Zelma Lee Shuford Alston

GRANITE QUARRY —The funeral will be Wednesday for Zelma Lee Shuford Alston, 78, 303 South Oak St., who died Friday (Nov. 17, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after several years of declining health.

Services:3 p.m. Wednesday, White Rock AME Zion Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by the Rev. William Gullick, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge.

 

Sammy M. Andrew Bringle

KANNAPOLIS —Sammy Monte Andrew Bringle, 17, 403 East 11th St., died Saturday (Nov. 18, 2000)at his residence.

Born Aug. 31, 1983, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of Gary Monte Bringle Jr., Kannapolis, and Robin Grass Gosnell, Raleigh. He was a senior at A.L. Brown High School, where he was active in the Jr. ROTC and the Drama Club. He was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Youth Group and he worked part time at Martin’s Drugstore.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include stepmother Rachel Bringle, Kannapolis; half brother Christian Pittmon, Kannapolis; grandparents Gary and Anita Bringle, both of Kannapolis, and Virginia Wright, China Grove; stepgrandparents Charles and Patricia Ball, West Virginia.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Autrey. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Graveside rites conducted by the A.L. Brown ROTC Honor Guard.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials:North Kannapolis United Methodist Youth Group, 1307 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

 

Linus Giles Goodman Jr.

Linus Giles Goodman Jr., 80, of Salisbury, longtime associated with Goodman Lumber Company and a community leader, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1920, in Salisbury, Mr. Goodman was a son of the late Linus and Carrie Anna Lingle Goodman. A graduate of Boyden High School, North Carolina State University and the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Md., he also operated L. Giles Ltd. Antique Gallery until his retirement.

Mr. Goodman was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in many civic and social affairs. He was a member and past president of the local Kiwanis Club and was an early supporter and fund-raiser during the Piedmont Players. He also served in the U.S. Navy in Charleston, S.C., as a Lt. JG during World War II.

Survivors include wife Katherine Goodman; sons Giles Goodman, Salisbury, and Greg Goodman, Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Services:3 p.m. Tuesday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Sachtleben.

Visitation:The family will be at the home of Giles Goodman, 104 Wheaton Court.

Memorials:Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association, 116 Haddon Ave., Suite D., Haddenfield, NJ 08033; or St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 West Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Lula Rives Moore

Lula Rives Moore, 85, 820 Klumac Road, died Monday (Nov. 20, 2000)at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Marie Caton Shoaf

CONCORD — Marie Caton Shoaf, 90, 196 Rosehaven Court, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000) at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis.

Born July 28, 1910, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Shoaf was a daughter of the late June Alex and Miriam Draughon Caton. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Shoaf was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Bays Shoaf, and a son, Harold Steven Shoaf.

Survivors include son Milton Bays Shoaf, Jr., Salisbury; daughter Sylvia Sillmon, Kannapolis; brothers Frank Caton, Concord, and Charles Caton, Kannapolis; sister Mrs. Earl Duckett, Gastonia; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oakwood Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. W. Randall Foster.

Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.

Memorials: Bethpage United Methodist Church, 109 Fellowship Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

 

Evelyn Smith Shoe

CONCORD — Evelyn Smith Shoe, 83, formerly of Brian Center, Salisbury, died Sunday, (Nov. 19, 2000) at Brian Center, Concord.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wilkinson Funeral Home, Concord.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home.

 

Margaret Corriher Shook

MOUNT ULLA —Margaret Corriher Shook, 79, 3170 Bear Poplar Road, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness.

Born July 24, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shook was a daughter of the late John A. and Mae Heglar Corriher. She was a graduate of Landis High School. A Tupperware salesperson for 21 years, she was also employed for the N.C. Lutheran Home for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bear Poplar.

Survivors include husband Melvin C. Shook, whom she married Aug. 8, 1942; son Bobby C. Shook, Mansfield, Ohio; daughter Bonnie S. Myers, Cleveland; brothers Marvin Corriher, Hollins, Va.; sister Mildred C. Goodman, Mooresville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bear Poplar, conducted by the Rev. Milbert E. Kurtz, minister. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:6:30-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials:St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Cemetery Fund, 11020 NC Highway 801, Mount Ulla, NC 28125.
