Nellie Jacobs Adams
SPENCER—Nellie Jacobs Adams, 76, died Wednesday
(Nov. 20, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after one year of
declining health.
Born Sept. 14, 1924, in Rowan County, she was the
daughter of the late Charlotte Livengood and Baxter Lewis Jacobs. Mrs. Adams was
educated in the Rowan County schools.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where
she was active in the Homemakers Sunday School Class. A homemaker, she was
formerly employed at Rowan Cotton Mills.
Her husband, Clyde Lewis Adams, died Dec. 11,
1996.
Survivors include sons Clyde L. Adams Jr. of
Granite Quarry and Bobby Adams of Las Vegas; daughter Barbara Meismer of
Salisbury; sisters Dolly Sigmon of Charlotte, Myrtle Coley of Hollywood, Fla.,
Peg Hall of Candor, N.Y., and Pauline Lenly and Ada Beck, both of Salisbury;
three grandchildren; one step-grandson; one great-granddaughter; and two
step-great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Calvary Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rick Cockerham, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, and
Dr. Don Godfrey, pastor of Dunns Mountain Baptist Church. Burial at Rowan
Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Wade Carlton Beck
MOCKSVILLE — Wade Carlton Beck, 76, Houston
Road, died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born July 1, 1924, in Davie County, son of
the late Charlie and Lydia Beck. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. A
farmer, he also worked for Fiber Industries as an electrician. He was a U.S.
Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by wife Ruth Miller Beck, whom he
married Dec. 27, 1942; sons Donald Wade Beck and Joe Linn Beck, both of
Mocksville; daughter Patricia Karnes of Lexington; brothers Kenneth Beck of
Salisbury, Richard Beck and Claude Beck, both of Mocksville, and Clifford Beck
of Lexington; a sister, Edith Grubb of Mocksville; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and the Rev. Ron Honeycutt. The
body will be taken to the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial, church cemetery, with full
military rites.

Robert Michael Burris
CHINA GROVE — Robert Michael Burris, 50, 140
Beth Drive, died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at his home after a year of declining
health.
Born May 13, 1950, in Iredell County, Mr. Burris
was a son of Doris Jean Eidson Burris, Landis, and the late Robert Lee Burris.
He earned a degree as a bonded locksmith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army,
serving in the Vietnam War and in Germany.
He worked for the Hefner VA Medical Center for 24
years, serving as a building maintenance foreman. He was named supervisor of the
year at the center for the year 2000. He retired Sept. 17 because of ill health.
Mr. Burris was a member of New Hope Lutheran
Church in Kannapolis.
In addition to his mother, survivors include wife
Deborah Louise Thompson Burris; daughter Teresa Ann Martin, Matthews; brothers
Galen and Johnny Burris, both of China Grove; and sister Janet Nekooasl,
Gastonia.

Muriel B. Campbell
MOORESVILLE — Muriel Barnhardt Campbell, 85,
North Sycamore Street, died Wednesday (Nov. 22, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional
Medical Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1915, in Cabarrus County, she was
the daughter of the late Lee Hoke and Nannie Linker Barnhardt. She was employed
at Mooresville Mills/Burlington Industries.
After retirement, she completed a certified nurse
assistant program at Mitchell Community College in Statesville. She worked at
Lowrance Hospital and did private-duty nursing.
She attended Abundant Life Foursquare Church and
the Mooresville Church of God. She was a member of Adah Chapter 258, Order of
the Eastern Star.
Her husband, James W. Campbell, died in January
1968.
Survivors include daughters Helen Campbell
Messick of Mocksville, Nannie C. Peacock of Cleveland, Jimmie C. Cagle of
Mooresville, Patricia C. Klutz of Salisbury, and Martha B. Day of Mooresville; a
sister, Evonne Eudy of Locust; a brother, Archie Barnhardt of Concord; 10
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eva Mae Rymer Deal
CHINA GROVE—Eva Mae Rymer Deal, 86, 2825 Old
Beatty Ford Road, died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born May 14, 1914, in Granville County, she was
the daughter of the late A.M. and Lillie Beaver Rymer. Mrs. Deal was educated in
the Rowan County schools.
Former employed in the sewing room at Cannon
Mills, she was a member of Rodgers Park United Church of Christ, where she was
active in the Wilma Deal Circle.
Her husband, Clarence E. Deal, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughter Phyllis D.
Leatherwood, China Grove; brother Clifford Rymer, China Grove; sisters Alice
Bates and Cora Weddington, both of China Grove; and one grandchild.

LEXINGTON—Ricky Brandon Doss, 46, 300 Pinetop
Park, died Thursday (Nov. 23, 2000) of injuries sustained in a house fire.
Born June 15, 1954, in Rowan County, he was the
son of Elva Hooks Doss Chambers, Salisbury, and the late Duncan Doss. Mr. Doss
was formerly employed with Labco of Lexington.

Fred Larry Easley
ALBEMARLE — Fred Larry Easley, 61, 808 Laton
Road, died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at the Durham VA Medical Center.
Born Jan. 10, 1939, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Easley was a son of Louise Barbee Easley, Albemarle, and the late Robert L.
Easley. A Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a welder mechanic for
American Boiler. He had formerly worked for Thurston Motors and C.L. Vickers.
Mr. Easley attended Charity Baptist Church and
was a member of AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign
War.
In addition to his mother, survivors include wife
Norma Jean Burris Easley; daughters Lori A. Easley and Donna B. Hiner, both of
Concord; stepdaughters Diane Honeycutt, Albemarle, and Sheila Hinson,

Maggie Terry Lee
ALBEMARLE — Maggie Terry Lee, 90, 806 Summit
Ave., died Friday (Nov. 24, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 10, 1910, in Union County,
where she attended the public schools. She was a member of Saints Delight
Church, where she was a past president of the Missionary Circle and a member of
the ministerial staff.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lee;
foster son Ernest Morrison of Albemarle; stepsons Eugene Lee of Charlotte,
Thomas Lee Jr. of Norwood, Donald Lee of Albemarle and Michael Lee of
Kannapolis; stepdaughters Sarah L. Chatman of Brooklyn, N.Y., Janet L. Little of
Albemarle and Dorothy McKenney of Kannapolis; and a sister, Ida Bell Bennet of
Marshville.

Helen Hoffner Walser
Helen Elizabeth Hoffner Walser, 57, Salisbury,
died Thursday (Nov. 23, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center,
Winston-Salem, after 15 months of declining health.
Born Aug. 3, 1943, in Rowan County, Mrs. Walser
was a daughter of Nathan Ernest Hoffner, Salisbury, and the late Helen Elizabeth
Sydes Hoffner.
A 1961 graduate of Boyden High School, she also
attended Appalachian State University. She earned an associate degree in
carpentry and cabinetmaking at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. A homemaker,
she was a certified substitute teacher with the Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
Mrs. Walser was a member of First United Church
of Christ and a former member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Also a
former member of Spencer Jaycettes, she was a former Girl Scout, Cub Scout
leader and den mother.
She was a former recipient of Salisbury’s
Outstanding Young Woman Award. She was formerly active in the Erwin Eagles
Booster Club and the East Rowan Band and Booster clubs.
In addition to her father, survivors include
husband John Dalton Walser, whom she married Jan. 25, 1964; son John Dalton
Walser Jr., Salisbury; daughters Elizabeth “Lisa” Ann Walser, Lake City,
S.C., and Virginia Lynne “Ginny” Johnson, Wilmington; brother Nathan Hoffner
Jr., Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister Anne Smith, Willow Spring; and two
grandchildren.

was the daughter of Virginia Lamb Pippin, Nashville, Tenn., and the late Earl
Moore. Mrs. Winburn was a homemaker.
