Nellie Shoaf Alexander

LEXINGTON — Nellie Shoaf Alexander, 90, 688 N.C. Highway 150, died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at Britthaven of Davidson, Thomasville.

Born Feb. 28, 1910, in Davidson County, Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Junius Harper and Malinda Jane Snider Shoaf. A lifelong resident of Davidson County, she was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class. She had retired from Catawba Window and Sash in 1976.

Her husband, Charles C. Alexander, died in 1972. She was preceded in death by sons Donald Gray Alexander, Charles Beverly Alexander and Alden Bryce Alexander; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters Malinda A. Walser, Frances A. Walker and Mollie A. Lawson, all of Lexington; son Bruce “Pete” Alexander, Lexington; brothers Gray Shoaf, Lexington, and Howard Shoaf, Flagstaff, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Friendship United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Randy Lucas. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on N.C. Highway 150.

Howard Thomas Beck

COOLEEMEE — Howard Thomas Beck, 61, Center Street, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at his home.

Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

William Burney, 71, 528 S. Clay St., died Friday (May 26, 2000) at his home.

Warren Coleman Carter

MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Saturday for Warren Coleman “Speedy” Carter, 65, North Main Street, who died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at his home.

Born March 4, 1935, in Davie County, Mr. Carter was a son of the late Sam and Nezzie Sheets Carter. He had retired from Lexington Furniture after 29 years and was a member of Cornatzer Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Cleo Smith Carter; brothers Frank Carter, Lexington, and the Rev. Aaron Carter, Mocksville; and sister Willie Mae Jones, Mocksville.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Cornatzer Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Elmer Day, the Rev. B.A. Carroll and the Rev. Richard Whiteheart. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Kuhn Clark

RALEIGH — Elizabeth Kuhn Clark, 84, 1220 Hedgelawn Road, formerly of Albemarle, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at Wake Medical Center.

Born Feb. 25, 1916, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Marcellus and Ann Marriott Kuhn. She was a homemaker and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Albemarle.

Her husband, Edwin Harrison Clark, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Edwin Harrison Clark Jr., Wilmington; brother Marcellus Kuhn; sister Marion Kuhn; three grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Sunday, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Robert Yandell.

Visitation: 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

 

David M. Harris

David M. Harris, 68, Salisbury, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Olena Sifford Howell

Olena Sifford Howell, 74, Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury, died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at the nursing center.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

Hazel Cauble Safrit

The funeral will be Saturday for Hazel Cauble Safrit, 87, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, after a period of declining health.

Born Dec. 16, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Safrit was a daughter of the late Lewis M. and Addie Whitaker Cauble. She was educated in the Rowan County schools. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Her husband, James Burton Safrit, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Jimmie “Jim” Safrit, Salisbury, and Carroll Safrit, Cleveland; daughter Jean Lee, Forest City; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Bethel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Reed. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Esther Fudge Sheehan

MOCKSVILLE — Esther Lillian Fudge Sheehan, 77, Mocksville, died Tuesday (May 24, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Lynn, Mass., Mrs. Sheehan was a daughter of the late John E. and Beatrice Holly Fudge. A homemaker, she was active at the Davie County Senior Citizens Center and was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sheehan; a son, Harold Sheehan; and a daughter, Virginia Sheehan.

Survivors include sons John Henry Sheehan, Mocksville, and Paul Scott Sheehan, Oxford, Maine; sisters Ruth Fletcher, Manchester, Conn., and Dorothy Savard, Marblehead, Mass.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Sunday, Davie Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial, Saugus, Mass.

Visitation: None.

Memorials: Hospice of Davie County, P.O. Box 848, Mocksville, N.C. 27028; or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

 

James Allen Vincent

The funeral will be Sunday for James Allen Vincent, 62, 806 Hawkinstown Road, who died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James L. Stowe. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
