Peach Phillips Bryant
Peach Netta Phillips Bryant, 68,
1910 Railroad St., died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at Brian Nursing Center after
several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 19, 1931, in Bear
Poplar, Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Melvin and Katie Douglas
Phillips. She was educated at Bear Poplar School.
Mrs. Bryant had retired from the
Lutheran Nursing Home. She was a member of Henderson Grove Baptist Church, where
she was active in the Missionary Circle, the Senior Choir, and the gospel group
Inspiritual Faith.
Survivors include husband Walter
Bryant; sons Robert Phillips, Jacksonville, David Bryant, Charlotte, and Willie
James Bryant, Salisbury; daughters Etheline Phillips, Salisbury, and Minnie
“Polly” Brown, Charlotte; stepson Walter Bryant Jr., Chicago; brother James
“Shine”Phillips, Kannapolis; sisters Beatrice Gibbs and Daisy Miller, both
of Catawba; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services:12:30 p.m. Tuesday,
Henderson Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Eldridge, pastor,
and the Rev. J.L. Stowe, eulogist. Burial, U.S National Cemetery at the VA
Medical Center.
Visitation: Noon-12:30 p.m.

Catherine W. Caldwell
The funeral for Catherine Waiters
Caldwell, 77, 612 W. Liberty St., will be Monday. Mrs. Caldwell died Monday
(Oct. 30, 2000) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center after a period of declining
health.
Born Dec. 22, 1923, in Salisbury,
Mrs. Caldwell was a daughter of the late Evelyn Little Waiters Howie and the
late Thomas Waiters. Educated at Bear Poplar School, she was a retired domestic
worker. She was a former member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Mrs. Caldwell was preceded in
death by her husband, John Lee Caldwell, and a son, John Edward Caldwell.
Survivors include sons Henry,
Palmer A. and James R. Caldwell, all of Salisbury; daughter Mae “Kitty”
Riley, Middletown, Conn.; sisters Nevolia “Tootsie” Caldwell, Ethel Mae
Waiters and Beatrice Morgan, all of Salisbury; six grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
Services:1 p.m. Monday, Noble
&Kelsey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Clawson. Burial, U.S.
National Cemetery.
Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Monday, at
the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of a son, James

916 Klondale Ave., died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.

Jessie D. Lowery
Jessie D. Lowery, 68, 712
Pinehurst St., died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte,
after one day of illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1932, in Crawford,
Miss., Mr. Lowery was a son of the late Matthew B. and Molly York Lowery.
Educated in the public schools of Crawford, he was a retired gunnery sergeant
with the U.S. Marine Corps. After his retirement, he worked as a general
electrician.
A member of Gethsemane Baptist
Church, Mr. Lowery served as a deacon and director of the New Members Church. He
was a member of the Spiritual Chorus and the Pastor’s Aid.
He was also a member of J.C.
Price American Legion Post No. 107 and a former member of the Laymen’s League.
His first wife, Barbara Ann
Lowery, died in 1983.
Survivors include wife Jean
Massey Wood Lowery; son Bobby Lowery, Philadelphia, and James Jackson, Columbus,
Miss.; daughters Battina Lowery, Salisbury, and Sarah Ann Lowery, Eastern, Md.;
stepsons Richard Wood, Greensboro, and Rodney Wood, Salisbury; stepdaughter
Dorothy Wood, Winston-Salem; brother George Lowery, Crawford, Miss.; sisters
Lena Flowers and Arlelia Petterson, both of Detroit, Rosie Lyde, Columbus,
Mich., and Charlean Wilson, Louise May, Theresa Colbert and Annie Stallings, all
of Crawford, Miss.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday,
Gethsemane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Stowe, pastor. Burial, 11
a.m. Wednesday, National Cemetery, with military rites by the Salisbury-Rowan
Veterans Council.

Gerald Dean McKnight
CHINA GROVE —Gerald Dean
McKnight, 67, 709 Miller St., died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000) at his residence
after a period of declining health.
Born July 11, 1933, in Rowan
County, Mr. McKnight was a son of the late Banks Preston and Maude Nance
McKnight. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a retired nursing
assistant at the Hefner VA Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the
Korean War and a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Vernice
Woodie McKnight; brothers Collis R. McKnight, Kannapolis, B.R. McKnight, China
Grove, and Dweard “Nick”McKnight, Houston, Texas.

ALBEMARLE — Lucille Curlee
Nash, 67, 532 Catalina Drive, died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000) at NorthEast Medical
Center, Concord.
Born June 19, 1933, in Stanly
County, Mrs. Nash was a daughter of the late James Baxter and Nancy Morton
Curlee. A retired office manager with James R. Tice Co., she was a member of
West Albemarle Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nash was preceded in death
by her husband, Finton Nash.
Survivors include son David
Michael Nash, Albemarle; and two granddaughters.
