Juanita Potts Bailey

COOLEEMEE —Juanita Potts Bailey, 82, 114 Joyner St., died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Davie County, Mrs. Bailey was a daughter of the late Eddie and Myrtle Hartley Potts. A homemaker, she was a member of No Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Mocksville.

A daughter, Betty Lou Bailey, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband William S. Bailey; son William Carlton Bailey, Cooleemee; daughter Bonnie Sue Nesbit, Salisbury; brothers Calvin and Milburn “Mib” Potts, both of Lexington, and Grimes Potts, Tyro; sister Shirley Shoes, Spring Lakes; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, Mocksville, conducted by Elder Eugene Bennett. Burial, No Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home,Mocksville.

 

Marion Kirkland Blakeney

EAST SPENCER —The funeral will be Friday for Marion Kirkland Blakeney, 70, 233 East Hall St., who died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after several years of serious illness.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Outreach Christian Tabernacle, Salisbury, conducted by Apostle Ray Taylor and Apostle Franklin Mills. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the church.

Bishop B. Leon Davis

STATESVILLE — The funeral will be Saturday for Bishop B. Leon Davis, 57, 308 N. Race St., who died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000). He organized the InterFaith Deliverance Center and was the founder and producer of the Davis Singers of Atlanta, Ga.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, InterFaith Deliverance Ministries, conducted by the Rev. James Hunter. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial, Catawba Memorial Park.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 7 p.m. Friday at the church. The body will be placed in the church at 6 p.m. A celebration of praise and worship will begin at 8.

Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home is in charge.

James Harley Hannah

ALBEMARLE — James Harley Hannah, 77, 606 Bethany Road, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000)at his home.

Born July 2, 1923, in Cheraw, S.C., Mr. Hannah, a son of the late Boss and Nannie Teal Hannah, retired fromCarolina Solite Corp. where he was a kiln operator. He was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Alma Mae Bagwell Hannah; son James Vernon Hannah, Sanford; daughters Paulette H.Ford, Sanford, Pamela H. Burleyson and Debra H. Faulkner, both of Albemarle; brothers Bobby, Thomas and Zeb Hannah, all of Lancaster, S.C.; sisters Annie Bell H. Brock, Fort Mill, S.C., Beatrice H. Brock, Gaffney, S.C., and Betty H. Kimrey, Norwood; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, HartsellFuneral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Alexander. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Pamela Burleyson, 606 Bethany Road.

James ‘Carlton’ Hooper

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for James “Carlton” Hooper, 61, 421 Ebenezer Road, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at his home after a year of declining health.

Born Nov. 11, 1938, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hooper, a son of the late Daniel J. and Elizabeth Byars Hooper, was a member of First Baptist Church of Enochville. He owned and operated Hooper’s Auto Show, where he did automotive restoration.

A daughter, Denise Hooper Black, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Jimmy Hooper, Concord; daughter Tonia Hooper, China Grove; sister Dian Barnhardt; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tom Huneycutt.

Visitation: 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Joe Todd Mock

LEXINGTON — The funeral is today for Joe Todd Mock, 48, Hemstead Street, who died Sunday (Oct. 1, 2000) at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after 10 months of illness.

Born June 19, 1952, in Davidson County, Mr. Mock was a son of the late Edward L. and Mary Lyons Mock. He was the glue room supervisor with Lexington Furniture IndustriesPlant 1.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he attended Ezekial AMEZionChurch.

Survivors include daughter Shayla Simpson,Lexington; brothers George Cecil Lyons and Edward Forrest Mock, both of Lexington; sister Shirley Mock Jones, Lexington.

Services: 7 tonight, Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Pettiford. Burial, Friday at the National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 6:30-7 tonight at the funeral home. The body may be viewed today from 1-8 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of a sister, 309 Wasburn St.

 

Lewis Avery Seymour

CHINA GROVE — The funeral is today for Lewis Avery Seymour, 77, formerly of China Grove, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.

Born Aug. 30, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Seymour, a son of the late Hubert Walker and Catherine Bostian Seymour, was educated in Rowan County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include sons Ronald Seymour, Harrisburg, and Bryan Seymour, Concord; sisters Mary Graham, China Grove, Barde Anderson, Mocksville, and Marie Helms, High Point; and five grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 1 today, National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by ChaplainOtey of Hefner VAMedical Center.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Sofronia Cecil Thompson

GOLD HILL — Funeral services will be held at a later date for Sofronia Cecil Thompson, 66, Gold Hill, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro. She had been ill since June.

Born Sept. 12, 1934, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Thompson, a daughter of the late Howard and Addie Bea Morris Cecil, was educated in Montgomery County schools.

A Baptist, she had worked for Council Craft Industries, Denton.

A daughter, Connie Irene Thompson, died at birth.

Survivors include sons Danny and Ronnie Thompson, both of the home; daughters Donna T. Cauble, Salisbury, and Bonnie Gainus, Denton; brothers Roy Cecil, Lexington, and Bobby Cecil, Denton; sisters Christine Marshall, Sue Owens, Gracie Cox and Doris Perkins, all of Denton; and four grandchildren.

Services: The body will be cremated and services held at a later date.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of Donna Cauble, Salisbury.

Sadie McNeely Wilhelm

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Sadie McNeely Wilhelm, 78, 1775 Hwy. 153, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 15, 1922, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wilhelm, a daughter of the late Robert Eugene and Sarah Felker McNeely, was educated in Rowan County schools. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 and was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include daughter Vickie Johnson, Kannapolis; sister Sarah Witherspoon, Kannapolis; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday,Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. C.P. Fisher Jr. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt FuneralHome,China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home of Vickie Johnson, 602 N. Walnut St., Kannapolis.

Rosa Mae Kelley Wilson

Rosa Mae Kelley Wilson, 77, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Five Oaks Nursing Home, Concord, after several years of declining health.

Born June 23, 1923, in Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs. Wilson, a daughter of the late Julia Douglas Kelley, was educated in RowanCounty schools. She retired as a spinner fromFieldcrest Cannon and was a member of United Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

Her husband, Odell Wilson, died Feb. 25, 1987.

Survivors include stepson Odell Wilson Jr., New York, N.Y.; and brother Mitchell Henderson, Spencer.

Services: 12 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Johnny E. Jones. Burial, Oakdale Cemetery.

Visitation: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Mitchell Henderson, 1335 Hollywood Drive, Spencer.

 

Myrtle G.H. Young

SPENCER — Myrtle Jane Gobbel Howell Young, a Spencer native, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Salemtowne Retirement Community, Winston-Salem.

The daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Ellen Simeson Gobbel, Mrs. Young attended Women’s College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught first grade at Nahunta in Wayne County and was the original director of the Teen Recreation Room at Wayne County Memorial Community Building, Goldsboro. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Hargrave Howell; her second husband, David Clyde Young; and son, John Herbert Howell.

Survivors include daughter Sara H. Edwards, Goldsboro; sons William G. Howell, Winston-Salem, James D. Howell, Monroe, Henry G. Howell, Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, Willow Dale Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Earl Dulaney and the Rev. Jean Hood. Memorial, 3 p.m. Saturday, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Goldsboro.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Seymour Funeral Home, Goldsboro, and immediately after the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
