Lester E. Biggerstaff
KANNAPOLIS — Lester E. Biggerstaff, 76, 1307 Bailey St., died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord. He had been seriously ill three months.
Born Aug. 10, 1924, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Biggerstaff was a son of the late John and Ermon Smith Barnhardt Biggerstaff.
He was retired as a truck driver for Central Motor Lines and had worked at Whitley’s Funeral Home for 30 years.
He was a member of Allen Graham Masonic Lodge, Local 710 Teamster Union from 1948-81 and West Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Louise Meeks Biggerstaff; sons Randy Biggerstaff, Dillwyn, Va., Dennis Biggerstaff, Kannapolis, and Tim Biggerstaff, Concord; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, West Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Seagroves and the Rev. David Gales. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the 1307 Bailey St. home.

Fairie Carpenter Black
KANNAPOLIS — Fairie Belle Carpenter Black, 90, 402 Helen St., died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at Avante at Concord Nursing Center, Concord.
Born May 7, 1910, in Anson County, Mrs. Black was a daughtger of the late Murray Edmon and Margaret Bowers Carpenter. She was a homemaker and a Baptist and had lived in the area most of her life.
Her husband, Ray Edward Black, died Nov. 26, 1985.
Survivors include foster son Jerry Griffin, South Carolina; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, graveside, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Stan Welch.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.
Charles Raymond Bolden
Charles Raymond Bolden, 87, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000)at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.
Born June 16, 1913, in Buncombe County, Mr. Bolden was a son of the late Charles Baxter and Mary Brown Bolden. He was educated in the Salis-bury schools, Southeastern Commercial College and Funeral Ser-vice School of Management, Evanston, Ill.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Europe during World War II and was awarded two bronze stars.
He was associated with Summersett Funeral Home from 1940 until 1985, when he retired as executive vice president. After his retirement he worked and sang for funerals part-time for 10 years, serving families for over 50 years.
Mr. Bolden was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, where he was director of music for 37 years. He also was a deacon and trustee.
Past president of Salisbury Kiwanis Club, he received the Hixon Fellowship Award in 1998 from the club. He was secretary of the Franklin Township Fire Department for 25 years. Past master of Fulton Masonic Lodge 99, he was past president and a charter member of Salisbury Music Club.
He was also a member of Salisbury-Rowan Lodge Knights of Pythias, Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post 14 and Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006. He was moderator of the Rowan Baptist Association from 1975 to 1976.
His first wife, Dorothy Leonard Bolden, died Aug. 28, 1993.
Survivors include wife Georgia Sills Brown Stone Bolden; stepson M. Kent Brown, Salisbury; and two step-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mark Anders, pastor, Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. Gene Bost, chaplain at Trinity Oaks. Kiwanis Club members will be seated as a group. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

NORWOOD — Priscilla Smith Hartsell, 84, 40058 Porter Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Oct. 1, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Hartsell was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Matilda Clark Smith. She retired from the textile industry and was a member of Porter Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay J. Hartsell; and sons P.L. Hartsell and Gerald Wayne Hartsell.
Survivors include son Terry Lane Hartsell, Albemarle; daughters Mary Ellen Smith, Norwood, and Bonnie Hudson, Albemarle; brother Henry G. Smith, East Palatka, Fla.; sister Lulabelle Burns, East Palatka, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Emilio Mendez, 79, 3445 G St., Philadelphia, Pa., died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at his home.
Born July 31, 1921, in Puerto Rico, Mr. Mendez was a son of the late Matilde and Julio Mendez. He was educated in Puerto Rico schools, had been a laborer and was a Catholic.

Lesia Hendrix Miller
The funeral is scheduled today for Lesia Naomi Hendrix Miller, 39, 230 Susan Lane, who died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at her home.
Born Oct. 27, 1960, in Mooresville, Ms. Miller was a daughter of Ralph Hendrix of the home and the late Jeldia Crisp Hendrix. She formerly worked in the card room at Linn-Corriher Mills in Landis.
In addition to her father, she is survived by son Christopher Ray Rudd, Kannapolis; sister Wanda Foster of the home; and two grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for William “Bill” Morris Perry, 87, 1307 Price Ave., who died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Jan. 31, 1913, in Charlotte, Mr.Perry, a son of the late Gibson Pharr and Minnie Estelle Withers Perry, was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School.
He retired fromKannapolis Drug Co., where he was a druggist for over 50 years. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.
His wife, Virginia Perry, died Feb. 4, 2000.

morning for James Edward Summers, 72, 19504 Smithville Lane, who died Monday
(Oct. 9, 2000)at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.
Born Sept. 5, 1928, in Greenville, S.C., Mr.
Summers was a son of the late Odell and Lucille N. Summers. He had been employed
by Burlington Mills finishing department. A member of Mount Zion Baptist Church,
Boyden Quarters, Mount Ulla, he was a trustee.
Survivors include wife Edith Rivens Summers; sons
Jonathan and Martin Rivens, both of Charlotte, Walter Rivens, Cornelius, and
Tracey James, Statesville; daughters Travis Rivens and Tonya R. Sanders, both of

Lottie Peeler Williams
FAITH — Lottie “Miss Binkie” Banks Peeler
Williams, 79, Faith, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at her home.
Born March 31, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs.
Williams was a daughter of the late Floyd Lonnie Banks and Lottie Belle Efird
Peeler. She was a 1937 graduate of Granite Quarry High School and a graduate of
Crossnore Business Col-lege.
She retired as assistant to the tax supervisor
after 35 years with the Rowan County Tax supervisors Office.
A member of Faith Lutheran Church, she taught
Sunday school in the kindergarten department for 46 years and was a member of
Fisher Morgan Circle. She was a member of Faith American Legion Post 327
Auxiliary, where she was a past president and had held other offices. A
volunteer, she was a member of VAVS at W.G. Bill Hefner Veterans Hospital,
Salisbury.
Survivors include husband Marcelle Williams, whom
she married April 25, 1942; son Timothy Rae Williams, Faith; daughters Delores
Williams Eller, Concord, and Ginger Williams Smith, Faith; brother John Floyd
Peeler, Bulls Gap, Tenn.; sisters Lucille P. Brown, Faith, and Rachel P. Bailey,
Marion; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
