Brenda Cauthen Adams

CHARLOTTE — Brenda Louise Cauthen Adams died Tuesday (Oct. 31, 2000)in Charlotte.

Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home,Statesville, is in charge.

 

Hazel ‘Juanita’ Anderson

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for Hazel “Juanita” Efird Anderson, 72, Rockwell, who died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after six months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born July 21, 1928, in Stanly County, Mrs. Anderson was a daughter of Bertha Huneycutt Efird of Rockwell and the late Spencer Hezekiah Efird. She was educated at Richfield High School and Rockwell High School.

Retired from Templon Mills, Mooresville, she was a Baptist.

Her husband, Wilson McKinley Anderson, died Dec. 28, 1989, and a son, Larry Eugene Fisher, diedSept. 21, 1970.

Survivors include sons Donald Fisher, Hartsville, S.C., and Marty W. Anderson, Faith; daughters Diane A. Vanhoy, Rockwell, and Phyllis King, Cassatte, S.C.; brothers John Wayne and Kenneth Efird, both of Rockwell, and Spencer Junior Efird, Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Bible Missionary Baptist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Hoffner, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home.

 

Ruby Caldwell Baker

MOORESVILLE — Ruby Dane Caldwell Baker, 84, 212 S. Church St., died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000)at Spencer Healthcare.

Born Feb. 11, 1916, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Baker was a daughter of the late Ross and Mary Sherrill Caldwell. She was a textile spinner.

Her husband, James “Monk” Baker, died in 1964.

Survivors include sons Steve Caldwell, Dacula,Ga., Mitchell Kennerly and Paul Baker, both of Mooresville; sisters Joyce Swicegood and Seritta Little, both of Cornelius, Wrenn Fry, Charlotte, and Alma Crews, Troutman; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Glenwood Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Hal Greene and the Rev. Dave Davis.

Visitation: 6-8:30 tonight, Neill Funeral Home.

James Elbert Christy

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for James Elbert Christy, 71, 604 Shue Road, who died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center, Concord.

Born April 10, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Christy, a son of the late George W. and Lucy Williams Christy, was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church, Kannapolis. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after 28 years.

His wife, Margaret Weast Christy, died Jan. 18, 1997.

Survivors include sons James E. Christy Jr., Salisbury, and Barry E. Christy, China Grove; sister Peggy Brown, Kannapolis; brother William David Christy, Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Lane Street Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Greg Pierce. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.At other times the family will be at the home on Shue Road.

 

Lolene Walton Corriher

SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Lolene Walton Corriher, 94, Spencer, who died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 16, 1906, in Davidson County, Mrs. Corriher was a daughter of the late George Henry and Mary Grubb Walton. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired, she was a seamstress with Rickman Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Alexander Corriher, and sons, John Dermont and James Arnold Corriher.

Survivors include sisters Irma Walton Wilhelm, Spencer, Audrey Walton Beaver, Kannapolis, Beulah Walton Parks, Macon, Ga., and twin sister Olene Walton Watson, Spencer; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Calvary Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Kraft. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter-in-law Peggy Corriher, Salisbury.

Floyd Charles Crisco

ALBEMARLE — Floyd Charles Crisco, 74, 1522 Hickory Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000)at his home.

Born Nov. 16, 1925, in Stanly County, Mr. Crisco was a son of the late Charlie Connard and Ellen Louise Harrington Crisco. A self-employed painting contractor, he was a member of Gleaning Mission Church, Oakboro.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer Escort 347. He was a member of Stanly County VFW.

Survivors include wife Mary Ruth Austin Crisco; daughters Sybil C. Apsega, Monroe, and Marilyn Snuggs, Albemarle; sons Eugene Crisco, Biscoe, and Jerry Lee Crisco, Albemarle; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, HartsellFuneral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steve Barbee. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory. Military rites by Stanly County DAV.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Hickory Ave.

Pauline Anderson Kerley

COOLEEMEE — The funeral is today for Pauline Anderson Kerley, 75, Grove Street, who died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000)at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Davie County, Mrs. Kerley was a daughter of the late Hugh and Beulah Creason Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Cooleemee.

Survivors include sons Steve and Ronnie Kerley, both of Cooleemee; brothers Harvey Anderson, Long Beach, and Garland Paul Anderson, Mocksville; and sister Inell McClamrock, Mocksville.

Services: 1 today, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stewart and Robert Creason. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Jessie D. Lowery

Jessie D. Lowery, 68, 712 Pinehurst St., died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Joel Manly Lucas

Joel Manly Lucas, 69, 439 Pinewood Ave., died Friday (Nov. 3, 2000)at his home.

Rhonda Goodman Martin

MOORESVILLE — Rhonda Goodman Martin, 30, Quail Hill Drive, died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000).

Benjamin Lee Washington

NEW LONDON — Benjamin Lee Washington, 53, 44457 Field Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at his home.

Born May 20, 1947, in Stanly County, Mr. Washington was a son of Lovie Polite Washington, Badin, and the late Bennie Washington. He was a graduate ofWest Badin High School, Badin, and attended Winston-Salem State University, Winston-Salem, Livingstone College, Salisbury, and Stanly Community College.

He retired as environmental health supervisor for Stanly County Health Department, Albemarle, after 27 years. A member of Church of the Living God, Badin, he was a deacon and trustee. He was a former member of West Badin Concert Choir, Badin, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife MerilynDavis Washington; daughters Avis Washington Smith, Badin, Davida Washington, of the home, Detra Watkins, Raleigh, and Tamara Little, Mount Gilead; brothers Bennie Washington Jr., Bishop Roy Washington and Bishop James Washington, all of Badin; sister Vera M. McLendon, Badin; and one grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Badin, conducted by the Rev. David L. Thompson, pastor, and Bishop Gerald Brown. Burial, Greater Mount Zion Church cemetery, Albemarle.

Visitation: The family will be at the home on Field Road.
