Mabel Julia Aull

LANDIS — Mabel Julia Aull, 86, 21 W. Rice St., died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Born March 19, 1914, in Dyson, S.C., Mrs. Aull was a daughter of the late Rev. William Bowman Aull and Mabel Deal Aull. She was a graduate of Walhalla High School in South Carolina and Wittenburg University, Springfield, Ohio. An x-ray technician, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include brother Arthur Aull, Oceanside, Calif.; and sister Rowena Aull Hansen, Phoenix, Ariz.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Virginia Peeler Cartner

Virginia Peeler Cartner, 83, Salisbury, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Fred ‘Bubba’ Duncan Jr.

The funeral will be Wednesday for Fred “Bubba” Duncan Jr., 75, 2170 Grubb Ferry Road, who died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Fort Mott, S.C., Mr. Duncan was a son of the late Fred and Clara Ella Buckman Duncan. He had attended Dunbar High School and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Standard Warehouse, Columbia, S.C.

A son, James Wesley Duncan, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Ruth Rustin Duncan, East Spencer; daughters Minnie D. “Tottie”Hill, of the home, and Velvetta Taylor, Columbia, S.C.; brother Ronell Wine, Columbia, S.C.; sister Minnie D. Jones, Salisbury; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home’s A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel. Burial, National Cemetery, Salisbury. Military rites.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

William Wesley Ketchie

GOLD HILL — William Wesley Ketchie, 77, Gold Hill, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Ketchie was a son of the late John Steven and Ruth Walton Ketchie. A graduate of Rockwell High School, he had retired from Salisbury VAMedicalCenter as grounds supervisor. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and the Hazel Trexler Sunday School class.

Survivors include wife Mary Frances Roseman Ketchie, whom he married June 12, 1947; sons the Rev. William S.Ketchie, Granite Quarry, Larry and Bobby R. Ketchie, both of Gold Hill, and Ronald W. Ketchie, Rockwell; brother Hubert Ketchie, Salisbury; sisters Josephine Troutman, Misenheimer, Ellie Wagoner, Harrisburg, and Lena Beaver, Lexington; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Matthews Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat, pastor, the Rev. Jeremy Magoon, VICA. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials: St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Music Fund, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury,N.C. 28146.

 

Mildred Goodnight Kluttz

The funeral will be Tuesday for Mildred Goodnight Kluttz, 79, Salisbury, who died Friday (May 5, 2000) at RowanRegional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kluttz was a daughter of the late James Crawford and Douschka Correll Goodnight. A graduate of Farm Life High School, China Grove, she was a homemaker and member of China Grove Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Kluttz, who died Jan. 18, 1996; daughters, Cindy Sue Kluttz, who died in 1957, and Karen Melissa Kluttz, who died in 1961; and a son, Burley Ray Kluttz, who died in 1954.

Survivors include sons George C. Kluttz Jr., Charles Lee Kluttz, Don Kluttz and Martin Kluttz, all of Salisbury; daughter Shirley Bare, Salisbury; brother Gene Goodnight, Salisbury; sister Sarah Brawley, Mooresville; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m.Tuesday, Powles Funeral Home Chapel , Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Roger H. Lunsford, pastor, China Grove Church of God.Burial,Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Margie Linder Leonard

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The funeral will be Tuesday for Margie Linder Leonard, 94, Chesapeake, formerly of Salisbury,N.C., who died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at Chesapeake General Hospital after a year of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Born Dec. 8, 1905, in Davie County, N.C., Mrs. Leonard was a daughter of the late Walter W. and Fannie Deaton Linder. She was educated in the Rowan County, N.C., schools. She had worked at Cone Mills in her earlier years and was a well known seamstress in Salisbury, N.C. She was a homemaker and an accomplished pianist. She was a lifelong member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church of Salisbury, N.C.

Her husband, Carl B. Leonard, died May 31, 1965.

Survivors include sons Robert J. Leonard, Salisbury, N.C. William P. Leonard, Chicago, and R.M. Leonard, Chesapeake; daughter Mrs. Warren (Nikki) Holt, Spencer, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C., conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor, Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, Salisbury, N.C.

Visitation: At the graveside after the service.At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Memorials: Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, 901 S. ChurchSt., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

 

Leonard C. Miller

Leonard C. Miller, 72, Salisbury, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Zelma Mack Pickett

Zelma Mack Pickett, 83, Brightmoor Nursing Center, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 13, 1918, in Banks County, Ga., Mrs. Pickett was a daughter of the late Willie and Theora Hill Mack. She was educated in the Banks County, Ga., schools and J.C. Price High School, Salisbury. Formerly employed as a cook at Bames Restaurant, she was a member of Lilly’s Chapel Holiness Church of God Founded by Jesus Christ, Inc.

Survivors include son John Henry Hargrave, Salisbury; daughters Margie Perry and Annie Ruth Rivers, both of Salisbury; brothers Otha and Richard Mack, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters Tartyphine Mack, Charlotte, Verdine Vinson, Salisbury, Jean Mack, Long Island, N.Y., and Evelyn Knox, Cleveland; 15 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lilly’s Chapel Holiness Church of God Founded by Jesus Christ, Inc., conducted by Elder Thomas Clawson, pastor, and Bishop Robert Gaddy. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of a granddaughter, Carollene Gardin, 1614 Standish St., Apt. 3-C.

Johnsie E. Walters

Johnsie E. Walters, 82, Salisbury, died Sunday (May 7, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.
