Jean Alexander

The funeral for Jean Davis Williams Alexander, 62, 1314 Kenly St., will be Monday.

Mrs. Alexander died Wednesday (May 10, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, conducted by Dr. Donald Holness, pastor. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church.

The remainder of the time, the family will be at the home. Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Marguerite Bangle

ALBEMARLE — Marguerite Virginia Bangle, 85, 1503 Sunset Ave., died Friday (May 12, 2000), at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Born July 1, 1914, in Stanly County, Miss Bangle was a daughter of the late Jessie Edgar and Mertie Leah Plyler Bangle. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Ellen B. Harris, Albemarle.

Services: A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today at Fairview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Dan Lyons.

The family will be at the home of her sister at 1503 Sunset Ave.

Hartsell Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Roger Darrell Bunting

ALBEMARLE — Roger Darrell Bunting, 57, 2015 Mount Creek Road, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born April 10, 1943, in Stanly County, Mr. Bunting was a son of Mattie Waisner Bunting, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and the late Edward Glenn Bunting.

He was a self-employed electrician and owner of Bunting Electric Co. Mr. Bunting was a member of Canton Baptist Church and Gideon International, Stanly South Camp. He served as Faith Fund coordinator for the N.C. Gideons.

Survivors include his wife, Treva Almond Bunting; son Jeff D. Bunting, Mount Pleasant; brother Bobby Bunting, Pitkin, La.; sister Jewell “Deanie” Ray, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and a grandson.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Les Schofield and the Rev. Gary Waisner. Burial, Canton Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will at the home.

Memorials: Gideon International, Stanly South Camp, Box 192, Albemarle, N.C. 28002-0192.

 

Victor Raymond Eddy Jr.

KANNAPOLIS — Victor Raymond Eddy Jr., 68, Unity Church Road, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Mr. Eddy worked for Cannon Mills for more than 20 years and later owned Eddy’s Locksmith. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and the Gutter Busters bowling team at Moor Lanes, both in Mooresville.

His wife, Annie Mae Rogers Eddy, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Darrell R. Eddy, sister Martha Humphrey, brother Gordie Eddy, half brother Johnny Sudsberry and stepsisters Joyce Hubbard and Betty Johnston.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Eastside Baptist Church, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. Roger Wood. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery. Visitation: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, Eastside Baptist Church, Mooresville.

Nellie Marie Hanes

MOCKSVILLE — Nellie Marie Hanes, 72, Livingston Road, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Virginia Hall Kepley, Salisbury, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at J. Arthur Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.

‘Dot’ Griffith McLaughlin

MOORESVILLE — Dorothy “Dot” Griffith McLaughlin, 84, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1915, in Gibson, Mrs. McLaughlin was a daughter of the late Thomas Benjamin and Mabel Garrison Griffith.

A bookkeeper with Belk for 35 years, she was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she served as organist and choir director for 53 years and was a member of United Methodist Women.

Her husband, William Harold McLaughlin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons William H. McLaughlin Jr. and Thomas B. McLaughlin, both of Mooresville; brothers Jack G. Griffith, Cornelius, Bill Griffith, Mooresville, and Ben Griffith, Charlotte; sisters Anna Cleary, Mooresville, Eva Cathey, Columbia, S.C., Mildred Sperry, Greensboro, and Mary Lee Smith, Davidson; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Centenary United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert W. Wiseman. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Cavin Funeral Home.

Mary Lamb Puckett

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Lamb Puckett, 80, El Paso, Texas, formerly of Piedmont Drive, died Friday (May 12, 2000) in Clint, Texas.

Ray Rowland

GOLD HILL — Ray Rowland, 77, 1159 Zion Church Road, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center in Concord.

Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Rowland was a son of the late Franklin and Jane Wagoner Rowland.

A member of Mount Pleasant Pentecostal Holiness Church, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Mary, died Oct. 18, 1991.

Survivors include daughter Cathy Honeycutt, Landis; sons Ricky Rowland, Gold Hill, and Johnny Rowland, Albemarle; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Mount Pleasant Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Risher. The body will be taken to the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Gordon Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.

Anna English Turner, 80, Salisbury, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

George W. Williams Jr.

LEXINGTON — George Washington Williams Jr., 84, 500 Western Blvd., died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at his home.

Born March 15, 1916, in Stokes County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Rev. George Washington and Minnie Hudson Williams.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. After 40 years with Bryant Electric in High Point, Mr. Williams retired as vice president of sales.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Holmes Harrison Williams; three daughters, the Rev. Sara W. Jacobson, Chickasha, Okla., Mary Frances Williams, Cary, and Sandra W. Lefler, Greensboro; sons George W. Williams III, Houston, Texas, and David H. Williams, High Point; sister Mildred W. Teague, Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Piedmont Funeral Home Timberlake Chapel, conducted by the Rev. J. Larry Jacobson. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Piedmont Funeral Home.

Mary Viriginia Wooten

MOCKSVILLE — Mary Virginia Wooten, 83, U.S. 64 West, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Rowan County, Miss Wooten was a daughter of the late Ollie Pence and Willie H. Wooten.

She was a former nursing assistant at Spencer Home Health Care and a member of Center United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sisters Dorothy Golnick, Rockville, Md., and Edith Barnhardt, Mocksville.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Eaton Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Wambaugh. Burial, Old Providence Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

Emily Lou Wyatt

MOCKSVILLE — Emily Lou Wyatt, 70, No Creek Road, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. She had been in declining health for several months.
