86, 9500 Shore Drive, Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000)at Grand
Stand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Born Aug. 7, 1914, in Parksville,
Tenn., Mr. Adkins was a son of the late James Lewis and Ella Lucinda Belk
Adkins. A retired owner and operator of Highway 52 Curb Market, Albemarle, He
was a Mason, a member of Yadkin Falls Lodge 637, Badin.
His wife, Edith Morton Adkins,
died July 8, 1999.
Survivors include daughters
Billie Ann Barker, Cary, Edith Cavell Cole, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Beverly Morton
Shue, Albemarle and Jane Cole, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother Wade L. Adkins,
Albemarle; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Charles “Chuck”Woodrow
Campbell, 69, 970 Briggs Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 21, 2000) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center.
Born July 11, 1931, in Cooleemee,
Mr. Campbell was a son of the late Preston Clifford and Pearlie Almeda Patton
Campbell. Educated in Davie County, Mr. Campbell was employed by E.M. Goodman
&Son Construction for 19 years. He retired from Department of Labor
Apprenticeship Department after 26 years. A member of Salem Lutheran Church, he
served on church council. He was a life member of Rowan County Rescue Squad,
serving as assistant chief, on the EMS Advisory Board and was commander of N.C.
Association of Rescue Squads 1968-1970.
A daughter, Donna Lee Campbell,
died in 1955.
Survivors include wife Judi
Yarbrough Campbell; daughters Mary Lynn Campbell Cooper, Smithsburg, Md., and
Kathy Sue Campbell Smith, Salisbury; stepdaughter Julia Katherine Sprague,
Metamora, Mich.; brother James M. Campbell, Greenville; sisters Lois Page,
Williamsburg, Va., and Louis Aldridge, Rapid City, S.D.; and four grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday,

ALBEMARLE —Doris Dwan Dunevant,
76, 219 Austin St., died Tuesday (Nov. 21, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born April 29, 1924, in London,
England, Mrs. Dunevant was a daughter of the late William and Emma Allen Dwan.
She was a volunteer with Stanly County Clothing Closet and member of Women’s
Army Air Force, England. She was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church,
where she was a Sunday school teacher, active in mission work and vacation Bible
school and a member of Happiness Club.
She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Cindy Dunevant.
Survivors include husband the
Rev. J. Clifton Dunevant; sons Paul Dunevant, Hartsville, S.C., and Lindsey
Dunevant, Albemarle; daughters Jo Angelina Cooke, Albemarle, Deborah Mitchell,
Monroe, and Cindy Dunevant, Locust.

Ira Louis ‘Dog’ Harris
LEXINGTON —Ira Louis
“Dog”Harris, 67, 1330 Feezor Road, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 2000)at Rowan
Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Southmont,
he was a son of the late Delos and Earline Ann Adderton Harris. Educated at
Dunbar High School, Lexington, he attended Livingstone College and mortuary
school in New York. He was a salesman with Kraft Sealtest Foods and owned Harris
Superette. A former employee of Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, he was a U.S.
Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and
founder of Dunbar High School reunion.
Survivors include companion
Geneva Scott, of the home; daughter Debra L. Harris, Cleveland, Ohio; sister
Dothula Hargrave, Bishop, Va.; and one grandchild.
Services: Noon Friday, Union

ALBEMARLE — Rosemary Koontz
Harwood, 82, 244 Concord Road, died Monday (Nov. 21, 2000) at Britthaven of
Charlotte.
Born Nov. 10, 1918, in North
Dakota, Mrs. Harwood was a daughter of the late John Koontz. A graduate of
Indiana State University, she was a retired school teacher. She was a member of
Main Street United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
Her husband, Macon Alexander
Harwood, died May 20, 1979.
Survivors include son Philip
Harwood, Albemarle; brother John Koontz Jr., Conneaut, Ohio; sister Beatrice
Kelley, Washington, D.C.; and one granddaughter.

Readling, 69, Tamaron Drive, died Monday (Nov. 20, 2000) at Moses Cone Hospital
following a brief illness.
Born April 21, 1931, in Cabarrus
County, Mr. Readling was a son of the late Zebulon and Mattie Gray Readling. He
retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years and was a member of
Centenary United Methodist Church.

and Susan Osmann, Matthews, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

County, Mr. Shoaf was a son of the late Frederick Mondlen and Mary Etta Fritts
Shoaf. He retired from Davidson County Schools and had been a farmer. He was a
member of Cotton Grove United Methodist Church.

Curtis Watkins, 48, formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 2000)at his
residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Salisbury,
Mr. Watkins was a son of Ollie J. and Louise Wyatt Watkins of Satellite Beach,
Fla. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years. He was a heavy equipment operator
for Brevard County School Board in Cocoa, Fla.

parents, include brothers Roger D. Watkins, Port St. John, Fla., and Scotty
Watkins, Huntersville, Ala.

County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Alexander and Maggie Sophia
Hileman Deal. A graduate of Woodleaf High School, she retired from Cannon Mills.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Paul Clay Wilhelm,
died April 7, 1983.
