died Monday (May 22, 2000).

Mary Kearns Joyner
KANNAPOLIS Mary Kathern Kearns Joyner, 61, 1308
Debbie Circle, died Monday (May 22, 2000) at her home.
Born April 4, 1939, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Joyner was a
daughter of C.M. and Mentie Whitley Kearns, Kannapolis. A 1957 graduate of A.L. Brown High
School, in her earlier years she was employed by Terry Products Inc.
She retired due to illness in October 1999 from
Pillowtex-Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant 6, sheet department. She was a member of the N.C. Tar
Heel Tolers Association.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughters
Karen Grisdale Bumgarner, Landis, Teresa G. Jones, Kannapolis, and Melinda Grisdale Dabbs,
China Grove; brother J.B. Kearns, Kannapolis; sister Frances Wilson, Ellenboro; five
grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Whitleys Funeral Home
Chapel, conducted by Elder Calvin Harward. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times
the family will be at the home on Debbie Circle.

Frances Thompson Krider
The funeral will be Wednesday for Frances Marion Thompson
Krider, 88, Trinity Oaks, who died Sunday (May 21, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Krider was a
daughter of the late Emmette Gray and Gertrude Wise Thompson. A graduate of Boyden High
School and Catawba College, she was a homemaker.
A lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, she
did volunteer work with the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. She was a member of the Books
and Arts Book Club and Rowan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
Her husband, James H. Krider Jr., died in 1966.
Survivors include son James H. Krider III, Grand Canyon,
Ariz.; daughter Mimi Carlton, Salisbury; brother Emmette Thompson Jr., Salisbury; sister
Gertrude T. Ellis, Salisbury; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Johns Lutheran
Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben, pastor, and the Rev. John Tucker.
Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 5-7 this evening at the home of her daughter at
10 Lawton Lane.

Boyce Ray Yates
KANNAPOLIS Boyce Ray Yates, 69, 813 Oakshade Ave.,
died Monday (May 22, 2000) at his home after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 22, 1931, in Rowan County, Mr. Yates was a son of
the late Jacob Lee and Kitty Bebber Yates. He had retired in 1993 from Overnight
Transportation Co. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include wife Diana Walsh Yates; sons Kip Yates,
Woodinville, Wash., and Robbie Yates, Old Fort; daughter Tammy Yates, Kannapolis; sister
Norma Cote, Green Valley, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitleys
Funeral Home Chapel.
