James ‘Jim’ Vernon Askew
The funeral will be Friday for James “Jim” Vernon Askew, 61, of Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Nov. 29, 2000) at his residence.
Born July 11, 1939, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Askew was a son of the late Harold B. and Annie Ruth May Askew. Educated at Griffin, Ga., High School and Auburn University, he was employed by Chatham Mills, Lebanon, Tenn., as a textile manager in yarn and fabric design. He was also employed with W.A. Brown and Son Refrigeration Company.
Mr. Askew was a member of Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church and was an honorary life deacon and church custodian. He was also a member of Cardinal Square Dance Club and past treasurer of the Granite Quarry Civitan Club.
Survivors include wife Annie “Ruth” Eller Askew, whom he married June 22, 1978; sons Jeffery R. Knight, Spencer, and J. David Askew, Salisbury; daughters Cindy K. Waller, Salisbury, and Leisa G. Askew, Auburn, Ala.; sisters Sally Overfelt, Buckhead, Ga., and Mary Hayes, Vienna, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

GOLD HILL — William Douglas “Dougie” Barringer Jr., 30, Gold Hill, died Wednesday (Nov. 29, 2000) in Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born June 29, 1970, in Stanly County, Mr. Barringer was a son of Gail Owens and William Douglas Barringer of Gold Hill. He graduated from East Rowan High School in 1988 and had been a self-employed truck driver. He was a Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by sister Maria Barringer Kirk, Rockwell.

Johnny Yates Bumgarner
MOORESVILLE — Johnny Yates Bumgarner, 60, of Superior Drive, died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000)at his residence.
Born Sept. 22, 1940, in Iredell County, Mr. Bumgarner was a son of Bessie Sipes Bumgarner Greenhill, Mooresville, and the late Roby Yates Bumgarner. He was retired from Burlington Industries, Mooresville, having been with the company for more than 35 years.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Sarah Jane Barkley Bumgarner, whom he married Sept. 19, 1975; daughters Kimberly B. Petrusak, Greenville, S.C., and Crystal L. Born Feb. 17, 1905, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Clayton was a daughter of the late Thomas MacArthur and Martha Jane Parker Fisher.
She retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1 sewing room after 40 years of service and was a member of Midway United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Clayton, and daughter, Ethel “Doodle” Caraway.
Survivors include daughter Gay Nell Hayer, Kannapolis; son Bobby J. Clayton, Landis; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

MOORESVILLE — Bonnie Safrit Linker, 83, Avinger Lane, Davidson, formerly of Mooresville, died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1917, in Iredell County, Mrs. Linker was a daughter of the late Hugh and Flora Davis Safrit. She was retired from Burlington Industries, Mooresville, and was a member of the Mooresville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jamison Linker, who died Sept. 17, 1988.

Jack Nathaniel Misenheimer, 58, of Rockwell, died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000)at his residence, after five months of serious illness.
Born Nov. 8, 1942, in Rowan County, Mr. Misenheimer was a son of Mabel Bost Misenheimer, Salisbury, and the late Adolphus Nathaniel Misenheimer. Educated at East Rowan High School, he continued his education in the military. He was employed by Freightliner Corp. of Cleveland, was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict, and retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of Organ Lutheran Church and the Organ Historical Property Committee.

LEXINGTON — Bernard Edward “Bernie”Mahoney, 60, 866 Tyro Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Aug. 10, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Mahoney was a son of the late Bernard John and Charlotte Daniels Mahoney. He had been a Davidson County resident for 13 years.
He was formerly employed with Carpenters Union Local 312. He attended Tyro United Methodist Church and had been a Little League football coach in the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area.

Born Sept. 1, 1924, in York County, S.C., Mrs. Moore was daughter of the late Laciel and Vennie Tate Barnett. Educated in public schools of York County, she was a retired employee of Federal Pacific Electric Company of Albemarle. She was a member of McDonald Chapel AME Zion Church, Badin, and was a member of the deaconess board, usher board and the stewardess board.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Major Moore, and a son, Major Moore Jr.

BELLS LANDING, Pa. — Edward John “Chonk”Odrosky, 76, Mahaffey Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 15, 2000)at the DuBois Regional Medical Center West.
Born April 7, 1924, in Clearfield, Mr. Odrosky was a son of the late John and Valerie Sekula Odrosky. A 1942 graduate of Clearfield Area High School, Mr. Odrosky was retired from Kurtz Brothers in Clearfield as an offset pressman after 43 years with the company. He was a member of the Clearfield Sons of Italy Club, the Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville, the Curwensville VFW Post 842 and the Curwensville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 268.
His wife, Ruth Johnston Odrosky, whom he married Nov. 9, 1946, preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1995.

KANNAPOLIS —The funeral will be Friday for Comus Cleo “Pop” White, 90, 4262 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, who died Tuesday (Nov. 28, 2000)at his residence, after four years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1910, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. White was a son of the late N.C. and Nancy Ada Brooks White. He retired several years ago from the weave room at Cannon Mills, Plant One, Kannapolis, where he was employed for 45 years as a loom fixer. Mr. White had lived in the area for 70 years and was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.

Born Sept. 8, 1907, in Forsyth County, Mrs. Willard was a daughter of the late Daniel and Cora Nunn Watkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Northwest Baptist Church, Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Willard was preceded in death by her husband, a Winston-Salem fire department captain, Everett G. Willard, who died in 1975.
Survivors include daughter Betty W. Jackson, Salisbury; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
