Ruby Bell King Burleyson

ALBEMARLE — Ruby Bell King Burleyson, 90, 29415 Nelson Mountain Road, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) at the Brian Center of Charlotte.

Born March 23, 1910, in Carlton, Ga., Mrs. Burleyson was a daughter of the late William Sanford and Lucy Amanda Seymour King. A homemaker, she was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Leroy Crowell Burleyson, died Nov. 6, 1999.

Survivors include son Rick Burleyson of Charlotte; brother Robert Jackson King of Georgia; two sisters, Mozelle Gunter and Frances Porterfield, both of Georgia; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Friendship United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrill. Burial in church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

George Lewis McSwain

CLEMMONS — George Lewis McSwain, 81, formerly of China Grove and Salisbury, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) at Clemmons Village Assisted Living.

Born Feb. 10, 1919, in Stanly County, Mr. McSwain was a son of the late Colby Randall and Willie Lee Thompson McSwain. A 1937 graduate of China Grove High School, he had retired from China Grove Cotton Mill. He was also a flight instructor at Swaim Airport in Salisbury.

Mr. McSwaim was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church, Cleveland; the China Grove VFW; several engineering societies; and Fulton 99 Masonic Lodge, Salisbury. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 563rd AAA in Europe.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include son George L. McSwain Jr., Winston-Salem; stepson Terry Thompson, Salisbury; brother Jack McSwain, China Grove; sisters Doris Bost and Louise Alexander, both of China Grove; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. Graveside ceremony and burial, 11 a.m., National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Myrtle Ruth Taylor

Myrtle Ruth Taylor, 78, Salisbury, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 26, 1922, in Love, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lizzie Gregston Taylor. Educated in the Stanly County schools, she was a nursing aide in area nursing homes and did private sitting for families.

She was secretary of the Heaven Bound Sunday School Class at her church, Faith Baptist.

Survivors include brother Lewis Taylor, Salisbury; and sister, Mary Taylor Beam, Aberdeen.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Faith Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Brawley. Burial, Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery, Richfield.

Visitation: 6-7:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Memorials: Faith Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 84, Faith, N.C. 28041.
