Augustus Junior Campbell

MOCKSVILLE — Augustus Junior Campbell, 70, Lot 23 Calvin Lane, died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born May 1, 1930, in Iredell County, Mr. Campbell was a son of the late Florance Benfield and Augustus Campbell. He was a truck driver, last employed with Cannon Mills.

Survivors include wife Frances Carrielee Benton Campbell; stepsons Paul and Richard Newsome, both of Salisbury, and Michael Newsome, Mocksville; step-daughter Leisa Goodnight, Forest City; and nine grandchildren.

Services:4 p.m. Wednesday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Samual Whittington. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Sylvia Ann Jackson Burris

CONCORD —Sylvia Ann Jackson Burris, 54, 1145 Old Concord-Salisbury Road, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) at Avante Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 19, 1946, in Mount Croghan, S.C., Mrs. Burris was a daughter of Lonnie B. Jackson, Mount Croghan, and the late Lucy Horne Jackson. Mrs. Burris retired due to ill health from Fieldcrest Cannon weave and spinning rooms.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include husband James Brady Burris; son James Brady Burris Jr., of the home; daughter Sandra Jackson Pittard, Kannapolis; stepdaughters Brenda Kelly, Mount Pleasant, and Shirley Measmer, Rockwell; sisters Margaret Davis, Ruby Horne and Ellie Hunsucker, all of Kannapolis; brothers Harry, Lonnie, James and Michael Jackson, all of Kannapolis, Harold Jackson, China Grove, and Randy Jackson, Mount Croghan, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Services:11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Harry Jackson and the Rev. Mary Arnette. Burial, Cabarrus Memorial Gardens, Concord.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Sandra Jackson Pittard, 612 Leonard Ave., Kannapolis.

 

Grady Ernest Casey

The funeral will be Wednesday for Grady Ernest Casey, 83, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Oct. 6, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Casey was a son of the late Melia Catherine Casey. Educated in Rowan County schools Mr. Casey retired from Cone Mills. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Lerla Koontz Casey; and brother Junior H. Casey, Salisbury.

Services:11 a.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Christopher O’Guinn, pastor, Community Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Violet Lily Frady Douthit

MOORESVILLE — Violet Lily Frady Douthit, 81, Alexander Acres Road, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000)at her residence.

Born June 14, 1919, in Telico Plains, Tenn., Mrs. Douthit was a daughter of the late Poley and Zona Dalton Frady. Mrs. Douthit was a retired machine operator for Chempsun Yarns and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Mrs. Douthit was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Douthit.

Survivors include sons Bobby and Arnold Douthit, both of Denver, Edward Douthit, Mooresville, and Jack Douthit, Fairfield, Calif.; daughters Jean “Gat” Karriker, Denver, and Ann Tilley, Mooresville; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Liberty Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Lonny Ramsey and the Rev. Ralph Robinette. Burial, Victory Baptist Church Cemetery, Denver.

Dighton M. Fiddner

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Dighton M. Fiddner, 77, 1240 Patterson St., who died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000)at his home after a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Pinebluff, Mr. Fiddner was a son of the late John and Viola Grover Fiddner. A graduate of Aberdeen High School and Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn.,

A funeral director for 59 years, he was employed by Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church and the Allen Graham Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd-degree Mason.

Survivors include wife Trilby Beaver Fiddner; sons John Reid Fiddner, China Grove, and Dighton Fiddner Jr., Mount Lebanon, Pa.; brother John Fiddner Jr., Wrightsville Beach; sisters Cecilia F. Troutman and Helen F. Lampley, both of Pinebluff; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kearney. Graveside, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Pinebluff Cemetery.

James Franklin Gaines

MOCKSVILLE —The funeral will be Wednesday for James Franklin Gaines, 57, 1839 Highway 601 S., who died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000)at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.

Born March 2, 1943, in Rowan County, Mr. Gaines was a son of the late Daniel Dewey and Cora Mabe Gaines. Educated in Rowan County schools, Mr. Gaines worked at Linn Corriher Mills in the maintenance department and at Rowan-Salisbury schools in maintenance. He was a member of Corriher Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include companion Linda Beck, of the home; daughters Kimberley Gaines, Mooresville, and Kelley Gaines Bare, China Grove; brothers Nelson and Forrest Gaines, both of Kannapolis, and W.L. “Dub” Gaines, Landis; sisters Vernie Fredrickson, Salisbury, and Frances Black, China Grove; and three grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Wednesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Joe Shinault and the Rev. Chris Pethel. Burial, Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Esther Goodwin Godfrey

Esther Goodwin Godfrey, 81, of Salisbury, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Clate Hall

KANNAPOLIS — Clate Hall, 81, 811 Fairway Drive, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 23, 1918, in Wilkes County, Mr. Hall was a son of the late Robert and Mertie Shephard Hall. Employed by Cannon Mills Co. Plant 4, no. 1 weave room for 39 years until his retirement in 1980, he was a member of Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

His wife, Ellen Price Hall, died Oct. 27, 1997; a son, Charles W. Hall, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughter Dianne Hall Jones, Kannapolis; brothers Fred Hall, Kannapolis, and Robert Hall, Purlear; sisters Zell H. Woodard and Virginia H. Brown, both of Wilkesboro, Mary H. Brown, McGrady, and Faye H. Brown, North Wilkesboro; and one grandson.

Services:2 p.m. Wednesday, Charity Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. R.J. Hammond and the Rev. Sam Crisp. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Lois Brown Haynes

The funeral will be Wednesday for Lois Brown Haynes, 68, 101 Overhill Drive, who died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1931, in Salisbury, Mrs. Haynes was a son of Johnnie Heilig Brown, Salisbury, and the late Dodd Addison Brown. A graduate of Boyden High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received her degree in education, Mrs. Haynes taught school in Raleigh and later was employed by the Salisbury City Schools.

She served as vice president of W.A. Brown and Son Inc. Mrs. Haynes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the UMW, the administrative board and financial committee, and was church treasurer. She was past president of the Alumni Association at UNCG, a member and past president of the Jr. Woman’s Club and was active in Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a past board member and a treasurer of Rowan Museum. She was a member of the Book Marker Book Club and past chairwoman of the Salisbury Housing Authority.

Survivors include husband J. Earl Haynes, whom she married Nov. 3, 1956; sons Steven Haynes, Winston-Salem, and Dodd Haynes, Charlotte; brother Edward A. Brown, Salisbury; and five grandchildren.

Services:Memorial, 2 p.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Griffis, minister, the Rev. Sherri E. Barnes, associate minister, and the Rev. Don Haynes. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: After the memorial service, at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Milas ‘June’ Hendley

KANNAPOLIS —Milas Lindsay “June” Hendley, 78, 317 Central Ave., died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born May 19, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hendley was a son of the late Milas Lindsay and Carrie Mae Hines Hendley. He retired in 1991 from Fieldcrest-Cannon Plant 1 bleachery department and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Survivors include wife Helen Hendley; son William Lindsay “Linny” Hendley, Landis; brother Bobby Mack Hendley, Surfside, S.C.; sisters Betty Barnhardt, Doris Allred, and Phyllis Chance, all of Concord; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services:2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Sandy Yow. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son William L. Hendley, 409 Turner St., Landis.

 

Sam Thomas Huneycutt

STANFIELD — Sam Thomas Huneycutt, 82, 16366 Substation Road, died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Stanly County, Mr. Huneycutt was a son of the late Silas Arthur and Hattie Morgan Huneycutt. Employed by the city of Albemarle, Mr. Huneycutt retired in 1979 as an outside maintenance worker. He was a member of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Huneycutt was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Almond Tucker Huneycutt.

Survivors include stepdaughters Lovene Scott and Gayle Thompson, both of Kernersville; brother Flave Huneycutt, Oakboro; sisters Helen Shinn, Oakboro and Mable Smith, Albemarle; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were held today at 11 a.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joe E. Smith and the Rev. Louis Pfeiffer. Burial, Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Stanfield.

The family is at the home at 16366 Substation Road.

 

Pearl Elizabeth Loman

Pearl Elizabeth Loman, 83, Salisbury, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000) at her daughter’s home in Burlington.

Born Feb. 5, 1917, in Orange County, Mrs. Loman was a daughter of the late James and Alice Finnesan Crabtree. Mrs. Loman attended Proximity School, Greensboro, and was a homemaker.

She was a an active member of Trinity Wesleyan Church for 44 years and a former Sunday school teacher. She traveled with her husband, Dr. J. Harold Loman, and assisted in his evangelistic and revival ministry before his death on Feb. 17, 2000.

Survivors include sons James Larry Loman, San Antonio, Texas, the Rev. Richard Lynn Loman, Mount Airy, the Rev. Harold Lane Loman, Greensboro, and the Edward Leslie Loman, Salisbury; daughter Janice Marie Allman, Burlington; brother Dwight Crabtree, McLeansville; sisters Molene Robertson and Irene Teague, both of Greensboro, and Ruby Johnson, Yadkinville; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity Wesleyan Church, conducted by the Rev. Ernest Mullins, pastor, the Rev. Lee Cockerill, the Rev. Richard Loman, the Rev. Mark Loman and the Rev. Max Allman. Burial, 10 a.m. Thursday, Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro.

Visitation:5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Evelyn Mattox

KANNAPOLIS — Evelyn Gill Mattox, 76, Palm Bay, Fla., and a former resident of Salisbury, died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at her home.

Lisa G. Stump

MELBORNE, Fla. — Lisa G. Stump, 45, 3072 Rio Palma N., died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000).

Born Jan. 22, 1955, in Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Stump was a daughter of Peggy L. Harper and Robert A. Maness of Salisbury. A graduate of the Indiana University School of Nursing, she was a member of the Bible Study Fellowship, Mothers in Touch, South Brevard Junior League and was an active volunteer at her children’s school. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Indialantic.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Daniel Stump, Indialantic, Fla.; son Michael; daughters Elizabeth and Anna; sisters Janie and Kay, both of North Carolina; and brother Robert M. Maness, North Carolina.

Services:2 today, First Baptist Church of Indialantic, Fla.

Nancy Barnard Wallace

KANNAPOLIS — Nancy Leann Barnard Wallace, 51, 8218 Freeze Road, died Monday (Nov. 27, 2000)at her home.

Born April 2, 1949, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Everette and Dovie “Jewell” Combs Barnard.

Survivors include husband William B. Wallace; son Ronald Craig Abernathy Jr., Salisbury; daughters Pamela L. Abernathy, Salisbury, and Sonya R. Cavanaugh, Wilmington; brothers Everette “Butch” Barnard Jr., Salisbury, and Larry Barnard, Rockwell; and five grandchildren.
