Mary Frances Smith Allen
NORWOOD Mary Frances Smith Allen, 58, 613 Claude Lee St., died Friday
(Nov. 24, 2000)at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born Oct. 10, 1942, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Allen was a daughter of the late John Edgin Smith and the late Mary Bost Smith
Brooks. Educated at Kingville High School, Albemarle, she was a former employee
of Collins and Aikman Corp. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norwood.
Survivors include husband Theodore Roosevelt
Allen; sons Theodore Roosevelt Allen Jr. and Steve McQueen Allen, both of
Albemarle, and Barendeal Niquel Allen, Lexington; daughters Sharon Denise
Crump, Burnsville, and Audra Samantha Bowden, Mount Gilead; brothers John H.
Smith, Concord, Russell Hurley Smith, Charlotte, Ollie Smith, Albemarle, and
Walter Smith, Rockingham; sisters Shirley S. Morgan, Georgia Haywood, Carrie
Grady and Verious Hinson, all of Albemarle, and Mildred Smith, Badin; five
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Eddie Lee, pastor. Burial, Barringerıs Chapel Baptist
Church cemetery.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, at the church. At
other times the family will be at the home.

Bertie Troutman Biggers
Bertie Lee Troutman Biggers, 100, Salisbury, died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000) at
Rowan Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health and a month
of serious illness.
Born May 31, 1900, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Biggers was a daughter of the late Rufus Monroe and Ella Plyler Troutman. A
seamstress, she later served as a sitter for local children. She was the oldest
member of Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Her husband, Luther Augustus Biggers, died in
1954.
Survivors include stepdaughter Ailene Barger,
Salisbury; and two step-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Monday, Chestnut Hill
Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Ernest Mullins, pastor, Trinity Wesleyan Church,
and the Rev. W. Lee Cockerill, former pastor. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Hannah Tolbert Reid Bingham, 94, died Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000) at the Salisbury
Lutheran Home after a period of declining health.

Ruth Barrier Brooks
GRANITE QUARRY Ruth Barrier Brooks, 89, formerly of China Grove, died
Saturday (Nov. 25, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after four
years of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born Nov. 10, 1911, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Brooks was a daughter of the late James D. and Maggie Safrit Barrier. Educated
in the Cabarrus County schools, she had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 7,
Salisbury, after 32 years with the company.
She was a member of St. Markıs Lutheran Church,
where she was a life member of WELCA and was active in the Patterson-Wessinger
Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Henry Adams Brooks, died Jan. 8,
1995.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by a number of nieces and
nephews.

Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Gene Bruce, pastor. Burial, Rowan
Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Ruby B. Byrd
LEXINGTON Ruby Burton Byrd, 72, Clark Road, died Saturday (Nov. 25,
2000)at Sunbridge Nursing Care after three months of serious illness.
Born March 5, 1928, in Davie County, she was a
daughter of the late Roy Lee and Hattie Elizabeth Whisenhunt Burton. She had
retired from United Furniture Co.
Her husband, Clarence Ray Byrd, died in 1986. A
son, Danny Ray Byrd, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Roger Byrd, Lexington;
daughters Ann Wishon, Mocksville, Cathy Robbins, Salisbury, and Jean Robbins and
Debbie Leonard, both of Lexington; brothers Pete Burton, Lexington, and Tommy
Burton, Winston-Salem; sisters Callie Hudson, Advance, and Margaret Keaton,
Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Davidson Funeral Home,
conducted by the Rev. Clyde Akers. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Naomi Rivers Douthit
ALBEMARLE Naomi Rivers Douthit, 92, 24724 Highway 52 S., died Friday
(Nov. 24, 2000) at the Albemarle Lutheran Home.
Born July 5, 1908, in Chesterfield County, S.C.,
she was a daughter of the late Miles Vernon and Mary Hersey Gaskin Rivers. A
former knitter, she was a member of North Albemarle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert
Douthit, and a son, David Kenneth Willis.
Survivors include sister Ella Burns Barbee,
Albemarle; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Holmes was a son of the late Wadd and Martha Hairston Holmes. He was a member of
Union Baptist Church, where he was a former usher.

Survivors include wife Mary Tate Holmes; son Reagie Holmes, Lexington; daughters
Helen H. Dye, New Jersey, and Mary Holmes-Martin, Lexington; eight

the Shepherds community in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Loy
Essley "Dude"and Eva Cruse Sipes. Employed with FJC Inc. of Mooresville, she was
a member of Mount Mourne Church of God, Mount Mourne.
Survivors include husband William J. Oates;
daughters Teresa O. Passmore and April O. Cline, both of Mooresville; and sister
Bertha S. Alexander-Head, Mooresville.

Mary Forrest Wensil
NEW BERN Mary Forrest Wensil, 94, formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday
(Nov. 25, 2000) at Christian Care of New Bern.
Born July 3, 1906, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wensil
was a daughter of the late William Tatum and Classie Eller Forrest. Educated in
the Rowan County schools, she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Her husband, Leonard Banks Wensil, died June 23,
1985. A daughter, Peggy Lawrence, and a son, Leonard "Billy" Wensil, also
preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Samuel W. Wensil, Hillsville, Va.; daughter Doris Jean
Fincher, Surf City; sister Betty Basinger, Salisbury; 16 grandchildren; 32
great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
