Marvin Boyden AllmanThe funeral will be
Friday for Marvin Boyden Allman, 65, North Highlands, Calif., who died Friday (May 12,
2000) at his home.
Born Oct. 16, 1934, in Rowan County, N.C., Mr. Allman was a
son of the late Harvey J. and Mabel Irene Allman Canaday. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, he had worked in aerospace support technology. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
and the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include wife Betty Harkey Allman, whom he married
Jan. 3, 1955; son Marvin Boyden Allman Jr., North Highlands, Calif.; daughters Sandra
Allman Garcia, Pamela Ann Allman and Phyllis Yvonne Allman, all of North Highlands,
Calif.; half brother Sheriff Robert Canaday, Concord, N.C.; five grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

Shirley Miles Bolden
The funeral will be Friday for Shirley Mae Miles Bolden,
53, 830 Lincolnton Road, who died Monday (May 15, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1947, in Richland, Wash., Mrs. Bolden was a
daughter of the late Artis and Bernice Weaver Miles. Educated in the Richland,Wash.,
schools, she was a nurse with Olsen Kimberly Health Center and a member of
JerusalemBaptist Church.
Survivors include brothers Taylor R., Theartis, Donnell,
Ennis and Curtis Miles, all of Pasco, Wash.; and sisters Opal Andrews, Evelyn, LaWanda and
Gwen Miles, all of Pasco, Wash., Jeanette Sparks, Los Angeles, Calif., Bobbie R. Miles,
Tacoma, Wash., and Theresa Miles, Salisbury.

Gilbert Lourico Brown
The funeral will be Thursday for Gilbert Lourico Brown, 77,
325 N. Oakhurst Drive, who died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at Hefner VAMedical Center,
Salisbury, after several years of declining health.
Born June 29, 1922, in Davie County, Mr. Brown was a son of
the late Guy and Nannie Knox Brown. Educated in the Davie County schools, he served in the
U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed by Yadkin Finishing Co. and had retired
from the Housing Authority. He was a member of Halls Chapel Primitive Baptist
Church.
Survivors include wife Mary Krider Brown.

MOORESVILLE Mabel Baxter Carlton, 76, 560 N. Broad
St., died Monday (May 15, 2000).
Born in Kannapolis, Mrs.Carlton was the daughter of the
late William Houston and Bessie Malcolm Baxter. Retired from Troutman Shirt Co., she was a
member of First Wesleyan Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, FrankCarlton, and
a daughter, Barbara Smith McClain.

CHINA GROVE Jerry William Griffin, 57, 2470 Cannon
Farm Road, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at his home.
Born March 6, 1943, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Griffin was a
son of Margaret Wilson Griffin, Kannapolis, and the late Roy Griffin. Employed by
Pillowtex Fieldcrest-Cannon Inc., he was a supervisor at plant 1 slasher room. He was a
member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was active with the Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by son, James Douglas Griffin, and
a granddaughter.

DENVER Berlie McAlister McConnell, 84, 5400 Nome
Trail, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Lincoln Medical Center.
Born May 25, 1915, in Lincoln County, Mrs. McConnell was a
daughter of the late Lucian B. and Ida Moose McAlister. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Joel McConnell, died Nov. 25, 1995. She was
also preceded in death by daughter Jo Ann McConnell, a grandson and
great-great-granddaughter.

Mary Henley Monroe, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000)
at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.
Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Monroe was a daughter of the
late Spencer Edward and Bernice Henley Burgess. She was a graduate of Spencer High School
and Salisbury Business College. She had worked as a secretary at Salisbury Mills and later
at Cone Mills for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church,
Episcopal Church Women and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of Salisbury
Womans Club and Charity League.
Survivors include husband Albert R. Monroe.

the ashes placed in the church columbarium.

Born Aug. 8, 1934, in Nantahala, Mr. Passmore was a son of
the late Fred A. and Artie Morgan Passmore. An equipment operator, he retired from
Passmore Grading Co. He was a member of Mount Mourne Church of God.

Born Dec. 17, 1947, in Wytheville, Va., Mrs. Ross was a
daughter of the late Thomas Alva and Mary Bridges Bralley. She was a graduate of George
Wythe High School and received a degree in secretarial science from Wytheville Community
College. She owned and operated Art-N-Frames on Old Mount Holly Road.
She and her husband, Harry J. Ross, acquired many exotic
birds.

Cassidy Brown, 80, 5220 Highway 152 W., who died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Concord Nursing
and Rehabilitation, Concord, after two months of declining health and three weeks of
serious illness.
Born May 18, 1919, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs. Brown
was a daughter of the late Zadie and Rilly Eddings Cassidy. She retired in 1982 from
Cannon Mills plant 1 No. 6 weave room, Kannapolis. A Methodist, she attended Boulevard
Chapel in Kannapolis.
Her husband, Colon Taft Brown, died July 22, 1982. She was
also preceded in death by sons Douglas and Larry Brown.
Survivors include daughters Willie Faye Morris,Hartsville,
S.C., and Frances Helms, Concord; sons Joe Brown, China Grove, and Carroll, Charles and
David Brown, all of Salisbury, and Taft Legrand Brown, Kannapolis; sisters Essie Atkinson,
