St., died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Davie County, Mrs. Bailey
was a daughter of the late Eddie and Myrtle Hartley Potts. A homemaker, she was
a member of No Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Mocksville.
A daughter, Betty Lou Bailey, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include husband William S. Bailey; son
William Carlton Bailey, Cooleemee; daughter Bonnie Sue Nesbit, Salisbury;
brothers Calvin and Milburn “Mib” Potts, both of Lexington, and Grimes
Potts, Tyro; sister Shirley Shoes, Spring Lakes; two grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

Bishop B. Leon Davis, 57, 308 N. Race St., who died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000).
He organized the InterFaith Deliverance Center and was the founder and producer
of the Davis Singers of Atlanta, Ga.

ALBEMARLE — James Harley Hannah, 77, 606
Bethany Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000)at his home.
Born July 2, 1923, in Cheraw, S.C., Mr. Hannah, a
son of the late Boss and Nannie Teal Hannah, retired fromCarolina Solite Corp.
where he was a kiln operator. He was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Alma Mae Bagwell Hannah;
son James Vernon Hannah, Sanford; daughters Paulette H.Ford, Sanford, Pamela H.

James ‘Carlton’ Hooper
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for
James “Carlton” Hooper, 61, 421 Ebenezer Road, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3,
2000) at his home after a year of declining health.
Born Nov. 11, 1938, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Hooper, a son of the late Daniel J. and Elizabeth Byars Hooper, was a member of
First Baptist Church of Enochville. He owned and operated Hooper’s Auto Show,
where he did automotive restoration.
A daughter, Denise Hooper Black, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include son Jimmy Hooper, Concord;
daughter Tonia Hooper, China Grove; sister Dian Barnhardt; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandson.

LEXINGTON — The funeral is today for Joe Todd
Mock, 48, Hemstead Street, who died Sunday (Oct. 1, 2000) at Wake Forest Baptist
Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after 10 months of illness.
Born June 19, 1952, in Davidson County, Mr. Mock
was a son of the late Edward L. and Mary Lyons Mock. He was the glue room
supervisor with Lexington Furniture IndustriesPlant 1.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he attended Ezekial

CHINA GROVE — The funeral is today for Lewis
Avery Seymour, 77, formerly of China Grove, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at
Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.
Born Aug. 30, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Seymour,
a son of the late Hubert Walker and Catherine Bostian Seymour, was educated in
Rowan County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Harrisburg, and Bryan Seymour, Concord; sisters Mary Graham, China Grove, Barde

Sofronia Cecil Thompson
GOLD HILL — Funeral services will be held at a
later date for Sofronia Cecil Thompson, 66, Gold Hill, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3,
2000) at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro. She had been ill since June.
Born Sept. 12, 1934, in Montgomery County, Mrs.
Thompson, a daughter of the late Howard and Addie Bea Morris Cecil, was educated
in Montgomery County schools.
A Baptist, she had worked for Council Craft
Industries, Denton.
A daughter, Connie Irene Thompson, died at birth.
Survivors include sons Danny and Ronnie Thompson,
both of the home; daughters Donna T. Cauble, Salisbury, and Bonnie Gainus,
Denton; brothers Roy Cecil, Lexington, and Bobby Cecil, Denton; sisters

Wilhelm, a daughter of the late Robert Eugene and Sarah Felker McNeely, was
educated in Rowan County schools. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 and was
a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.

Rosa Mae Kelley Wilson
Rosa Mae Kelley Wilson, 77, died Tuesday (Oct. 3,
2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Home, Concord, after several years of declining
health.
Born June 23, 1923, in Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs.
Wilson, a daughter of the late Julia Douglas Kelley, was educated in RowanCounty
schools. She retired as a spinner fromFieldcrest Cannon and was a member of
United Baptist Church, Kannapolis.
Her husband, Odell Wilson, died Feb. 25, 1987.
Survivors include stepson Odell Wilson Jr., New
York, N.Y.; and brother Mitchell Henderson, Spencer.

Myrtle G.H. Young
SPENCER — Myrtle Jane Gobbel Howell Young, a
Spencer native, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Salemtowne Retirement Community,
Winston-Salem.
The daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Ellen
Simeson Gobbel, Mrs. Young attended Women’s College of the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro. She taught first grade at Nahunta in Wayne County and
was the original director of the Teen Recreation Room at Wayne County Memorial
Community Building, Goldsboro. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist
Church, Goldsboro.
She was preceded in death by her first husband,
James Hargrave Howell; her second husband, David Clyde Young; and son, John
Herbert Howell.
Survivors include daughter Sara H. Edwards,
Goldsboro; sons William G. Howell, Winston-Salem, James D. Howell, Monroe, Henry
G. Howell, Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
