Barney Barnhardt, 71, 1155 Barnhardt Road, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at
Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1928, in Rowan County, he was
son of the late John Michael and Annie Sloop Barnhardt. He was retired from the N.C.
Department of Transportation.
Mr. Barnhardt belonged to Mount Moriah
Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Johnson
Barnhardt; sons Michael M. and Philip R. Barnhardt, both of China Grove; daughter Sandy B.
Julkowski, China Grove; brothers Marvin H. Barnhardt, China Grove, and Linn Barnhardt,
Kannapolis; sisters Pauline B. Jones and Doris B. Rainwater, both of Kannapolis; three
grandchildren.

ELGIN, S.C. The funeral for Veronica
Anita DAmato, 84, will be held Tuesday in Elgin.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she was
daughter of the late John Francis Gordon and Katherine Kiefer Gordon. She belonged to the
Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign War and Girl Scouts.
Survivors include daughters, Marie Crotts,
Mocksville, N.C., and Stella Priest and Anita DAmato, both of Columbia; seven
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Nellie Green Hanes
MOCKSVILLE The funeral for Nellie
Marie Green Hanes, 72, Livingston Road, will be held Tuesday.
Mrs. Hanes died Friday (May 12, 2000) at
Forsyth Medical Center.
Born April 18, 1928, in Davie County, she
was a daughter of the late Nellie Tutterow and James Burris Green. She retired from Hanes
Hosiery after 22 years. Mrs. Hanes belonged to Smith Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years,
Charlie Craig Hanes; sons Randall C. and Clifford G. Hanes, both of Mocksville; daughter
Cathy Stroud, Mocksville; brothers James C., Bobby G., Kenneth R. and John W. Green, all
of Mocksville; sisters Edra G. Beck, Winston-Salem, Bernice G. Saunders, Mocksville, and
Shirley G. Stroud, Statesville; and four grandchildren.

Virginia Hall Kepley
The funeral for Virginia Frances Hall
Kepley, 88, Oak Island, and formerly of Salisbury, will be held Monday in Salisbury.
Mrs. Kepley died at 12:47 a.m. Friday (May
12, 2000) at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport after a serious illness of six months.
Born Nov. 22, 1911, in Washington, D.C.,
she was daughter of the late James A. and Laura Frances Frick Hall. She was educated in
Rowan County Schools and had been a patient helper for Rowan Memorial Hospital and home
care.
Mrs. Kepley belonged to St. Phillips
Episcopal Church in Oak Island and was a former member of St. Matthews Episcopal
Church in Salisbury. She also was a member of the Salisbury Order of the Eastern Star No.
117, from which she recently received her 50-year pin.
Preceding her in death were her husband,
Henderson Theodore Kepley; a son, Bryan Wesley Kepley; and a daughter, Joyce Diane Kepley.
Survivors include sons Jason Theodore
Kepley, Jacob Nathaniel Kepley and Benjamin Lee Kepley, all of Salisbury, Darius Hall
Kepley, Winnabow, and David Locke Kepley, Tucson, Ariz.; daughter Marion Dolores Nakoff,
Oak Island; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Emanuel Loflin
Emanuel Loflin, 86, Salisbury, died
Saturday (May 13, 2000) at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1914, in Rowan County, he was
son of the late Lawson L. and Pallie Bridges Loflin. Educated in Rowan County Schools, he
retired from N.C. Finishing Co., where he had served as union president.
Earlier, Mr. Loflin had worked for Southern
Railway. He belonged to Coburn United Methodist Church and the Bible class. He also was a
member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 576 AAF & AM. He was a member of
Rufty-Holmes Senior Centers Hall of Honor.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cooke
Loflin, whom he married March 6, 1936; daughter Judy Agner, Salisbury; two grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Coburn Memorial
United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor. Masonic services will
be conducted by the Andrew Jackson Lodge. Cremation will follow the services.

Anna English Turner
Anna English Turner, 80, Salisbury, died
Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Avery County, she
was daughter of the late Jess and Mary Beam English. Educated in Avery County Schools, she
was employed as a textile inspector for 25 years and belonged to Morlan Park Baptist
Church.
Her husband, John Worth Turner, whom she
married in 1935, died on Jan. 3, 1971.
Survivors include sons Bill, John and Nick
Turner, all of Salisbury; daughters Shelby Peterson, Swannanoa, Lorene Yount, Salisbury,
Betty Julian, Spencer, and Mary Jo Jones, Mocksville; brothers June English, Bakersville,
Tenn., Ford English, Tennessee, Stewart English, Virginia, and Jack English, Marion;
sisters Georgia Godby, Cooleemee, and Ellen Sechrist, Salisbury; 23 grandchildren and 35
great-grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE The funeral for Emily Lou
Wyatt, 70, No Creek Church Road, will be held Monday.
Miss Wyatt died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at
Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem following several months of declining health.
Born Dec. 26, 1929, she was daughter of the
late Pearl Mae Craver and Wade H. Wyatt Sr. A graduate of Mocksville High School, Miss
Wyatt retired after 42 years with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She was a lifelong member of
Fork Baptist Church, where she also had taught Sunday School.
Survivors include a brother, John Wyatt,
Mocksville; and sisters Betty Blackwelder, Mocksville, and Shirley W. Hyatt,
Winston-Salem.

John Henry Eagle Sr.
THOMASVILLE John Henry
Eagle Sr., 92, 920 Hasty School Road, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Graybrier Nursing
Center.
Born Nov. 18, 1907, in Rowan County, he was
son of the late George Scott Eagle and Essie Summey Eagle. Mr. Eagle retired from Globe
Furniture after 43 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a charter member of
the Hasty Lion Club and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
For the church, he served as Sunday School
superintendent, Sunday School teacher, usher and had perfect Sunday School attendance for
47 years.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Mae
Weaver Eagle; daughters Carolyn Hughes, Lexington, and Mary Louise Chapman, Thomasville;
son John Henry Eagle Jr., Kingston, Nova Scotia, Canada; sister Janice Marie Barrier,
Salisbury; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
