Tina Almond Aiton

MOUNT PLEASANT — Tina Dawn Almond Aiton, 37, 29257 Lambert Road, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Born March 6, 1963, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Aiton was a daughter of Hoyle Lee Almond, Mount Pleasant, and the late Wanda Dawn Miller Almond. She had been a nursing assistant and a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors , in addition to her father, include husband Edward T. Aiton Jr.; daughter Kayla Dawn Aiton, of the home; and paternal grandmother Eva Miller, Albemarle.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oak Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrill. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home on Lambert Road.

 

Jean Williams Alexander

Jean Davis Williams Alexander, 62, 1314 Kenly St., died Wednesday (May 10, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 30, 1938, in Rowan County, Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Nollie and Alice Johnson Davis. She had been reared by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Johnson. A graduate of Dunbar High School, she attended Livingstone College and Salisbury Business College.

She retired in 1986 from General Electric. She had also been employed at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.

A member of Southern City AMEZion Church, she was a trustee and a member of the Senior Choir, kitchen committee and various other organizations. She was president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include sons Donnie Edward Williams, Salisbury, and Jeffrey McNeil Williams, Anson; stepdaughter Faith Alexander Smith, Hickory; brothers Nollie Davis Jr. and Clarence B. Davis, both of East Spencer; sister Peggye D. Becton, of the home; half brothers Troy and Gilbert Davis, both of Washington,D.C.; half sisters Joyce and Pinky Davis, both of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

The family will be at the home on Kenly Street.

 

Brenda T. Barnes

ALBEMARLE — Brenda T. Barnes, 59, 32171 N.C. Hwy. 740, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Indian Trail.

Born Jan. 11, 1941, in Stanly County, Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late Hubert Collie and Vina Hamilton Tucker. A retired seamstress, she had been employed at Allison Manufacturing Co. She was a member of East Albemarle Church of God.

Her husband, Bobby James Barnes, died June 2, 1993.

Survivors include son Johnathan “John” Graham Barnes, Indian Trail; brothers Larry and Richard Tucker, both of Albemarle; and sister Peggy T. Edwards, Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, HartsellFuneral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Harry Harward. Burial, Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, Richfield.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Highway 740.

Gilbert Lourico Brown

Gilbert Lourico Brown, 77, 325 N. Oakhurst St., died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at Hefner VAMedical Center after several years of declining health.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Erin Dee Carrigan

COCOA, Fla. — Erin Dee Carrigan, 41, 3700 Erie St., died Saturday (April 29, 2000) in Cocoa after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 13, 1959, in Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Carrigan was a daughter of William C. and Betty W. Jackson, Salisbury, N.C. A homemaker, she had attended Brevard Community College. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Donald C. Carrigan; stepdaughters Dana Wheeler, Tennessee, and Faith Ann Carrigan, Cocoa, Fla.; and brothers Martin J. and Willard C. Jackson, both of Melbourne.

Father John Southern conducted services 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Salisbury,N.C. The body was cremated and the ashes placed in the St. Luke Columbarium.

North Brevard Funeral Home, Titusville, Fla., was in charge.

 

Cecil Mae Deal

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Cecil Mae Elder Deal, 84, 1285 W. A Street, who died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Big Elm Nursing Center after two years of declining health.

Born March 14, 1916, in Alexander County, Mrs. Deal was a daughter of the late Earl Lee and Virgie Belle Deal Elder. She had been a homemaker and member of Grace Covenant Church.

Her husband, Edward Paul Deal, died Dec. 18, 1976.

Survivors include son James Deal, High Springs, Fla.; sisters Betty Wensil, China Grove, and Ruby McGuire, Kannapolis; brother Walter J. Elder, China Grove; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Grace Covenant Church, conducted by the Rev. Glynn E. Weatherby Jr. Burial, 3 p.m. Saturday, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Alexander County.

Visitation: 6-7 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home.

 

Viola Clodfelter Epley

LEXINGTON — Viola Mae Clodfelter Epley, 86, 203 Peacock Ave., died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born July 3, 1913, in Davidson County, Mrs. Epley was a daughter of the late Arthur Travis and Emma Katherine MortonClodfelter. A lifelong resident of Davidson County, Mrs. Epley was formerly employed by Erlanger Mills. She had been a homemaker.

Her husband, Garland L. Epley, died Dec. 20, 1976.

Survivors include daughters Carol Duncan, Judy Everhart and Brenda Hicks, all of Lexington; sons Clyde L. and Gerald H. Epley, both of Lexington; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Shaw. Burial, Liberty Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Jeff Epley, 294 S. N.C. Hwy. 150, Lexington.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

George Knox Brown

MOUNT ULLA — George Knox Brown, 91, Brown Road, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at his home.

Edna Pearl Gobbel

SPENCER — Edna Pearl Gobbel, 93, Spencer, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Aug. 2, 1906, in Spencer, Miss Gobbel was a daughter of the late Alfred Tilden and Daisy Sophia Simeson Gobbel. She was a graduate of Spencer High School and Catawba College, Salisbury. A teacher, she taught fourth grade in Spencer for 44 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority and Spencer Women’s Club. She was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a teacher and served on various boards.

Survivors include brothers Harry and Howard Gobbel, both of Spencer.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Irma Gunnell Gray

MOORESVILLE — Irma Gunnell Gray, 85, Shearers Road, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 7, 1914, in Iredell County, Mrs. Gunnell was a daughter of the late Oscar Lamont and Dallie Lee Gunnell. A homemaker and seamstress, she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Mount Ulla, where she was in the United Methodist Women and Mary Horton Bible Class.

Her husband, Robert Lee Gray, died Sept. 3, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a grandson.

Survivors include daughters Myrtis G. Jolly and Perma G. Brown, both of Mooresville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Centenary United Methodist Church, Mount Ulla, conducted by the Rev. Robert Wiseman. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Cavin Funeral Home.

Mary Latimer Nance

Mary Latimer Nance, 81, Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Nellie Mills Patterson

CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Saturday (May 13, 2000) for Nellie Mills Patterson, 95, 220 Serenity Dr., who died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a lengthy illness.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe L. Spears. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Timothy C. Ridenhour

ALBEMARLE — Timothy Charles Ridenhour, 28, 460 Davis St., died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Saints Delight Church. Burial, Oak View Cemetery, New London.

Dennis Lee Summerlin

RICHFIELD — Dennis Lee Summerlin, 41, Richfield, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at the home of his parents, John “David” and Gloria Avinger Summerlin, Badin. He had been in declining health.

Born Nov. 26, 1958, in Shreveport, La., Mr. Summerlin had attended North Stanly High School and Stanly County Community College. He was a member of Badin United Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout. Although disabled for seven years, he had worked as a forklift driver at Allisons Manufacturing.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Carol Whitley Summerlin; sons Neal Curtis Pence and Derek Paul Pence, both of the home; brothers Gary Lynn Summerlin, Mount Pleasant, and Timothy Lane Summerlin, Badin; and maternal grandmother Vera Hadden Avinger, Badin.

Services: Memorial, 5 p.m. Sunday (May 21) at Badin United Methodist Church. The Rev. Phil Jenkins, pastor, and the Rev. Howard Benoy will officiate. The body was cremated.

Henry Paul Talbert

CONCORD — Henry Paul Talbert, 80, 1172 Pless St. N.W., died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Talbert was a son of the late Joe and Tishie Long Talbert. He had retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, No. 5 slasher room. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Margie Love Talbert; sons Earl D. and Ricky L. Talbert, both of Concord; brother J.D.Talbert, Kannapolis; sisters Pauline Troutman and Gladys James, both of Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Coble and the Rev. Steve Davis. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Pless Street.

Nathaniel Tobias Jr.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — The funeral will be Saturday for Nathaniel Tobias Jr., 59, 9203 Doris Drive, who died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at Fort Washington Hospital.

Born May 24, 1940, in Rock Hill, S.C., Mr. Tobias was a son of the late Nathaniel and Eldora Brown Tobias. He was a graduate of Price High School, Salisbury, N.C., and a former member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Retired, he had been a chef at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Survivors include wife Susie Wooten Tobias; sons Nathaniel Tobias III, stationed with the military in Italy, and Tony Brotherton, Salisbury, N.C; brothers Clarence Brown, Salisbury, N.C., Michael and Ronald Brown, both of Albany, N.Y., and Gary Brown, Elizabeth City, N.C.; sisters Ella B. Phillips, Elizabeth Stout, Barbara Phillips, Mary Hall, Bertha M. Cowan, Juanita Redman and SarahB. Brown, all of Salisbury, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, Salisbury, N.C. Burial, 1 p.m. Monday, Mount Enon Baptist Church, Clinton, Md.

Visitation: Noon Monday at the Maryland church.

MOCKSVILLE — Mary Virginia Wooten, 83, formerly of Highway 64 West, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
