Here’s something else to be grateful for: Salisbury and Rowan County governments appear poised to take a historic step together by extending water service to Carolina Power & Light’s new plant in western Rowan.

The joint venture may also extend water to the parched communities of China Grove, Landis and Kannapolis.

City Manager David Treme brought City Council up to date Tuesday, reporting that “a new era of cooperation”could be coming. Though he provided no details —those apparently may come in or after a joint meeting between city and county —he said a city-county deal is moving right along.

This is tremendous good news. With the city and county working as a team, this area is in a much stronger position — and not just for expanding water service.
