Richard P. Andrews
GRAY, Ga. — Richard P. Andrews, 64, Gray, brother of H.A. Andrews Jr., Salisbury, N.C., died Friday (May 5, 2000) in Macon.
Graveside services were held May 8 at Riverside Cemetery, Macon.
Ingleside Memorial Chapel, Macon, was in charge.

Carl Godfrey
Carl McManus Godfrey, 82, 145 Wiley Lane, a former Kannapolis resident, died Wednesday (May 17, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after 18 months of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born June 12, 1917, in Union County, Mr. Godfrey, a son of the late Claude L. and Nettie McManus Godfrey, owned and operated Godfrey and Ridenhour Cabinet Shop. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
His first wife, Ella Mitchell Godfrey, died April 20, 1980.
Survivors include wife Merle Gantt Godfrey; daughter Betty Godfrey Cox, Salisbury; sisters Jacelyn G. Pope, Concord, and Blanche G. Lapish, Kannapolis; brothers Charles Boyce Godfrey, Concord, and Arnette and Howard L. Godfrey, both of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gene Frady. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ella Murphy
LINWOOD — Ella Murphy, 87, Hilltop Living Center, formerly of Bryson City, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Cherokee County, Mrs. Murphy was a daughter of the late Leander and Molly Ellis Murphy. She attended Meadowview Deliverance Tabernacle and assisted with sewing and crafts at Hilltop Living Center.
Survivors include son Melvin Murphy, Lexington; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Emma Milam. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at 105 Fowler Ave.

Jim Reed
CATAWBA — The funeral will be Friday for Jimmie Allison “Jim”Reed, 82, 7644 Monbo Road, who died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 18, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., Mr. Reed was a son of the late Charles and Bessie Reed. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of Backus Masonic Lodge 55 in Michigan. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include wife Geneva Query Reed; daughter Karen Njus, Michigan, and Callie Holladay, Florida; stepdaughters Vera Hancock, Kannapolis, Maxine Huffman, Burlington, and Renee Reinheardt, Catawba; sons John Reed and Joe Gordon, both of Michigan; stepsons Henry Gordon, Florida, Jimmy Kerley, Kannapolis, and Bennie Kerley, China Grove; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Concord Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. William R. Taylor. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Dorothy Lomax Ross
KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Lomax Ross, 73, 134 Greenview Drive, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at her home.
Born Oct. 17, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Ross, a daughter of the late Kenny Lacey and Beulah Mesimer Lomax, was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church. She retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Inc. sheet department.
Survivors include husband H.T. “Bo” Ross; daughters Dottie Settlemyer and Brenda Honeycutt, both of Kannapolis; son Larry Ross, Charlotte; sisters Virginia Hart and Phyllis Henry, both of Concord, Mary King Ritchie and Geraldine Harris, both of Kannapolis, and Johnsie Hancock, Mooresville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Leon Smith. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Kenneth Gerald Wall
The funeral will be Friday for Kenneth “Wild Man” Gerald Wall, 52, U.S. Hwy. 601 N., who died Saturday(May 13, 2000) at his home.
Born May 25, 1947, in Davie County, Mr. Wall was a son of the late William Harrison and Elizabeth Smith Wall. Co-owner of Jones Siding and Construction, he was a Baptist.
Daughters Shelia and Elizabeth Wall preceded him in death.
Survivors include son Kenneth Gerald Wall Jr., Spencer; daughters Elizabeth Eason, Sue Davis, Barbara J. Gray and Stephanie M. and Brittany N. Wall, all of Spencer; sister Shirley Jones, Mocksville; and one grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, Mocksville, conducted by Apostle Franklin Mills. Burial, Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Duke Monroe Wilhelm, 85, 6405 Old Concord Road, died Thursday (May 18, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

William Elkin Kluttz
OAKBORO — William Elkin Kluttz, 79, 535 W. Second St., died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Jan. 7, 1921, Mr. Kluttz was a son of the late Raymond and Lula Turner Kluttz. He was educated in the Stanly County schools. He had retired from W.F. Brinkley and Son Construction Co., Granite Quarry. A member of Galilee Baptist Church, he was a former member of the Deacon Board and a deacon and Sunday school superintendent for over 50 years. He was president of the Zion Sunday School Congress, a member of the executive committee of the Zion Sunday School Association and the Adult Class BTU teacher.
Past president of the South Oakboro Action Association, he was vice president of South Oakboro Waste Water Association. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
His wife, Hettie Clark Kluttz, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Paul A. Kluttz, Albemarle, and William Ted and and Dwight M. Kluttz, both of Oakboro; daughter Rebecca K. Broadway, Oakboro; sisters Juanita Breadlove, Minneapolis, Minn., and Oacie M. Kluttz, Albemarle; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Galilee Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Searle, pastor, and the Rev. J.N. Coble. Burial, Oakboro City Cemetery.
Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
