Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000)at Concord Nursing and RehabilitationCenter.
Born Aug. 13, 1911, in Iredell County, Mrs. Brown
was a daughter of the late Willis and Jessie Blackwelder Cornelius. She retired
from Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, and attended First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin
Smith Brown, and two grandsons.
Survivors include daughter Brenda B. Freeze,
Davidson; stepdaughter Marvarine Brown, Sherrills Ford; stepdaughter Marvarine
Brown; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; 10 great-grandchildren; and one
step-great-grandchild.

Dorothy Barnette Evans
KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Lee Barnette Evans, 73,
8930 Castor Road, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center,
Salisbury.
Born Oct. 8, 1927, in Coweta County, Ga., Mrs.
Evans was a daughter of the late James Jewel and Jeroline Gaddy Barnette. She
retired several years ago from Cannon Mills, where she had worked for 40 years
at Plant one, number three weave room, and later at Plant four for five years.
Her husband, Samuel Dwight Evans, died Oct. 20,
1998.
Survivors include sons Darrell Wayne Evans,
Salisbury, and Tony Eugene Evans, China Grove; sisters Ruby Smith and Willie Mae
Gillespie, both of Kannapolis, and Sara Frances Mull, High Point; brothers Elmer
Barnette, Landis, and Lee James Barnette, China Grove; and three grandchildren.

Donald Eugene Harmon
AXTON, Va. — The funeral will be Saturday for
Donald Eugene Harmon, 65, 35 Oretha St., who died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000)at his
home.
Born March 27, 1935, in McComas, W.Va., Mr.
Harmon was a son of the late John Wilburn and Annie A. Walker Harmon. He was
educated in the Herndon, W.Va., schools. In 1992, he retired as a truck driver
from Food Lion.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. He was a Baptist.

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for
Pauline Hilburn Reynolds, 81, 1848 Independence Square, who died Wednesday (Nov.
8, 2000) at her home after five years of declining health and a week of serious
illness.
Born Sept. 25, 1919, in Walker County, Ga., Mrs.
Reynolds, a daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Arie Ophelia Cochran Hilburn,
was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church. She retired in 1982 after 38 years
from Cannon Mills Plant 1 sheet department.
Survivors include husband A.G. Reynolds; sons
Jerry and Roy Reynolds, both of Concord; daughters Carolyn R. Galloway and
Brenda R. Drye, both of Kannapolis; brother Hoyt Hilburn, Kannapolis; sisters
Aileen Caster and Betty Harrington, both of Kannapolis, and Derelle Kiser and
Leanese Jenkins, both of Concord; seven grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 3, 1921, in Iredell County, Mr. Simms
was a son of the late William E. and Florida Collins Simms. He retired from
Burlington Industries, Mooresville, after 42 years and was a member of Rocky
Mount United Methodist Church and West Rowan Senior Citizens.
Survivors include wife Opal Overcash Simms;
stepdaughters Jackie Talbert, Catawba, and Sarah Dobbins, Mooresville; two

James Richard Yarbrough
KINGSPORT, Tenn. — James Richard Yarbrough,
2060 Welch Road, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) from Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Rowan County, N.C., Mr. Yarbrough, a son
of the late James Grey and Willie Alley Yarbrough, attended Spencer School. He
graduated from Boyden High School, Salisbury, N.C., and later received his
degree in architecture from Clemson University.
He began his career in the hotel industry at the
age of 23 and worked for Gal-Tex Hotels, Inc. for 25 years. He most recently
managed the Ramada Inn in Kingsport. He retired in 1995 due to declining health.
He received the CHA Certification from the
American Hotel/Motel Association. A member of the Kingsport Rotary Club, he was
a Paul Harris Fellow and was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church.
Survivors include wife Faye Walser Yarbrough;
daughter Marianne Y. Hicok, Olney, Md.; sons James Richard Yarbrough Jr.,
Kingsport, and David Walser Yarbrough, Wheaton, Md.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial Park, Salisbury, N.C.
