‘Crofford’ Alexander
CHINA GROVE — Charles“Crofford” Alexander,
77, 2250 Mary St., died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at his home after several months
of declining health.
Born June 13, 1923, in Cashers, Mr. Alexander, a
son of the late James Franklin and Tibbie Barnes Alexander, was educated at
FarmLife School.
He retired as a supervisor from China Grove
Cotton Mill and was a member of First Reformed Church, Landis. He was a lifelong
member of VFWPost 9089, China Grove, and the American Legion.
Survivors include wife Clara Efird Alexander; son
Charles Michael “Mike”Alexander, China Grove; daughters Gwen Stidham, China
Grove, Sandi Lauzon, Landis, and Cathie Hunter, Concord; brothers Robert
Alexander, China Grove, and Kenneth Alexander, Chesnee, S.C.; sister Lillie
MaHaffey, Gastonia; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Franklin Beadam Canup, 88, Salisbury, died Monday
(Oct. 9, 2000)at the home of his daughter.

Joseph Matthew Cartner
CLINTON, Ark. — Joseph Matthew Cartner, 29,
Clinton, died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000)at the VA Hospital in Clinton after several
months of declining health.
Born April 1, 1971, in Mocksville, N.C., Mr.
Cartner was a son of Kathy Dyson and Mickey Cartner, both of North Little Rock.
He attended schools in North Carolina and California and was a graduate of Apple
Valley High School in California.
He was Arkansas-West Missouri Fraternal
Coordinator and camp director for Woodmen of the World. He was a water craft
operator in the U.S. Army and a member of First Baptist Church, Clinton.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include
wife Aalesha Ridings Cartner; and brother Mike Cartner, Omaha, Neb.

BRISTOL, Tenn. —Jessie Lee Harris, 21, Bristol,
died Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, N.C.
Born Aug. 6, 1979, in Abington, Va., Mr. Harris
was a son of Denise Hess Harris, Bristol, and the late Michael Lynn Harris. A
1997 graduate of East Sullivan High School, he was a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include
stepfather Ronald Rasnake, Bristol; brother Jeremiah Wesley Harris, Faith,N.C.;
and grandparents Jessie Johns Hess, Faith, N.C., and Hannah Harris, Glade
Spring, Va.

SPENCER — The funeral will be Tuesday for Marie
Weaver Keys, 89, Spencer, who died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000)at Bethamy Retirement
Center, after a period of declining health.
Born March 10, 1911, in Rowan County, Mrs. Keys,
a daughter of the late Martin R. and Maggie Casper Weaver, was educated in the
Rowan County schools. She was a Baptist.
She and her late husband,RobertL. Keys, operated
a general store in Wilkes County. Her husband died Jan. 17, 1977.
Survivors include Robert “Bob” Keys,
Salisbury, and Jerry Key, North Wilkesboro; brother Jack Weaver, Salisbury;
sisters Willa Alexander, Landis, and Nellie Robinette, Kannapolis; seven
grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bobbie Jean ‘B.J.’ McKee
The funeral will be Tuesday for Bobbie Jean “B.J.”
Robinson McKee, 51, who died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000) at her home.
Born Sept. 27, 1948, in Salisbury, Mrs. McKee was
a daughter of Julia Mae Ramseur Robinson, China Grove, and the late Robert
Junior “June” Robinson. A graduate of Aggrey High School, Landis, she was a
member of Refreshing Springs Christian Ministries and its usher board.
A son, James Edward Shepherd Jr., preceded her in
death.

Born Sept. 17, 1945, in Rowan County, Mrs.
Merritt, a daughter of the late Paul and Edith Hoffner Kluttz, was educated in
the Rowan County schools. She was a Baptist.
She had been employed with W.G. “Bill” Hefner
VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Myers was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Bernice Sink Green.

DAVIDSON — Lillian Freeze Overcash, 90, 3741
Shiloh Church Road, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000)at Brian Center Health and
Retirement, Mooresville.
Born Aug. 22, 1910, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Overcash was a daughter of the late Chantz and Maude Rumple Freeze. She had been
employed with Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, and Draymore Manufacturing, Mooresville.
She was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church, Kannapolis.
A son, Elbert L. Overcash, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 74 years, John
WilliamOvercash; daughters Margie F. Shepherd, Concord, Lola Mae Herriot,
Naples, Fla., and Louise Elwood, Davidson; brother Frank Freeze, Davidson; 11
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Carl Floyd Reavis Jr.
Carl Floyd Reavis Jr., 73, 125 Catawba Drive,
died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at his home.
Born Oct. 31, 1926, in Landis, Mr. Reavis was a
son of the late Carl F. and Mary Readlin Reavis. He was educated in the Woodleaf
schools.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he retired
from the military after 20 years with the rank of sergeant first class. He later
worked for Rowan Business Forms and retired in 1984 from Food Lion.
He was a member of Landmark Church and
Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006.
Survivors include wife Darleen Cannon Reavis,
whom he married June 2, 1950; sons James Reavis, Washington, D.C., and Bill
Reavis, Salisbury; daughter Susan Reavis, Salisbury; brother Roy Reavis, China
Grove; and seven grandchildren.

Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Snipes and the Rev.
