Fletcher Barger

NEWLONDON— Fletcher Barger, 84, of Lodge Road died Friday (May 5, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Stanly County, Mr. Barger was a son of the late James and Mary Liza Harris Barger. Educated in Stanly County schools, he was a retired employee of Pfeiffer College and the Stanly County Public School System. He was a member of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church in NewLondon, where he was church deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was also a former member of New London Lodge F and AM, Prince Hall Affiliated.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Edwards Barger.

Survivors include sons T.C. Marshal Owens and Leon Barger, both of New London, and Otis Barger, New Haven, Conn.; daughter Doris McElhaney, Salisbury; foster-daughter Phyllis Barger, New London; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, New London, conducted by the Rev. Samuel Cheeks, former pastor. Burial, Parker’s Cemetery, New London.

Visitation: The family will be at the home of Leon Barger, 44420 Lodge Road, New London.

 

Howard Crabb

MOORESVILLE — Howard Carter Crabb, 79, died Friday (May 5, 2000) at Lake Norman RegionalMedical Center.

Born Aug. 24, 1920, in Iredell County, Mr. Crabb was a son of the late James Carter and Ola Dancy Crabb. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Carolina Clowns, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He was a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at Southside Baptist Church.

His first wife, Doris Earnhardt Crabb, and his second wife, Edna Sullivan Crabb, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters Elaine Howard, Cornelius, Karen Crabb, Grayton Beach, Fla., Sharon Nail, Mocksville, and Cathie Crabb, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; sister Helen Pope, Mooresville, brothers Monroe Crabb, Mack Crabb and Bobby Crabb, all of Mooresville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. today, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Brawley. Burial, Willow Valley Cemetery.

Visitation: 3-4 p.m. today, Neill Funeral Home, Mooresville.

 

Annie Stillwell Hill

MOORESVILLE — Annie Lee Stillwell Hill, 76, of Patterson Farm Road, died Friday (May 5, 2000) at Genesis Elder Care.

Born May 23, 1923, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Hill was a daughter of the late Camie S. and Bessie Reagan Stillwell. She was a member and former treasurer of Unity United Methodist Church. Retired from First Union National Bank, she was a 1940 graduate of Long Creek High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nesbit F. Hill, who died Aug. 29, 1996, her son, Francis Wayne Hill, who died in Sept. 1948, and one grandchild.

Survivors include daughter, Dianne Hill, Mooresville; sisters Ruth Masarachia, Mooresville, Jean Miller, Huntersville, Bertha Pridgen, Harrisburg, and Helen Gant, Huntersville.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Unity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Carl Settle and the Rev. Claudia Harrellson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Frank Wallace

OAKBORO — Frank Emslen Wallace, 85, 8764 Swift Road, died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 5, 1915, in Lancaster County, S.C., Mr.Wallace was the son of the late Will and Ila Wallace and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired Wells Fargo guard and a member of First Baptist Church, Oakboro.

Survivors include his wife, Comatra Hester Wallace; and stepbrother Raeford Wallace, Tampa, Fla.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday, graveside, Oakboro Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Terrell Watts.

Visitation: Sunday and Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

 

Dr. Patricia Wyatt

GOLDHILL — The funeral will be Tuesday for Dr. Patricia Mae Rector Wyatt, 45, who died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a month of illness.

Born Aug. 30, 1954, in Rowan County, Dr. Wyatt was the daughter of Theodore “Ted” M. and Ester “Dolly” Morris Rector of Salisbury. A 1972 graduate of South Rowan High School, she received a bachelor of arts degree from Catawba College in 1976. She earned her master’s degree and her doctorate in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was an associate professor of sociology at Catawba College in Salisbury.

A member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gold Hill, Dr.Wyatt also was a Youth Sunday School teacher and a church trustee. She had been secretary-treasurer for the N.C. Sociological Association for the past eight years.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Larry E. Wyatt, whom she married June 5, 1993; son Nathan Alan Wyatt, of the home; and brother David M. Rector.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Omwake-Dearborne Chapel, Catawba College, conducted by the Rev. Mark Helms, pastor of Zion United Methodist Church. Burial, Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gold Hill.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Monday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.
