Inez Little Black

KANNAPOLIS — Inez Little Black, 90, Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, formerly of Kannapolis, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four years of declining health and six weeks of serious illness.

Born May 8, 1910, in Catawba County, Mrs. Black was a daughter of the late Zeb H. and Beulah Killian Little. A member of Midway United Methodist Church, she retired in 1972 from Cannon Mills, Plant One.

Her husband, Zellie L. Black, died June 5, 1990.

Survivors include son the Rev. Eddie L. Black, Norwood; daughters JoAnn Shaw, Kannapolis, and Nancy Smith, China Grove; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m.Thursday,Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Billy Rintz. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of JoAnn Shaw, 111 N. Rose Ave.

Dwight Randall Boggs

Colonel Dwight Randall Boggs, 48, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, son of retired Chaplain Colonel U.S. Air Force William Gilmer and Peggy Jolene Boggs, China Grove, died of a heart attack on Friday (May 19, 2000).

Born June 19, 1951, in Mooresville, Mr. Boggs was a 1973 graduate of Lenoir- Rhyne College, Hickory. He then attended the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He later graduated from navigator training. Throughout his honorable and distinguished 27-year career, he flew combat operations and served in key positions including squadron commander, group commander and director of logistics, 21st Air Force.

Highly decorated, he received two Commendation Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals and the Legion of Merit.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Teresa J. Boggs; sisters Sydna Shaw, Springfield, Mo., and Karen Wagner, Grafton, Va.; and brother Lt. Col. Kevin Boggs, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

Services: Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial, 4 p.m. Sunday, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, China Grove.

Eva White Childers

KANNAPOLIS — Eva Lee White Childers, 83, 1114 Centergrove Road, died Monday (May 22, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Alexander County, Mrs. Childers was a daughter of the late Henry Marvin and Dorcas Meadows White. Retired from Cannon Mills, she was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Everett Childers, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Belenda Childers, of the home; brothers Lynn White, Statesville, and James White, Taylorsville; and sister Ruth White Smith, Hiddenite.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otis Snow. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times the family w ill be at the home on Centergrove Road.

Mildred James DeMarcus

LANDIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Mildred James DeMarcus, 79, 603 W. Mill St., who died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at her home.

Born Nov. 25, 1920, in Taylorsville, Mrs. DeMarcus was a daughter of the late William Avery and Nancy Lowe James. She was a graduate of Landis High School and Catawba College, Salisbury. She taught at Landis Elementary School until her retirement.

A member of First United Methodist Church, Landis, she was a lay reader, chairman of the trustees and pastor parish, a lay delegate to conference and taught the Friendship Sunday school class.

Her husband, Glenn DeMarcus, died in 1993.

Survivors include daughter Debbie Barlow, Landis; brother Wayne James, Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Barry Sutton and the Rev. Hubert Brown. Entombment, West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis.

Glenn Davidson Foster

COOLEEMEE — Glenn Davidson Foster, 49, N.C. Hwy. 801 S., died Monday (May 22, 2000) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born May 2, 1951, in Rowan County, Mr. Foster was a son of Glenn C. and Dorothy Link Foster, Mocksville. He was a 1969 graduate of Davie County High School. In 1973 he received a bachelor of science degree in wildlife biology from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, where he was active in the Wolfpack Club.

An environmental specialist with the Davidson County Health Department, he was previously employed at the Columbus County and Forsyth County health departments.

He was a Davidson resident since June 1988. A registered sanitarian with the State of North Carolina, he was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sisters Chris Baker, Burlington, and Beth Smith, Rose Hill.

Services: 11 a.m.Thursday,Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Danny Shores. Burial, Legion Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

James Kenneth Gray

WOODLEAF — James Kenneth Gray, 86, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Myra Bowman Hiatt

ALBEMARLE — Myra Bowman Hiatt, 86, 14807 Reap Road, formerly of Dobson, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Born March 26, 1914, in Patrick County, Va., Mrs. Hiatt was a daughter of the late Frank and Rebecca Bowman Bowman. A homemaker, she was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hays Bowman, and her second husband, J.W. Hiatt.

Survivors include daughters Virgie B. Hiatt, Albemarle, Marie Knight, Sanford, and Wavie A. Bates, Dobson; son Harry Bowman, Pilot Mountain; sister Cora Bowman, Mount Airy; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Thursday, Aquadale Baptist Church cemetery, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Robert Ellis.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Reap Road.

 

Molene Coley Lyerly

Molene Coley Lyerly, 84, Salisbury, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at her home.

Pauline Darling Moore

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Thursday for Pauline Marie Darling Moore, 58, 202 Timberfield Trail, who died Monday (May 22, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Oct. 3, 1941, in Shreveport, La., Mrs. Moore was a daughter of Gordon J. and Lorraine Jensen Darling, York, Neb. She graduated from Procto High School in Minnesota. A member of Christ United Methodist Church, she was employed at Wal-Mart, Salisbury, as the stationery department manager.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband William G. “Bill” Moore; sons Scott Moore, Bakersfield,Calif., and Dwayne Moore, Apex; daughters Cindy Williams, Lincoln, Neb., and Debbie Winsor, Papillion, Neb.; brother Jim Darling, Mobile, Ala.; sister Sherry McCord, Friendswood, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Christ United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Scott E. Ireland. Burial, Greenwood Cemetery, York, Neb.

Faye Brown Owens

MOORESVILLE — Faye Brown Owens, 66, 476 College St., died Monday (May 22, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 3, 1933, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Owens was a daughter of the late George and Annie Mae Wilhelm Brown.

Her husband, Clarence Owens, died in 1993.

Survivors include son Robert F. Owens, Mooresville; daughters Cathy O. Greene and Theresa O. Barnhardt, both of Mooresville; brother Scottie Davis, Locust; sister Linda Efird, China Grove; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Barry Beaver and the Rev. Marvin Goodnight. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Elevee Troxell

Elevee Troxell, 76, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro.

Frank Delmar Wise

ROCKWELL — Frank Delmar Wise, 79, Rockwell, died Tuesday (May 23, 2000) at his home.

Bess Ellen Worrell

Bess Ellen Worrell, 72, 125 Lilly Ave., died Sunday (May 21, 2000) at the home of a niece, Kathy Richardson, 1203 Lashley Park Drive, Gibsonville.

Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Cripple Creek, Va., Miss Worrell was a daughter of the late Eugene H. and Laura Frost Worrell. She graduated from the Speedwell, Va., high school and Kanawha Valley, W.Va., Hospital School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she retired in 1994 after 30 years from Hefner VA Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to her niece, include brother Benjamin F. Worrell, Gibsonville.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church cemetery, Cripple Creek, Va., conducted by the Rev. Owen Moore.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home.
