ROCKWELL — After receiving information from an anonymous source, the Special Investigations Unit of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department arrested a teen-ager for selling the drug Ecstasy.
On Friday, the unit apprehended Timothy Dalen Lewis, 18, 526 Dogwood Circle, for possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies said they found Lewis sitting in a truck parked at the Aldi Food Store on Avalon Drive, which was not open at the time. According to Lt. J.C. Sifford, the store is in no way connected to Lewis.
After Lewis consented to a search of his vehicle, deputies said they found:
- A black film canister containing 10 off-white Ecstasy pills.
- $128 in cash.
- A backpack with four bottles of water.
- A plastic bag with two packs of light sticks.
According to Sifford, the light sticks and water are common companions associated with Ecstasy. The use of the drug raises the body temperature, which increases the desire for water. The light sticks are often used as a visual stimulant to enhance the effects of Ecstasy.
The pills were marked with the “Nike” symbol. Sifford said the symbol may have been simply for decoration or meant as the suspect’s trademark.
Deputies took Lewis to the Rowan County Detention Center where he was placed under $1,000 secured bond.
