Cynthia Collins Barlowe
NEBO — Cynthia Nan Collins Barlowe, 46, Nebo,
died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000).
Born Dec. 19, 1953, in McDowell County, Mrs.
Barlowe was a daughter of Nancy Blalock and Samuel Ernest Collins Jr., both of
Salisbury. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, the Hospital
Auxiliary and First Baptist Church of Marion.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include
husband Doug Barlowe; son Ryan Joshua Barlowe, of the home; daughter Eva
Kathleen Barlowe, of the home; brother Samuel E. Collins III, Salisbury; sisters
Teresa Anglin and Sharen Collins, both of Salisbury, Bunny Elaine Mills, Nebo,
Karen Hipp, Charlotte, and Anita Foute, Indianapolis, Ind.
Services were held Thursday at First Baptist

Connie Goodman Carroll
NEW LONDON — Connie Goodman Thompson Carroll,
96, 40469 Hearne Road, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at her home.
Born Jan. 3, 1904 in Stanly County, she was a
daughter of the late Etta Little and James William Goodman. The oldest member of
Prospect Baptist Church, she was a homemaker.
Her first husband, Joe W. Thompson, and her
second husband, Olin Carroll, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Joe Thompson, Charlotte;
daughter Betty T. Holt, New London; stepsons Dewey Carroll, Atlanta, and Tommy
Carroll, Denton; brother Gus Goodman of Albemarle; sister Thelma Smith of
Albemarle; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren;
and four step-great-grandchildren.

James Lewis Huneycutt
ALBEMARLE — James Lewis Huneycutt, 71, 1416
White Oak Ave., died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Wake Forest Baptist Medical
Center, Winston-Salem.
Born on March 26, 1929, in Stanly County, he was
a son of the late Rufus E. and Ellen Bowers Huneycutt. He was a graduate of
Millingport School.
He had retired from Textron where he was a
supervisor in shipping and receiving. He was a member of Canton Baptist Church.
Mr. Huneycutt was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Hartsell
Huneycutt; a daughter, Susan Penrod, San Antonio, Texas; brothers Gilbert, D.C.,
Melvin, and Bob Huneycutt, all of Albemarle; sisters Trula Hall, Monroe, and
Irene Whitley, Albemarle; and one grandchild.

Hugh Delmous Graves
MOCKSVILLE —Hugh Delmous Graves, 93, Dedmon
Road, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury.
Born Feb. 27, 1907, in Davie County, Mr. Graves
was the son of the late Sarah and John F. Graves. He was a self-employed dairy
farmer.
Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his wife,
Bessie Flora Richie Graves.

both of Mocksville; and brother Ray Graves, Kernersvile.

son of Leonel Olguin, Concord, and Dana Kay Harrell, of the home.

KANNAPOLIS — Rocky Wayne Hensley, 42,
Kannapolis, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000)at his father-in-law’s home in China
Grove as the result of a lawn mower accident.
Born May 11, 1958, in Paintsville, Ky., Mr.
Hensley was the son of Doyle Wayne Hensley, Dayton, Tenn., and the late Faye
Lipe Hensley. He was employed with Defender Services as an account manager.

ALBEMARLE — Joan D. Migliorato, 82, 33420 Old
Salisbury Road, died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000)at Britthaven of the Piedmont.
Born May 30, 1918, in Weirton, W.Va., Mrs.
Migliorato was a daughter of the late Christina and Frank Jeffie. She was a
homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God.
Mrs. Migliorato was preceded in death by her
husband, Mario Migliorato.
Survivors include son Joseph Migliorato, Canton,
Conn.; daughter Christina Turbeville, Badin; sister Marian Fosnaught, Alliance,
Ohio; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Roland Watts Morison
Roland Watts Morison, 89, Salisbury, died Friday
(Sept. 22, 2000)at Rowan RegionalMedical Center.
Born March 30, 1911, in Baltimore, Mr. Morison
was a son of the late Pearl Magruder and Roland R. Watts. Educated in the
schools of Salisbury, Md., he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the
Korean conflict.
He was a highway engineer for the state of
Maryland before retiring in 1972. Mr. Morison was a member of St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church, where he served as crucifer.
His wife, Blanche Hurd Morison, died Jan. 28,
2000.
Survivors include son Patrick H. Morison,
Kalispell, Mont.; daughter Jeannette M. Ketner, Salisbury, and Polly M. Back,
Vancouver, Canada; brother Robert Morison, Baltimore; six grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Services:Memorial, 6 p.m. Monday, St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. John Southern. The body will be
cremated.

ALBEMARLE —Alton Ulysses Morton, 53, 21026 St.
Martin Road, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at his residence.
Born Aug. 12, 1947, in Stanly County, Mr. Morton
was a son of the late Carrie Howell and Ulysses Pierce Morton. A machinist with
Rusco Fixture Co., he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a
member of St. Martin Lutheran Church.
Survivors include wife Lynn Oliver Morton; sons
Alton U. Morton Jr., of the home, and Ronnie Dwayne Morton, Locust; daughters

MOORESVILLE —Billie Bryant Overcash, 66, East
Mills Avenue, died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical
Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1934, in North Wilkesboro, she was
the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Myers Bryant. She was an employee
of General Times for 15 years.

Born Sept. 28, 1938, in Washington, D.C., Mrs.
Russell was a daughter of the late Marian Francis Imlay and Vernon Clay Gossage.
She was a seamstress for Perfect Fit Industries.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her
husband, Jimmy Ray Russell.

NORWOOD — Julia “J.V.” Poplin Russell, 87,

Born Dec. 30, 1912, in Stanly County, Mrs.
Russell was a daughter of the late Martha Jane Harward and Thomas Lafayette
Poplin. A retired homemaker, she was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her
husband, Clifford C. Russell.
Survivors include son Ted C. Russell, with whom
she made her home; daughters Jane Russell Jones and Anne Russell Hartsell, both
of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ginger Russell Boger, Hickory; brother Woodrow
Poplin, Albemarle; sister Dera Poplin Mabry, Norwood; nine grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.

Katherine Raney Sheehan
Katherine Raney Sheehan, 89, formerly of West
Marsh Street, died Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000)at the Lutheran Home at Trinity
Oaks.
Born Oct. 29, 1910, in Faith, Mrs. Sheehan was a
daughter of the late Beulah Gardner and Charles Franklin Raney. Educated in the
Rowan County schools, she graduated from Catawba College.
A teacher in Wilmington and Salisbury for a
number of years, she later operated a jewelry store with her husband. Mrs.
Sheehan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Her husband, John A. Sheehan, died Aug. 6, 1977.
Survivors include sons John A. Sheehan Jr.,
Salisbury, and Charles M. Sheehan, Atlanta; daughter Raney Sheehan, Atlanta; six
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
