John Herbert Black
KANNAPOLIS — John Herbert Black,
72, 461 China Grove Road, died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000)at his residence after
two months of serious illness.
Born March 10, 1928, in Union
County, Mr. Black was a son of the late Ernest and Foda Pigg Black. He was
employed for 45 years with Fieldcrest-Cannon., Plant 1, where he retired as a
supervisor in the quality control sheeting department.
A member of Allen-Graham Masonic
Lodge, Kannapolis, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include wife Mildred
Clampet Black; sons Jeremy Wilhelm, of the home; and John Black Jr. and Wilson
Black, both of Monroe; sisters Betty Ruth Love and Hannah William, both of
Monroe, Glenda Flowe, Charlotte, and Geraldine Gibson, Midland; brothers Hugh
and Bobby Black, both of Midland, Jeffrey Black, Indian Trail, and Delane Black,
Middlesburg, Fla.; two granddaughters; and one great-grandchild.

Frank Evans, 75, Salisbury, died
Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1925, in Rowan
County, Mr. Evans was a son of the late James Samuel and Alice Elizabeth Poston
Evans. A graduate of Boyden High School, he was employed with N.C. Finishing Co.
for 40 years, retiring as third-shift supervisor in 1987.
Mr. Evans was a member of St.
John’s Lutheran Church, Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342 and
Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006. He served on the board of directors of Home
Lighting Supply.
His wife, Lucille Rex Evans, died
Sept. 16, 1972.
Survivors include son Milton Frank
“Mickey” Evans, Salisbury; sister Katherine E. Reavis, Salisbury; and two
grandchildren.

Barry Gray Hatley
Barry Gray Hatley, 50, Salisbury,
died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000)at his residence.
Born Feb. 15, 1950, in Rowan
County, Mr. Hatley was a son of the late Buddie H. and Margaret Boggs Hatley. A
1969 graduate of Boyden High School, he studied drafting at Rowan-Cabarrus
Community College.
He had retired from KoSa after 25
years with the company, where he worked in shipping in the warehouse. Mr. Hatley
was a past member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a current member of
Christ United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Salisbury-Rowan
Runners Club.
Survivors include brothers Larry R.
Hatley, Salisbury, and Ron Hatley, Faith; and sister Bonnie H. Carter, Granite
Quarry.

James Martin McIntyre
WOODLEAF — James “Jim”Martin
McIntyre, 74, Woodleaf, died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000)at the Salisbury Lutheran
Nursing Home after 14 months of declining health and eight weeks of serious
illness.
Born Feb. 13, 1926, in Rowan
County, Mr. McIntyre was a son of the late Cyrus Edwin and Lillian Michael
McIntyre. Educated in the Woodleaf schools, he was a graduate of Charlotte
Diesel School.
Mr. McIntyre was owner and operator
of an auto repair shop at his home in Woodleaf. A retired member of Woodleaf
Volunteer Fire Department, he had also retired from MAN Truck and Bus in
Cleveland and from the Rowan County bus garage.
He was amember of Woodleaf United
Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Ladies and Men’s Bible Class.
He was a member of the West Rowan Nutrition Site.
Survivors include wife Reba Nichols
McIntyre, formerly of Cooleemee, whom he married in 1943; son Robert McIntyre,
Woodleaf; daughters Catherine “Tiny” Steele, Woodleaf, and Ann McIntyre,
Salisbury; sister Mildred Ward, Woodleaf; six grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three
step-great-grandchildren.

Oakley, 69, Willup Trail, died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000)at NorthEast Medical
Center, Concord.
Born April 16, 1931, in Valdosta,
Ga., she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Eunice Vogt. Employed in the
textile industry, she was a member of Unity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis,
where she was active in the Good Hope Sunday School Class.

Emma Jean Prime Sherrill
Emma Jean Prime Sherrill, 73, Fort
Washington, Md., died Tuesday (Nov. 21, 2000)at her residence.
Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Washington,
Pa., Mrs. Sherrill was a daughter of the late Oca Viola Prime. She was educated
in the public schools of Washington, Pa., and at Livingstone College. A retired
minister, she was a member of the Washington Metropolitan Area of Ministry of
Intercession.
Mrs. Sherrill was preceded in death
by her first husband, Elven Price Boyce, and her second husband, Arthur
Sherrill.

Judith M. Sherrill
WOODLEAF — Judith M. Sherrill,
2390 South River Church Road, died Sunday (Nov. 26, 2000)at her residence after
two months of serious illness.
Born in Gastonia, Mrs. Sherrill was
a daughter of Claude F. and Oais Lee Kluttz Miller, both of Gastonia. She was a
graduate of Hunter Huss High School and a cum laude graduate of Appalachian
State University, where she earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.
After retirement from the Alexander
County school system, where she was a high school guidance counselor, she worked
as office manager in the family business, The Garden Greenhouses. She was a
member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include husband John F.
Sherrill III; son Cameron Sherrill, of the home; brother David Miller, Gastonia;
and sister Ann M. Costner, Gastonia.

MOUNT ULLA —Susie Webb Sloop, 85,
died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000)at the Brian Center in Mooresville.
Born Dec. 26, 1914, in Oxford, she
was a daughter of the late William James and Sue Daniel Webb. Agraduate of
Greensboro College, she previously taught at Mount Ulla Elementary School. Also
a homemaker, she was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church at Millbridge.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Samuel McCall Sloop, and a son, Samuel James Sloop.
Survivors include son Charles
Sloop; sisters Dr. Bailey Webb, Durham, and Ruth W. Field, Plains, Ga.; and two

Center, Concord, after six months of serious illness.
Born April 13, 1914, in Brooklyn,
N.Y., Mrs. Stelmack was a daughter of the late John and Mary Consoli Lanzarone.
Educated in the schools of New York, she was a member of St. James Catholic
Church of Concord.
Her husband, Stephen Stelmack, died
in 1981.
Survivors include sons Stephen
Stelmack, Charlotte, and Joseph Stelmack, Orlando, Fla.; brothers Otto Lanzarone,
