Robert Lee Bailey
Robert Lee Bailey, 62, 1115 Barbour St., died
Monday (Oct. 9, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 1, 1938, in Iredell County, Mr. Bailey
was a son of the late Jim and Mary Reid Bailey. He attended Dunbar High School,
East Spencer. He was a truck driver with Spencer Steel Supply Co.
A member of New Testament Word of Faith Church,
he was a deacon, Usher Board president, a member of the Men’s Fellowship and
the finance committee, and a bus driver.
Survivors include wife Mary Elizabeth Woodbury
Bailey; sons Arnold Bailey, of the home, Timothy Bailey, Spencer, Darryl Bailey,
Winston-Salem, and Stanley Bailey, Salisbury; daughters Robbin Black and Joyce
Bailey, both of East Spencer, and Adrienne Anderson, Salisbury; sister Mary E.
Tucker, Mooresville; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, New Testament Word of
Faith Church, conducted by the Rev. Martha Starks. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 12-1 p.m. Friday at the church.

Frances H. Boozer
ALBEMARLE —Frances Holsonback Boozer, 60, 900
Lake Lane, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000)at her home.
Born April 29, 1940, in Newberry County, S.C.,
Mrs. Boozer was a daughter of Inez Goodman Holsonback Evans, Newberry, and the
late Daniel Wesley Holsonback.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include
husband of 42 years R. Vernon Boozer; son Bobby Boozer, Ephrata, Pa.; daughter
Kelly Boozer Hamilton, Charlotte; sister Kathy Davenport, Newberry; brothers
Hugh Holsonback, Greenville, and Donnie Evans, Newberry; and two grandsons.

Grace Tucker Burris
ALBEMARLE — The funeral is today for Grace
Estelle Tucker Burris, 89, 620 Heathwood Drive, who died Tuesday (Oct. 10,
2000)at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1911, in Stanly County, Mrs. Burris
was a daughter of the late Clarence Otis and Myrtle Smith Tucker. She was a
member of Red Cross Baptist Church. Retired, she was a homemaker.
Her husband,Fred Allis Burris, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons Malcolm Tucker, Albemarle,
and Johnny Burris, Oakboro; brother Curtis Tucker, Oakboro; sister Cleonia Holt,
Richfield; and three grandchildren.

Elma Linker Dabbs
The funeral will be Saturday for Elma Geneva
Linker Dabbs, 82, 2423 Berkshire Drive, Brittany Downs, who died Tuesday (Oct.
10, 2000)at her home after an extended illness.
Born July 6, 1918, Mrs. Dabbs, a daughter of the
late Robert L. and Ruth Trexler Linker of Rockwell, was a graduate of Rockwell
High School.
Christened and confirmed at St. James Lutheran
Church, Rockwell, she later became a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran
Church, where she taught Sunday school and was superintendent of the weekday
church. She was secretary/treasurer of Dabbs Dabbs &Associates and Uniforce
Services before retiring in 2000.
The first president of the Optimist Mrs. Club and
the recipient of the International Presidential Award, she also served terms as
secretary and treasurer. She was a patron and benefactor of the arts.
Her husband, Charlie W. Dabbs, died July 4, 1983.
Survivors include son Charles L. Dabbs,
Salisbury; and twin sister Zelma L. Eagle, Kannapolis.

Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Battermann and the Rev. Craig Sigmon. Burial,

Mary Hope Hackett
A memorial service will be held Friday for Mary
Hope Hackett, 84, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000)at Lutheran Home
at Trinity Oaks after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 12, 1916, in St. Anthony, Iowa, Miss
Hackett was a daughter of the late Hugh Thomas and Minnie Boger Hackett. She was
a graduate of Liscomb High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa.
She retired from Mercy Hospital, Marshalltown,
Iowa, as an anesthetist. An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she
also was a member of several groups from Spencer Presbyterian Church, Spencer.
Survivors include a sister.
Services: Memorial mass of resurrection, 1 p.m.

OAKBORO — Matthew Patrick Hunt, 80, of Oakboro,
died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
He was a member of Second Street Presbyterian
Church, Albemarle. He volunteered to assist elderly Albemarle area residents
with tax preparations.

Vernelle Gilliam Palmer
The funeral will be Friday for Vernelle Gilliam
Palmer, 78, 420 Windsor Drive, who died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000)at her home
after an extended illness.
Born March 15, 1922, in Wilkes County, Mrs.
Palmer was a daughter of the late Willie and Euna Brooks Gilliam. She was a
graduate of Thomasville High School and received her bachelors degree in 1942
and her master’s degree in 1952 from Appalachian State Teachers College, now
Appalachian State University.
She was employed as a librarian in Davidson
County, Henderson, Lexington High School, Greensboro Senior High School,
Greensboro, and Boyden and East Rowan high schools.
She was a member of First Baptist Church,
Spencer, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the diaconate, past
president of the Baptist Women and served on many committees.
She was past president of the N.C. Association of
Educators, Rowan County Library Association and the N.C. Library Association.
She was a member and past president of Alpha Delta Kappa, chairwoman of the
Spencer Public Library Board, and a member of Spencer Women’s Club and the
Salisbury Charity League.
Survivors include husband Dr. Grover A. Palmer
Jr.; daughter Kaye Palmer Fulcher, Charlotte; and brother David Gilliam,
Charlotte.
