School, Cleveland. He received a bachelor of
science degree in social welfare from Livingstone College, where he was inducted
into the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
He moved to Baltimore, Md., and was a member of
Morning Star Baptist Church, Catonsville, Md. He was a member of the deacon
ministry and later was chairperson of the ministry.
At one time, Mr. Ramsey was employed by Grinnell
Fire Protection Co., but he recently retired from Baltimore County Bureau of
Corrections.
Survivors include wife of 38 years Roberta M.
Ramsey, whom he married April 19, 1961; children Quintin LeMonte Ramsey, Steven
Douglas Ramsey and Rubetta T. Towles; sisters Mary F. Howard, Cleveland, and
Margaret McClelland, Statesville; brothers Barney Ramsey, Huntersville, Charles
E. Ramsey,Salisbury, and James T. Ramsey, Statesville; and 10 grandchildren.

Ray Leroy Sides, 88, 2645 Daugherty Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000)at
NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1912, in Stanly County, Mr. Sides,
a son of the late Ralph B. and Anna Whitley Sides, was educated in Stanly County
schools and Standard Textile School. He retired from Cannon Mills and was a
member of First Baptist Church. During World War II, he was a gunner on a B-17.
Survivors include wife Bertie Beaver Sides; son
Bobby Sides, China Grove; daughter Hilda Sides Messer, Kannapolis; sister Evelyn
Honeycutt, China Grove; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Stephen J. Witkowski
SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for
Stephen John Witkowski, 78, Spencer, who died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at his
home. He had been in declining health for five years and seriously ill for two
weeks.
Born Oct. 18, 1922, in Erie, Pa., Mr. Witkowski,
a son of the late Joseph and Anastasia Kawalchuk Witkowski, was a graduate of
East High School, Erie, Pa. He also was a graduate of the National School of
Meat Cutting, Toledo, Ohio, and attended Catawba College, Salisbury.
A veteran, he served in Europe with the U.S. Army
during World War II. He was with Battery B, 317th Antiaircraft Balloon
Battalion.
He was employed with Pennsylvania Railroad prior
to moving to Salisbury in 1952. He owned and operated Steve’s Barbecue until
1972.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Salisbury, for 46 years. He was also a member of Harold B. Jarrett American
Legion Post 342 and Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006. A member of Spencer Moose
Lodge 2019, he earned the degree of Fellowship of The Legion of Moose and was in
the 25 Year Club.
Survivors include wife Frances Greene Witkowski,
whom he married June 4, 1949; son Timothy Witkowski, Spencer; daughters Gloria
W. Johnson, Rockwell, and Margaret W. Iddings, Salisbury; brothers Walter R. and
Joseph J. Witkowski, both of Erie, Pa.; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
