Lindsay A. Bullaboy

LEXINGTON — Lindsay Allen Bullaboy, 84, Mitchell Avenue, Salisbury, formerly of South Cecil Street, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at the Salisbury home of son Danny Michael Bullaboy.

Born Jan. 29, 1916, in Davidson County, Mr. Bullaboy was a son of the late Albert Lee and Minnie Cameron Bullaboy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the National Guard after 30 years of service.

He was retired from Dixie Furniture and attended Coggins Memorial Baptist Church.

His wife, Trula Treadway Bullaboy, died Sept. 23, 1998.

Survivors include another son, Dr. Charles Bullaboy, Suffolk, Va.; sister Maude Freeman, Lexington; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lowell Askins. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gary Lane Coley

ALBEMARLE — Gary Lane Coley, 55, 32239 Chapel Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1945, in Stanly County, Mr. Coley was a son of the late Nezzie Burris and Dexter W. Coley. He was a member of the first graduating class from South Stanly High School in 1963 and was self-employed as a barber at Modern Barber Shop.

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Norwood, where he served as a trustee and deacon and was a former Sunday school superintendent and teacher.

Survivors include wife Sandra Tucker Coley; son Bryan Lane Coley, Albemarle; daughter Angela R. Coley, of the home; brothers James Ikey, Avery Gene and Dexter Dulin Coley, all of Albemarle; sisters Edyce Hartsell, Gladys Smith and Margie Efird, all of Norwood, Evelyn Stein, Kannapolis, and Linda Parker, Albemarle; and one grandson.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Lowell Brown and the Rev. Lonnie Gibson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home.

 

Aubra Fisher

KANNAPOLIS — Aubra Fisher, 68, 2304 Englewood St., died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at Duke Medical Center, Durham.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Robert Holt Gaines

Robert Holt Gaines, 57, Hefner VA Medical Center, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 12, 1943, in Fort Bragg, Mr. Gaines was a son of Glennie Holt Gaines, Spencer, and the late Capt. Samuel Gaines.

He graduated from Fayetteville High School and East Carolina University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a salesman for Westinghouse Co. out of Charlotte.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by brothers Samuel Gaines, Fayetteville, Warren T. Gaines, New Orleans, La., and Douglas T. Gaines, Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, graveside, U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard, conducted by a VA chaplain.

Visitation: None. The body will remain at Summersett Funeral Home until the service.

 

Willene Harris Lowery

KANNAPOLIS — Willene Harris Lowery, 71, 2912 N. Main St., died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She had been seriously ill three weeks.

Born Sept. 18, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Lowery was a daughter of the late Maude Alexander and Urell Harris. She graduated from Aggrey High School and was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon.

She was a member of Sandy Ridge AMEZion Church, the Life Members Council, Stewardess Board No. 2, Parent Body Missionary and the Sunday school.

Her husband, Robert Lowery, died in March 1987.

Survivors include sons Urell Lowery, Charlotte, and the Rev. Ivan Lowery, Dayton, Ohio; daughter Golanda L. Spencer, Landis; brother John L. Harris, Landis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sandy Ridge AMEZion Church, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Smith. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Friday at the church. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Golanda Spencer, 718 W. Rice St., Landis.

Noble &Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Bonita Mae Markel Moore

ALBEMARLE — Bonita Mae Markel Moore, 62, 2306 Sandy Lane, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at her home.

Born Sept. 11, 1938, in Smith County, Kan., Mrs. Moore was a daughter of Thelma Mae Kelly Markel, Cresent City, Calif., and the late Wayne Hobbs Markel. She served in the WACs in the U.S. Army and was retired as a circuit breaker builder for American Circuit Breaker.

She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Bennie Linwood Moore, preceded her in death.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughters Debra M. Griffin, Marshville, and Karen M. Brown, Albemarle; brothers Jack Markel, Don Markel and Wayne Markel Jr., all of Cresent City, Calif., and Leon Markel, Glendale, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jeffery A. Sweeney.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, N.C. 28001.

 

Nora Lee Phillips

Nora Lee Phillips, 49, 932 N. Wayne St., Milledgeville, Ga., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville, Ga., following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 16, 1950, in Cabarrus County, Ms. Phillips was a daughter of Kathleen Heiligh Propst of Salisbury, and the late Sloan Phillips. She attended McKinley Tech in Washington, D.C.

She was employed at Chaplinwood Nursing Home in Milledgeville, Ga., and had formerly worked at Lyon Shaw in Salisbury. She was a former member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, Woodleaf.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by son Ira Graham Jr., Salisbury; daughters Theresa Turner, Iris Graham, Denise Graham and Wakise Graham, all of Durham, ; companion Raphael Ortega, Milledgeville, Ga.; brothers Richard B. Phillips, Randolph Phillips, Charlie Spencer and Thomas Spencer, all of Salisbury, and James Massey, Kannapolis; sisters Mary Ann Phillips, Spartanburg, S.C., Stella P. Hurd, Salisbury, and Louise P. Adams, Garner; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Noble &Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Benny Sloan and Bishop Wayne Brown. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of niece Lapronda Phillips, 606 E. Franklin St.

CHINA GROVE — Ray L. Sides, 88, 2645 Daughtery Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Stephen John Witkowski

SPENCER — Stephen John Witkowski, 78, Spencer, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at his home.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.
