NEW LONDON — Linda Charleen Akers Burnette, 39, 42059 Depot Trail, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000)at her home.
Born Nov. 3, 1960, in Welch, W.Va., she was a daughter of Shirley Ann Huston Akers Hamrick, Richfield. She was a cashier with Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband David L. Burnette; son Kelly Trump, New London; brothers Thomas Akers, Richfield, and Aaron Akers, Mullens, W.Va.; sisters Stephanie Blalock, Richfield, Lisa Akers, Albemarle, Peggy Fury, Gold Hill, Ethel Haley, Oakboro and Frankie Reed, New London; and one grandchild.

Franklin Beadam Canup
GOLD HILL — The funeral will be Wednesday for Franklin Beadam Canup, 88, Gold Hill, who died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000)at the home of daughter Joyce Russell of Salisbury. He had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill since August.
Born Jan. 17, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Canup was a son of the late James William and Jane Catherine Thompson Canup. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.
Retired from N.C. Finishing Co., Spencer, he later worked in the grocery business and as a security guard for the N.C. National Guard. He was a member of Gold Hill Wesleyan Church.
His wife, Nellie Mae Campbell Canup, and an infant daughter preceded him in death.
Survivors include companion Mary Lou Drye; sons Billy Ray, Donald and Ronald Canup, all of Salisbury; daughters Joyce Russell and Janet Myers, both of Salisbury; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Rose Salamone Privett, 86, 215 Coyote Trail, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000)at her home.
Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Eastport, Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Privett was a daughter of the late Isadore and Anntoinette Salamone Salamone. A graduate of Eastport High School on Long Island, she was a supervisor of the Motor Vehicles Department in Suffolk County, Long Island, for 27 years.
In Salisbury, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters, the Bethel Lutheran Friendship Club and Christian Women, the Rowan County Home Extension Club, the Merry Hearts Club, the Ellis Park ceramic class and the Rowan CountyARC.
Her husband, William Henry Privett, died July 8, 1988.
Survivors include sons William H. Privett Jr., Herkimer, N.Y., and Lee Privett, Fairfax, Va.; daughters Patricia P. CHINA GROVE — Rachael Irene Hombarger Rodgers, 92, formerly of 140 Scarlet Road, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000)at Transitional Health Care, Kannapolis.
Born Feb. 9, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Rodgers was a daughter of the late John Alexander and Sarah Louise Roten Holland Hombarger.
Educated in the Cabarrus County schools, she had worked in the washcloth department at CannonMills. She was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ.
Her husband, Hugh Victor Rodgers, died Dec. 10, 1980.
Survivors include sons Ray Junior Rodgers and Edward Brown Rodgers, both of China Grove, and Arthur Banks Rodgers, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Wilbur Lee “Bill” Vail, 79, Salisbury, formerly of Charlotte, died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000)at his home in Salisbury.
Born Nov. 5, 1920, in Salisbury, Mr. Vail was a son of the late Vivian and Olivia Snyder Vail. A former electrician with Douglas Aircraft, he later retired after 10 years with Amp Inc.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart and a World War II Victory Medal.
