Charles Leonard Bankett

The funeral will be Thursday for Charles Leonard Bankett, 63, Salisbury, who died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Born April 1, 1937, in Salisbury, Mr. Bankett, a son of the late Fred Wade and Blanche Leonard Bankett, was educated in the Salisbury schools.

He was a lifelong member of Union Lutheran Church and a charter member of Rowan Ramblers blind group. He won several trophies in Putt-Putt golf tournaments sponsored by the Lion’s Clubs of Rowan County for blind individuals.

Survivors include brother Ronald W. Bankett, Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Norris, pastor, Union Lutheran Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of his brother, 1010 Mainsail Road.

Helen Frye Beaver

CHINA GROVE — Helen Frye Beaver, 76, 1201 N. Miller St., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at her home.

Born July 19, 1924, in Mooresville, Mrs. Beaver was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Lockie Ann Coggins Frye. She was educated in the Iredell and Mecklenburg county schools and retired from China Grove Cotton Mill.

A member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, she was in the Ada Fleming Sunday school class.

Her husband, Jacob Benjamin Beaver Jr., died June 27, 1991.

Survivors include son Gary Michael Beaver, China Grove; daughters Terri Beaver Freeze, Laurens, S.C., and Brenda Beaver Mann, Harrisburg; sister Amy Frye Gardner, Mooresville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Mount Zion United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on North Miller Street.

Charles ‘Bud’ Canupp

KANNAPOLIS — Charles W. “Bud” Canupp, 79, 401 S. Rose Ave., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at his home after three months of declining health.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mary Louise Clowney

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Louise “Sister” Clowney, 62, 241 James St., died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000)at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.

Born Aug. 28, 1938, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Clowney was a daughter of the late Robert and Mable Cauthen Eddleman. She retired from the Cabarrus County School System.

Survivors include daughters Karen C. Lynch and Ventura P. Brown, both of Kannapolis, and Cynthia Perry, Manhattan, N.Y.; sons Theodore Perry Jr. and Johnny Perry, both of Kannapolis; sister Mary McCall, Mooresville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Marable Memorial AMEZion Church, conducted by the Rev. Grant Harrison. Burial, Rutherford Park, Concord.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Bryant-Lytle-Young Funeral Home.

 

Guy Franklin Haynes

CONCORD — Guy Franklin Haynes, 65, 408 Fisher St., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born April 2, 1935, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Haynes was a son of the late Lee Ross Haynes and Gracie Beaver Haynes Casper.

He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, where he had been a trustee, Sunday school teacher and an usher. He had also taught Sunday school at Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Owner of Guy’s Car Care Center, Mooresville, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include wife Shirley Pope Haynes; children Tony E. Haynes, Knoxville, Tenn., Ron E. Haynes, Windermere, Fla., Gigi H. Sholar, Marshville, and Tod A. Haynes, Concord; brother Bob Haynes, Charlotte; and six grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. William Rash. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on Fisher Street.

Ovid Thomas Hendrix

Ovid Thomas Hendrix, 87, Statesville, a former Rowan County resident, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Statesville, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Davie County, Mr. Hendrix, a son of the late Thomas Lewis and Sarah Elizabeth Foote Hendrix, was educated in the Davie County schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II retired as a chicken farmer and carpenter.

Survivors include daughters Kathy Smith, with whom he last made his home, Renaye Bailey, Nebo, Gail Rankin, Sarasota, Fla., and Elaine Lancaster, Freemont, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, VA Medical Center, Salisbury, conducted by a VA chaplain.

Visitation: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday,Lyerly Funeral Home.

 

Willene Harris Lowery

KANNAPOLIS — Willene Harris Lowery, 71, Main Street, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health and several days of serious illness.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Katherine ‘Kat’ Martin

MOORESVILLE — The funeral will be Thursday for Katherine “Kat” Hobbs Martin, 83, Parker Avenue, who died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000)at her home.

Born July 17, 1917, in Cornelius, Mrs. Martin was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Lucy Fleming Hobbs. She was employed by Chempsun Spinning Mills for 20 years.

A member of Southside Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Samuel Martin.

Survivors include sons Ronald “Ron,” Terry L. and Craig D. Martin, all of Mooresville; sisters Mildred Rice and Bernice Willis, both of Mooresville, and Helen Moran, Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Southside Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. D. Steven Gouge and the Rev. Hal D. Greene. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Dottie M. McConneaughey

Dottie Murdock McConneaughey, 41, Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000)at the nursing center after a period of declining health.

Ethel Johnson Moore

KANNAPOLIS — Ethel Johnson Moore, 80, 706 Pine St., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Nov. 14, 1919, in Ruby, S.C., Mrs. Moore was a daughter of the late Percy Lucas and Lessie Deese Johnson. She was a member of West Point Baptist Church for 46 years and formerly taught Sunday school in the primary department.

Her husband, Parnell Wilson Moore, died Dec. 12, 1980.

Survivors include son Byron Eugene “Gene” Moore, Kannapolis; daughter Terry M. Fisher, Kannapolis; sister Gladys Johnson, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, West Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Seagroves. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Pine Street.

Annie Lydia L. Oakley

Annie Lydia Luvenia Oakley, 62, 731 Wilson Road, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at her home.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Bryson Lee Propst

The funeral will be Thursday for Bryson Lee Propst, infant son of Lori Nicole Propst, Salisbury, who died at birth Saturday (Oct. 14, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include paternal grandparents Bryan and Darlene Jones, Salisbury; maternal grandparents Ray and Sherry Daniels, Salisbury; paternal great-grandparents James and Joy Burgess, Salisbury, and Gary and Juanita Guessford, Rockwell; maternal great-grandparents Fred and JoAnn Propst, Salisbury, and Carl Denham, Salisbury; paternal great-great-grandmother Beulah Thomason, Salisbury; and maternal great-great-grandmother Nanny Pepper, Salisbury.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Thursday, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: None.
