John W. Davis
ALBEMARLE — The funeral will be Thursday for John W. Davis, 75, 185 Arey Ave., who died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Laurel Regional Medical Center, Laurel, Md.
Born Oct. 21, 1924, in Anson County, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Fred and Effie Smith Davis. Educated in the Anson County schools, he completed a vocational course in brick laying at Kingville High School.
He retired from Alcoa in Badin, where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was a member of Mount Zion AMEZion Church, Mount Gilead, where he was a former trustee, steward, class leader and Sunday school superintendent. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include wife Winnie Green Davis; sons Roger and Lonnie Taylor, both of Polkton; and brother Fred Davis, Thomasville.
Services:2 p.m. Thursday, Mount Zion AME Zion Church, Pee Dee community, Mount Gilead, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Mitchell. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: The family will be at the home onArey Avenue.

Mack Clinton Dean
Private services will be held for Mack Clinton Dean, 49, 313 Mildred Ave., who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000)at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Dec. 7., 1950, Mr. Dean, a son of Elvia and Opal MacDowell Dean, Lodi, Calif., was a graduate of the Lodi, Calif., schools.
An equipment operator with F.T. Williams Construction Co., he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW in Charlotte and Salisbury Moose Lodge.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Glenda Kirkman Dean; daughter Jessica Meacham, Salisbury; brothers Tim and Richard Dean, both of Lodi, Calif.; sister Carol Blaize, Lodi, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Services: Private.

Roger ‘Phil’ Ellenburg
The funeral is today for Roger Phillip “Phil” Ellenburg, 27, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000) in Cleveland from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 1, 1973, in Rowan County, Mr. Ellenburg was a son of Diana Rogers Ellenburg, of the home, and the late William L. Ellenburg. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a free-lance artist. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Sarah Raposa Ellenburg; son Roger Phillip Ellenburg Jr., of the home; stepbrothers William L. Ellenburg Jr., of the U.S. Army, and Paul Ellenburg, Florida; and stepsister Billie Jean Wilson, Salisbury.
Services: 1 today, Community Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris O’Guin. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Annie Starling Huneycutt
ALBEMARLE — Annie Mabel Starling Huneycutt, 85, formerly of Bethany Road, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000)at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Born April 10, 1915, in Stanly County, Mrs. Huneycutt was a daughter of the late Alfred Eugene and Agatha Lee Talbert Sterling. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Her husband, A. Scott Huneycutt, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son A. Scott Huneycutt Jr., Burlington; brothers W. Verlin Sterling, Albemarle, and Alfred C.
Starling, Charlotte; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Bethany United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeffery A. Sweeney. Burial, church cemetery.

CHINA GROVE —Lewis Seymour, 77, Lumberton, formerly of China Grove, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.

Raskey Smallwood
Raskey Smallwood, 89, 835 Bonanza Drive, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Banks County, Ga., Mr. Smallwood was a son of the late Jape and Georgia Brown Smallwood. He retired from Greenwood Mills and was U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and Siloam Baptist Church, Ninety Six, S.C.
His wife, Amie Wilbanks Smallwood, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter Beatrice S. Hall, Salisbury; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday for James W. Snider, 53, Columbus, Ga., a former Salisbury resident who died Sept. 18 at Fountain City Nursing Home, Columbus, Ga.

Margaret Campbell Snyder
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Margaret Campbell Snyder, 69, 1202 Central Drive, who died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000)at Big Elm Nursing Center after three years of illness.
Born July 10, 1931, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Snyder was a daughter of the late James A. and Esther Hartsell Campbell. She was educated in the Cabarrus County schools and Cabarrus School of Nursing. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
She was a certified occupational health nurse from Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte. Retired from Fieldcrest Cannon in 1997 after 35 years as a company nurse, she was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis.
Survivors include husband Henry Snyder; sons Wayne and Eric Snyder, both of Kannapolis, and Mark Snyder, Concord; daughters Kay Chapman, Kannapolis, and Esther Belew, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters Betty Cochran, Kannapolis, and Elizabeth Phillips, Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sofronia Cecil Thompson, 66, Greensboro, formerly of Rowan County, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Arthur Murry Trexler
Arthur Murry Trexler, 83, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000)at Spencer Health Care, Spencer.
Born April 3, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Trexler was a son of the late James and Bessie Eller Trexler. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had worked in the sawmill industry. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
