The funeral will be Thursday for Charles Leonard
Bankett, 63, Salisbury, who died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at Forsyth Memorial
Hospital, Winston-Salem.
Born April 1, 1937, in Salisbury, Mr. Bankett, a
son of the late Fred Wade and Blanche Leonard Bankett, was educated in the
Salisbury schools.
He was a lifelong member of Union Lutheran Church
and a charter member of Rowan Ramblers blind group. He won several trophies in
Putt-Putt golf tournaments sponsored by the Lion’s Clubs of Rowan County for
blind individuals.
Survivors include brother Ronald W. Bankett,
Salisbury.

Helen Frye Beaver
CHINA GROVE — Helen Frye Beaver, 76, 1201 N.
Miller St., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at her home.
Born July 19, 1924, in Mooresville, Mrs. Beaver
was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Lockie Ann Coggins Frye. She was
educated in the Iredell and Mecklenburg county schools and retired from China
Grove Cotton Mill.
A member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ,
she was in the Ada Fleming Sunday school class.
Her husband, Jacob Benjamin Beaver Jr., died June
27, 1991.
Survivors include son Gary Michael Beaver, China
Grove; daughters Terri Beaver Freeze, Laurens, S.C., and Brenda Beaver Mann,
Harrisburg; sister Amy Frye Gardner, Mooresville; five grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Louise “Sister” Clowney,
62, 241 James St., died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000)at Brian Center Health and
Rehabilitation, Salisbury.
Born Aug. 28, 1938, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Clowney was a daughter of the late Robert and Mable Cauthen Eddleman. She
retired from the Cabarrus County School System.

CONCORD — Guy Franklin Haynes, 65, 408 Fisher
St., died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born April 2, 1935, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Haynes was a son of the late Lee Ross Haynes and Gracie Beaver Haynes Casper.
He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church,
Kannapolis, where he had been a trustee, Sunday school teacher and an usher. He
had also taught Sunday school at Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Owner of Guy’s Car Care Center, Mooresville, he
was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include wife Shirley Pope Haynes;
children Tony E. Haynes, Knoxville, Tenn., Ron E. Haynes, Windermere, Fla., Gigi
H. Sholar, Marshville, and Tod A. Haynes, Concord; brother Bob Haynes,

Ovid Thomas Hendrix, 87, Statesville, a former
Rowan County resident, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at Brian Center Health and
Rehabilitation Center, Statesville, after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Davie County, Mr. Hendrix,
a son of the late Thomas Lewis and Sarah Elizabeth Foote Hendrix, was educated
in the Davie County schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
retired as a chicken farmer and carpenter.
Survivors include daughters Kathy Smith, with
whom he last made his home, Renaye Bailey, Nebo, Gail Rankin, Sarasota, Fla.,
and Elaine Lancaster, Freemont, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.

Katherine “Kat” Hobbs Martin, 83, Parker Avenue, who died Monday (Oct. 16,
2000)at her home.
Born July 17, 1917, in Cornelius, Mrs. Martin was
a daughter of the late James Monroe and Lucy Fleming Hobbs. She was employed by
Chempsun Spinning Mills for 20 years.
A member of Southside Baptist Church, she was a
Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard
Samuel Martin.

Born Nov. 14, 1919, in Ruby, S.C., Mrs. Moore was
a daughter of the late Percy Lucas and Lessie Deese Johnson. She was a member of
West Point Baptist Church for 46 years and formerly taught Sunday school in the
primary department.
Her husband, Parnell Wilson Moore, died Dec. 12,
1980.
