Thelma Wilcox Allman

MOORESVILLE — Thelma Wilcox Allman, 79, 370 Leazer Road, died Monday (May 8, 2000).

Born June 7, 1920, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Allman was a daughter of the late Vance Alonzo and Hattie Bell Powers Wilcox. She had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sheet department, after 40 years with the company.

A member of Bethpage United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, she taught a children’s Sunday school class for many years.

Her husband, James F. “Jim” Allman, died in 1998. A grandson also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Mrs. Grady (Peggy A.) Bostian, Mooresville, and Mrs. Buddy (Patricia A.) Johnson, Kannapolis; son Charles F. Allman, Kannapolis; sisters Margaret White, Nona Mae Smith and Juanita Smith, all of Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bethpage United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Randy Foster. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Mrs. Buddy (Patricia) Johnson, 2601 Entrance Ave., Kannapolis.

Visitation: Bethpage United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 109 Fellowship Ave., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081; or West Corinth Baptist Church, 120 Corinth Church Road, Mooresville, N.C. 28115.

 

Doris Bandy Caldwell

MOORESVILLE — Doris Bandy Caldwell, 80, Stoneybrook Road, Statesville, formerly of Culp Street, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.

Born Sept. 8, 1919, in Maiden, Mrs. Caldwell was a daughter of the late William Gaither and Myrtle Daniel Bandy. A retired elementary school teacher, she taught at Rock Springs School, Denver, for most of her 30-year career. She was an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Spencer Caldwell, and a grandson.

Survivors include sons Herman Spencer Caldwell Jr. and William H. “Bill” Caldwell, Statesville; brother Allen Hill Bandy, Newton; sister Margueritte Heafner, Lincolnton; and two granddaughters.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville, conducted by Dr. S. Edwin Lewis and Dr. Fred A. Coates. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Cavin Funeral Home.

Ralph W. Cassell

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. —Ralph W. Cassell, 80, North Pine Road, died Sunday (April 30, 2000), at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center, Columbia.

Born Aug. 19, 1919, in Carroll County, Va., Mr. Cassell was a son of the late John Kemper and Mary Jane Bowman Cassell. A self-employed shoe repairman, he had retired from Fiber Industries in Salisbury, N.C.

He was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church, Yadkinville, N.C. but attended Victory Baptist Church, Columbia. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 in Yadkinville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Bently Cassell.

Survivors include daughters Alice Cassell Mann and Martha Cassell, both of Blythewood; sisters Hassie Turner and Betty Jo Farris, both of Hillsville, Va., and Lucille Edwards, Dublin, Va.; six grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday,Gentry Funeral Home Chapel, Yadkinville, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Bruce Freeman and the Rev. Odell Chappell. Burial, Harmony Grove Friends Church cemetery, Yadkinville. Military rites by Yadkin VFWPost 10346.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Helen Youngs Hauser

KANNAPOLIS — Helen Lee Youngs Hauser, 70, formerly of 1011 E. 11th St., died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at the Brian Center, Concord, after eight years of declining health and three weeks of serious illness.

Born Sept. 12, 1929, in Charleston, W.Va., Mrs. Hauser was a daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Thorne Youngs. She had retired due to ill health in 1975 from Kannapolis Bakery after many years as a production supervisor. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Her husband, Francis “Pap” Newton Hauser, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two nieces and five nephews.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Karl Aschmann. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 108 St. Joseph St., Kannapolis, N.C. 28083.

 

Margaret Brown Nichols

MOCKSVILLE — Margaret Louise Brown Nichols, 74, Liberty Church Road, died Monday (May 8, 2000) at Davie Medical Center-Statesville.

Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Watauga County, Mrs. Nichols was a daughter of the late John C. and Ola Taylor Brown. Retired since 1988 from Burlington Industries, she was a member of Turrentine Baptist Church.

Her husband of 37 years, Hansford L. Nichols, died in 1981.

Survivors include son Linnie Nichols, Mocksville; daughters Kay Koontz and Jeanette Smith, both of Mocksville, Judy Scudder, Winston-Salem, and Joyce Hampton, Mount Ulla; sister Catherine Angell, Mocksville; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Turrentine Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Smith. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Davie Funeral Service.

 

Ruth Allen Terry

ALBEMARLE — Ruth Allen Terry, 75, 1000 Henry Jay St., died Monday (May 8, 2000) at her home.

Born Dec. 18, 1924, in Anson County, Mrs. Terry was a daughter of the late Anderson and Gertrude Bennett Allen. Educated in the Anson County schools, she had retired from Alamo Cleaners.

She was a member of Greater Mount Zion Ministry, where she was a former secretary for the Missionary Circle and a member of the Pastor’s Aid and the Church’s Aid.

Her husband, Marshal Earl Terry, and a daughter, Louise T. Blanding, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Earl Christopher Terry, New London; brother Nathaniel Allen, Winston-Salem; sisters Ruby, Annette and Mildred Allen, all of Albemarle, and Alberta Meachum, Philadelphia,; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Greater Mount Zion Ministry, conducted by Bishop James T. Worthy. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Johnsie E. Walters

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Johnsie Estelle Jackson Walters, 82, who died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after three years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born Aug. 28, 1917, in Lenoir, Mrs. Walters was a daughter of the late Joe Deal and Ella Amanda Roberts Jackson. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Lee Roy Walters, died June 17, 1995.

Survivors include daughter Ella Marlene Story, Cleveland; son Frank Daniel Walters, of the home; sister Floy Cook, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Sutherland. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter at 240 Indian Springs Road, Cleveland.
