Carl D. Beaver

Mary Sechler Beaver

CHINA GROVE — Funeral services will be Thursday for Carl D. Beaver, 84, and his wife, Mary Kathryn Sechler Beaver, 80, of 1315 Patterson St. Mrs. Beaver died on their farm onLentz Road on Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000). Mr. Beaver died Monday (Nov. 6, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles MacMurphy and the Rev. William Campbell. Mr. Beaver will be buried in the church cemetery. Mrs. Beaver will be buried at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Stephen Roy Everhart

The funeral will be Wednesday for Stephen Roy Everhart, 54, 200 Clyde Poole Road, who died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 15, 1946, in Rowan County, Mr. Everhart was a son of the late Roy Kanoy and Jessie Faircloth Everhart. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Employed as a correctional officer at Piedmont Correctional Institute, he attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife Joan Crook Everhart, whom he married June 16, 1982; daughter Tracy Everhart, Salisbury; stepson Steve Brady, Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepdaughter Sharon Wiles, Salisbury; brother Wayne Everhart, Shallotte; sisters Brenda Overman and Carolyn Lyon, both of Salisbury; and three step-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. William Jeffcoat, pastor, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

James R. Lineberger

LINWOOD — The funeral will be Thursday for James R. Lineberger, 47, 488 Helen Young Drive, who died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000)at his home after a week of serious illness.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Richard L. Johnson. Burial, National Cemetery, VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Lissie T. McBride

LEXINGTON — Lissie Tesh McBride, 96, Cornelia Drive, died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000)at Lexington Health Care Center.

Born April 9, 1904, in Davidson County, Mrs. McBride was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Sarah Hege Tesh.

Her husband, James Silas McBride, died in 1976.

Survivors include daughter Virginia Smith, Mooresville; sons James Maurice McBride, Holden Beach, John Thomas McBride, Henderson, and Sam E. McBride, Lexington; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Taylor. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10:15-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Ray Thomas Melton

EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Wednesday for Ray Thomas Melton, 66, East Spencer, who died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Services: Graveside, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, near Morganton, conducted by the Rev. Sy Ponds, pastor, Providence Baptist Church.

Visitation: 6:30-7:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury.

Memorials: Providence Baptist Church, 620 Andrews St.,East Spencer, NC 28039.

 

Willard L. Quinn

KANNAPOLIS — Willard L. Quinn, 85, 308 Melinda Ave., died Monday (Nov. 6, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 28, 1915, in York County, S.C., Mr. Quinn was a son of the late William Lytle and Lucy Wilson Quinn.

He was employed with Cannon Mills Plant 1, towel production department, from 1933 until he retired in 1985. He spent summers working at Plant 1 before becoming a full-time employee as timekeeper in No. 1 weave room in 1933. Over the years he worked as a weaver, loom fixer and head loom fixer before going to the towel production department in 1938. In his latter years, he was a senior member of the department, attaining the position of vice president of towel production.

An active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he was treasurer and served on the finance committee, administrative board and the board of trustees. He was a member of the W.J. Bullock Sunday school class and was head usher for many years.

He was a former member of one of the Y’s Men’s clubs at the YMCA in his earlier years and was on the board of the former Kannapolis Sanitary District for many years.

A volunteer with the Cooperative Christian Ministry since his retirement, he also volunteered in the Nuclear Medicine department at NorthEast Medical Center.

For many years he was a precinct judge in Precinct 4 Box 3 in the Jefferson Park area.

Survivors include wife Elsie Maynard Quinn; son Willard L. “Will” Quinn Jr., Greenville, S.C.; daughter Ann Quinn Wilson, Kannapolis; sisters Rosa Ella Quinn Chapman and Mary Jane Quinn Reece, both of Kannapolis; and four grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman and the Rev. Pat Purdy. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Melinda Avenue.

Memorials: Trinity United Methodist Church, Heating and Air Conditioning Fund, 416 E. First St., Kannapolis, NC 28083.

 

Ethel K. Carter Smith

Ethel K. Carter Smith, 93, formerly of Bringle Ferry Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000)at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation of Salisbury. She had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for 10 days.

Born July 3, 1907, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Lewis Alexander and Mary Jane Kesler. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and attended China Grove Farm Life High School.

A seamstress, she worked for many years at Cannon Mills, Kannapolis. She was also employed with North Carolina Finishing Co. in the sheet manufacturing department.

She was a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church.

Her first husband, Thomas R. Carter, died May 27, 1937, and her second husband, James F. Smith, died July 25, 1987.

Survivors include son Kenneth Lee Carter, Salisbury; brothers Murphy E., Woodrow W. and David A. Kesler, all of Salisbury, and Vance R. Kesler, Seaford, Del.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Providence United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bel H. Campbell, pastor, and the Rev. Harland L. Creech, retired United Methodist minister. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday,Summersett Funeral Home.

Memorials: Providence United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, 6450 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

 

Chester J. Topa

MOCKSVILLE — Chester J. Topa, U.S. Hwy. 64 W., died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000)at Davis Hospital, Statesville.

A native of Utica,N.Y., Mr. Topa had resided in Mocksville for the past 13 years.

Survivors include wife BarbaraTopa; son Bryan Topa, Oklahoma City, Okla.; brother Frank Topa, Messina, N.Y.; and sisters Patricia Major and Victoria Kopack, both of Unica, N.Y.

The body will be cremated.

Graham Funeral Home is in charge.
