LEXINGTON — Kenneth Eugene Asbury, 43, Conrad Street, died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000)at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1957, in McDowell County, W.Va., Mr. Asbury was a son of the late John Ernest and Exiona Hardin Asbury. A resident of Davidson County for 20 years, he was employed with PMI in Welcome. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include sister Lovis Kidd, Welcome; and brother Carl Douglas Stanley, Raeford.

Thomas Price Crisco
DENVER — Thomas Price Crisco, 83, 4794 Little Creek North Drive, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000) at Century Care of Gastonia.
Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Stanly County, Mr. Crisco, son of the late Thomas Frank and Clita Cleo Russell Crisco, retired as a cabinet maker fromSummy Building Systems. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in Gastonia.
Survivors include son Thomas Price Crisco II, Clover, S.C.; daughters Peggy Jo Crisco, Chicopee, Mass., and Priscilla Lynn Touth, Hanahan,S.C.; brother Franklin Delano Crisco, Charlotte; sisters Geraldine C. Shelby M. Hall
LEXINGTON — The funeral will be Friday for Shelby Jean Miller Hall, 62, Carillon Retirement Center, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000)at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born June 5, 1938, in Davidson County, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Liddie Byerly Miller. She was a member of Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Edward Benjamin Hall, died April 6, 1999.
Survivors include son David A. Wilson, Salisbury; brothers Lawrence Miller, Salisbury, and James Thomas Miller, Linwood; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John Nolan Hamrick
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for John Nolan Hamrick, 72, 24 Amy Lane, Taylors, S.C., a former Kannapolis resident, who died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000)at his home.
Born April 11, 1928, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hamrick was a son of the late Charles Erastus and Nona Allen Hamrick. He was employed by Central Motor Lines, Charlotte, for 30 years as a dispatcher, terminal manager and manager of labor relations. He later worked for Consolidated Freight, Rock Hill, S.C., for several years until his 1987 retirement. He moved to Taylors, S.C., in 1987.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis.
Survivors include wife Marie Chapman Hamrick; sons Steve Hamrick, Newton, and Chuck Hamrick, Charlotte; daughter Jan Hamrick Privatte, Greenville, S.C.; brother Norman Hamrick, Concord; sister Nell Hamrick Pait, Charlotte; and four grandchildren.

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for James Ernest Hightower, 55, 230 Acorn Oaks Drive, who died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000)at his home.
Born March 17, 1945, in McDowell County, Mr. Hightower, a son of Dorothy Jean Boyd Hightower, Welcome, and the late Fred William Hightower, was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Indianapolis, Ind.
He was formerly employed as environmental manager at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Linda Carol Neal Hightower; son Joseph William Hightower, King; daughters Shelly Allen, King, and Sabrina Truell, Pinnacle; stepson William Edward Jurney, Low Gap; brother Charles Albert Hightower, Cicero, Ind.; sister Brenda Kay Hightower, Lexington; and nine grandchildren.

John Paul Jones
LEXINGTON — The funeral will be Friday for John Paul Jones, 63, 433 Roger Road, who died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000)at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Born April 27, 1937, in Halifax County, Mr. Jones was a son of Sam and Mamie Bell Jones. He was a graduate of Halifax High School and New York Institute of Technology.
He retired from Engineering at Summit Cable and was a member of New Jersey AMEZion Church.
Survivors include wife Josephine Bell Jones, of the home; son Anthea P. Jones, Greenville, S.C.; daughter Khalita C. Jones, Durham; and one grandchild.

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Lanning
Thomas “Tommy” Everette Lanning, 73, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an earlier automobile accident.
Born July 11, 1927, in Rowan County, Mr. Lanning, a son of the late Walter Addison “Sheriff” and Carrie Clement Lanning, was a graduate of Spencer High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Retired, he was employed with North Carolina Finishing Co. for 46 years. He was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church brotherhood and the choir. He spoke at rest homes, retreats and senior citizens clubs.
He was also a member of the Mount Tabor Nutrition Meal Site, Happy Travelers Club, Gideons International and Lions International. An assistant Boy Scoutmaster, he was a special deputy with the Rowan County Sheriff’;s Department with the jail ministry.
A grandson, Judah Nathaniel Mills, died Sept. 1, 2000.
Survivors include wife Betty Tesh Rumley Lanning; son Robert W. Lanning, Locust; daughter Faith Caroline Lanning Mills, Shelby; stepson Alan W. Mamie Howard Nail
MOCKSVILLE — Mamie Howard Nail, Nail Lane, died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000)at her home.
Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Davie County, Mrs. Nail was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rachel Sanders Howard. She was a homemaker and a member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church.
Her husband of 60 years, Robah W. Nail, died Feb. 2, 2000.
Survivors include son James W. Nail, Mocksville; daughters Ann N. Rich, Mocksville, and Judy N. Howard, Santa Ana, Calif.; sisters Laura Smith and Marjorie Comer, both of Mocksville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Junior Troutman
RICHFIELD — John Junior Troutman, 79, 114 Fisher St., died Monday (Nov. 6, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Aug. 12, 1921, in Stanly County, Mr. Troutman, a son of the late Bill and Katie Crump Troutman, was educated in the Stanly County schools. He retired as a concrete finisher. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
His first wife, Frances Simon Troutman, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Evelyn Owens Troutman.

Harvey Nolan Turner
LANDIS — Harvey Nolan Turner, 76, Landis, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health and five weeks of serious illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1924, in Kannapolis, Mr. Turner, a son of the late Harvey M. and Mary Cox Turner, was educated in the Kannapolis City Schools. He graduated from Cannon High School in 1941 and earned a bachelor of music education degree from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 1949.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and served with the 4th Marine Division as a radio operator in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, including the liberation of Roi-Namur in Kwajalein Atoll, Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas, and Iwo Jima. He received three Presidential Citations for Bravery in the Saipan and Iwo Jima assaults and received an honorable discharge on Nov. 26, 1945.
Mr. Turner was employed by the Kannapolis City Schools music department from 1949 until he retired in 1984. A professional saxaphone and clarinet player, he played with various area bands. He was awarded the Kan-La-Con Music award and was formerly named a Kannapolis Man of the Year.
Survivors include wife Edith Mildred Payne Turner, whom he married June 25, 1949; sons Dr. Harvey Nolan Turner Jr., Raleigh, and Matthew Payne Turner, Kannapolis.

Jim H. Wallace
LEXINGTON — The funeral will be Saturday for James “Jim” Hartsell Wallace, 55, Sowers Road, who died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000)at his home.
Born May 21, 1945, in Davidson County, Mr. Wallace was a son of the late Teddy Roosevelt and Inez Carter Wallace. He was an electrical supervisor with Guy M. Turner and of the Baptist faith.
An avid fisherman, he won two world records for flat head cat fishing and was a member of National Geographic for 27 years.
Survivors include wife Connie Loman Wallace; sons James “Jimbo” Wallace Jr. and James Allen Tysinger Jr., both of Lexington; daughters Christi Craver, Lynn Tunnell and Crystal Spainhour, all of Lexington, and Jametta “Jamie” Mendoza, Salisbury; brothers Bobby Wallace, Southmont, Donald, Larry and David Wallace, all of Lexington, and William “Bill” Wallace, Denton; and 13 grandchildren.

NEW LONDON — Lonnie Lester Whitley, 87, 36984-A Carter Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital,Albemarle.
Born Sept. 14, 1913, in Stanly County, Mr. Whitley was a son of the late Isrieal and Maggie Rummage Whitley. He retired from Wiscassett Mill Co. and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
His wife, Lizzie HathcockWhitley, died in 1972.
Survivors include sons the Rev. Lonnie L.
