Walter Reather BoltonALBEMARLE Walter Reather Bolton, 82, of 211 Fifth Ave., New London,
died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
Born Oct. 6, 1917, in Stanly
County, Mr. Bolton was a son of the late Reather and Anna Bailey Bolton. A U. S. Army
veteran of World War II, he was a retired meat cutter.
Survivors include son David
Bolton, Albemarle; daughter Gayle Gibson, Mooresville; brother William Bill
Bolton, Locust; sisters Mary Frances Speight and Johnlyn Poplin, both of Albemarle; and
four grandchildren.

Guy Lynn Deaton
Guy Lynn Deaton, 86, of
Mooresville, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born April 19, 1914, in
Mooresville, Mr. Deaton was a son of the late James Marshall and Zula Cashion Deaton. A
retired mechanic at Burlington Industries, he was a member of Mooresville ARP Church where
he served as deacon and was active in the Mooresville Nutritional Program for Seniors. Mr.
Deaton was recently named Deacon Emeritus at Mooresville ARP Church.
Mr. Deaton was preceded in death
by his wife, Mamie Thompson Deaton.
Survivors include brother Kenneth
Mason Deaton, Mooresville; sisters Mary D. Shuler, Elloree, S.C., and Ruth D. Stafford,

Green, 85, formerly of County Home Road, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at Autumn Care of
Mocksville.
Born March 27, 1915, in
Greenville, S.C., Mrs. Green was a daughter of the late Maybell Rampey and Alfred Terry.
She was retired from Belts Inc., of Mocksville, and was a member of Jericho Church of
Christ and the Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death
by her husband, James Marshall Green, who died in 1979.
Survivors include one son, three
daughters, one brother, and one sister.
Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Eaton

STANFIELD Ellis Hyatt, 76,
8050 Mauney Road, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Union
County, Mr. Hyatt was the son of the late Mattie and Alexander Hyatt and was a
self-employed scrap iron dealer.
Mr. Hyatt was preceded in death by
his wife, Dora Belle Hartsell Hyatt.
Survivors include sons James
Buster Hyatt, Stanfield, and Hazel Lee Hyatt, Mount Pleasant; daughter
Patricia Ann Hyatt, New London; brother James Hyatt, New London; half brothers Paul

Mary Ethel Nance
The funeral will be held Tuesday
for Mary Ethel Latimer Nance, 81, of Brian Center, who died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 19, 1918, in Anderson
County, S. C., Mrs. Nance was a daughter of the late Hester and Rosa Stephenson Latimer.
Educated in the Cleveland, Ohio, public schools, she was a 1937 graduate of Cleveland
Central High School, attended Cleveland State University and was a graduate of Kent state
University, with a bachelors degree in social work. She had previously been employed
as a social worker with the Cuyahoga County welfare department. A former member of East
Mount Zion Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio, she was a member of White Rock AMEZion Church
and the C. J. Shuford Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Sylvester Nance, died
in 1967.
Survivors include sons Donald S.
Nance, Cleveland, Ohio, and Robert T. Nance, Granite Quarry; daughter Brenda K. Johnson,
Granite Quarry; brother Robert H. Latimer, Cleveland, Ohio; sister Louise White,
Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Salisbury National Cemetery.

Anna English Turner
Anna English Turner, 80,
Salisbury, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville after a period of
declining health.
Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Avery
County, Mrs. Turner was daughter of the late Jess and Mary Beam English. Educated in Avery
County Schools, she was employed as a textile inspector for 25 years and was a member of
Morlan Park Baptist Church.
Her husband, John Worth Turner,
whom she married in 1935, died on Jan. 3, 1971.
Survivors include sons Bill, John
and Nick Turner, all of Salisbury; daughters Shelby Peterson, Swannanoa, Lorene Yount,
Norma Brown and Cathy Allen, all of Salisbury, Betty Julian, Spencer, and Mary Jo Jones,
Mocksville; brothers June English, Bakersville, Tenn., Ford English, Tennessee, Stewart
English, Virginia, and Jack English, Marion; sisters Georgia Godby, Cooleemee, and Ellen

KANNAPOLIS - Mary Lamb Puckett,
80, of Clint, Texas, formerly of Piedmont Drive, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at the home of
son, Sam Hall, Clint, Texas, with whom she made her home.
Born March 27, 1920, in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Puckett was a daughter of the late G. R and Veda Lamb. She retired in 1970
from the wholesale food business. She was a member of Jehovahs Witnesses.
Her husband, Charles Raymond
Puckett, died on Jan. 16, 1990.

Gene Blackwelder, 65, of 119 Parallel Drive, Harrisburg, formerly of 427 Union
Cemetery Road, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1935, in Mecklenburg
County, Mr. Blackwelder was a son of the late Lewis F. and Elma Miller Blackwelder. A
retired window maker, he was employed by Allison-Erwin Co. He was a veteran of the U. S.
Army National Guard and a member of Pitts Baptist Church.
His wife, June Windell
Blackwelder, died on July 4, 1999.

and Carl Blackwelder, both of Concord, Bill Blackwelder, Mount Pleasant, and Lewis

KANNAPOLIS Johnsie Louise
Brindle, 77, of Centergrove Road, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at the home of a daughter,
Doris McCombs ofChina Grove.
Born June 11, 1922, in Montgomery
County, Mrs. Brindle was a daughter of the late Henry T. and Rebecca Fry Baldwin. She
retired in 1985 from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills, Plant 1. A member of the
Church of God of Prophesy, Concord, she had been a resident of this area most of her life.
Her husband, the Rev. Lloyd John
Brindle, died on Nov. 25, 1993.
