Iley Nicole Boggs

Iley Nicole Boggs, infant daughter of Charles C. and Bridgette Willems Boggs of Salisbury, died at birth Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sister Kristen Danielle Boggs, of the home; paternal grandmother Shirley Ann Boggs, Salisbury; maternal grandparents Robert F. and Rita L. Willems, Fort Pierce, Fla.; paternal great-grandmother Stella Guffy, Salisbury; and maternal great-grandmother Florence Willems, Fort Pierce, Fla.

Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Tom Clements, pastor, Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Visitation: None.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Warren Coleman Carter

MOCKSVILLE — Warren Coleman “Speedy” Carter, 65, North Main Street, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at his home.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

 

James Kenneth Gray

WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Friday for James Kenneth Gray, 86, Woodleaf, who died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 2, 1913, in Henderson County, Mr. Gray was a son of the late Oce Slidell and Tabitha Kate McLaughlin Gray. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School, Cleveland.

Mr. Gray had retired as construction supervisor for Southern Bell after 45 years with the company. He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder.

His wife, Arlene Isabel Shuping Gray, died April 23, 1994.

Survivors include sons James R. Gray Jr., Woodleaf, Robert L. Gray, Graham, Joseph A. Gray, Greensboro, and E. Ross Gray, Reidsville; sister Katy Lou Johnson, Cleveland; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. MalcolmBullock, interim pastor, Unity Presbyterian Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Robert C. Holtzclaw

WOODLEAF — Robert C. Holtzclaw, 75, 943 Geter Road, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at the Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Everette A. Lowery

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Everette Alexander Lowery, 51, 130 Meadow CreekDrive, who died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at his home.

Born Feb. 15, 1949, in Scotland County, Mr. Lowery was a son of Cattie Mae Lowery Lowery, Wagram, and the late Henry Belton Lowery. Educated in the Scotland County schools, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was employed as an industrial sewing machine technician.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Toby Sipe Lowery; son William Dutch Lowery, Salisbury; daughter Angela Dawn Lowery, of the home; brothers James Belton and Ronnie MarshallLowery, both of Wagram, Clyde Wilbert Lowery, Laurinburg, and David Lowery, Oakboro; sisters Cattie Mae Cribb, Laurinburg, Bessie Brooks, Oakboro, and Hazel Lowery, Laurel Hill; and one grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse. Burial, Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery, Landis.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Meadow Creek Drive.

Molene Coley Lyerly

Molene Coley Lyerly, 84, Salisbury, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at her home after a period of declining health.

Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lyerly was a daughter of the late Banks and Lizzie Eller Frick. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired from Cannon Mills.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Faith, where she was active in the Mae Tucker Fidalis Sunday School Class and WELCA. She was a member of Faith American Legion Auxiliary.

Her husband, Herman Walter Lyerly, died Sept. 4, 1992.

Survivors include daughter Becky Anthony, Hickory; sisters Anneva Ritchie, Salisbury, and Betty Carter, Faith; and two grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Faith Lutheran Church, Faith, conducted by the Rev.Keith Copeland and the Rev. Judy Copeland, co-pastors. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Lila M. Pulliam

CAMBRIA HEIGHTS, N.Y. — Lila M. Pulliam, 71, 216-18-115 Terrace, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at North Shore Hospital, Forest Hills, after three days of serious illness.

Born Oct. 20, 1928, in Davie County, N.C., Mrs. Pulliam was a daughter of the late William Harvey and Sarah Hones Pulliam. A graduate of Davie County High School, she also attended York College, Jamaica, N.Y.

Mrs. Pulliam had retired as an educational assistant and was a member of Allen AMEChurch, Jamaica, and the N.C. Club.

Survivors include daughter Doris L. Pulliam, Cambria Heights; brother Harvey Pulliam, Mocksville, N.C.; and sisters Jessie L. Hodges, Ruby Peterson and Ruth Mayfield, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., Lucille Pulliam, Mocksville, N.C., and Louise Martin, Jamaica.

Hazel Cauble Safrit

Hazel Cauble Safrit, 87, Salisbury, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Delmar Franklin Wise

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Friday for Delmar Franklin Wise, 79, Rockwell, who died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at his home after three months of serious illness.

Born March 14, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Wise was a son of the late Henry Frank and Ellen Lassiter Wise. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service during World War II. Retired since 1980 from PPG in Lexington, he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Spencer.

His wife, Mildred Livengood Wise, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Delmar Franklin Wise Jr., Salisbury; daughters Linda Shotzberger, Stanfield, and Phyllis Grissett, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother Hobert Wise, Salisbury; sister Mary Carter, Rockwell; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Max Mills, pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Spencer. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.
