Sossmon Brown, 68, formerly of 19530 Oak St., died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Huntersville
Oaks, Huntersville.
Born May 16, 1931, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Brown was a
daughter of Fannie Deaton Sossmon, Cornelius, and the late Harvey Sossmon. She had retired
as a teachers assistant at Cornelius Elementary School.
Her husband, Ralph Brown, died May 27, 1993.
Survivors include sons Bennett, Jackie and Scott Brown, all
of Mooresville; daughter Mrs. Dalton (Cathy) Howard, Mooresville; brother Jerry Sossmon,
Cornelius; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

ALBEMARLE Lucille Crawford Clark, 74, 121 Garfield
Ave., died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at her home.
Born June 22, 1925, in Union County, Mrs. Clark was a
daughter of the late Fred Marsden and Flavilla Brantley Crawford. A retired florist, she
owned and operated Lucilles Flower and Hobby Shop.
She was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church, where
she was a former Sunday school teacher and Bible school worker. She also did volunteer
work with the Alzheimers unit at Britthaven of the Piedmont.
Survivors include husband Martin Dennie Clark; sons Stephen
and Tony Clark, both of Barnwell, S.C.; daughter Dianne Clark Gold, Tega Cay, S.C.;

Tammy Stroud Dixon

Tammy Rena Stroud Dixon, 37, Farm Road, who died in 1999.
Born Jan. 10, 1963, Mrs. Dixon was the daughter of Austin
Stroud, China Grove, and the late Janice Hall Stroud. She was educated in the Rowan County
schools. A homemaker, she was a Baptist.

KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Sunday for Eunice
Corena Hurst Eller, 85, 1502 W. A St., who died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at NorthEast
Medical Center, Concord.
Born Dec. 16, 1914, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs.
Eller was a daughter of the late Joseph Oscar and Martha Jane Mills Hurst. She had retired
from Cannon Mills sheet department.
A member of Lakewood Baptist Church, she was church
secretary for a number of years. She was also past president of the Womens
Missionary Union, a former Girls Auxiliary leader, church historian, and former librarian
and pianist. She taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and had served as chairman of
the funeral food committee for the past 40 years.
The first pianist at Ladys Funeral Home, she worked
for the Red Cross during World War II.
Survivors include husband Gilbert Franklin Eller; daughter
Karon Jane Eller Goble, Faith; son Ronald Franklin Eller, Ketchikan, Alaska; sister Betty

LEXINGTON Patsy Bradley Everhart, 59, Old Salisbury
Road, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, after
three years of declining health.
Born July 26, 1940, in Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Everhart was
a daughter of Ruth Marie Dye Bradley and the late Ralph E. Bradley. She was a member of
Coggins Memorial Baptist Church.
A daughter, Pam Nard, preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband Guy
W. Everhart; son Greg Nard, Concord; daughters Mrs. Jeff (Suzy) Patterson and Mrs. Reggie

Louise Jordan Goodman, 60, 208 Fisher St., who died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at her home
after 14 months of declining health.
Born Nov. 17, 1939, in Ruby, S.C., Mrs. Goodman was a
daughter of Leona Woodward Jordan, Kannapolis, and the late William Lee Jordan. She had
retired due to disability from PMI-Mortons of Concord and Harrisburg. A member of
Brookdale Baptist Church, she was a 1957 graduate of Winecoff High School.

daughter of the late Ernest B. and Faye Rikard Skidmore. A graduate of Winthrop College,
she had retired as a teacher in the Stanly County schools. She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church.

daughter of the late Clarence and Novah Sherrill Hildebran. She had retired from Aeroquip
after 18 years with the company. She was a member of Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department
Womens Auxiliary.
Her husband, James Franklin Bill Mayhew,
preceded her in death.

MOORESVILLE Robert Charles Surratt, 69, West Wilson
Avenue, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at his home.
Born Aug. 12, 1930, in High Point, Mr. Surratt was a son of
the late Charlie Howard and Alice Carrick Surratt. He had retired as a supervisor with
Burlington Industries after 40 years with the company.
Mr. Surratt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of First Assembly of God.

Alma Shives Trexler, 85, Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury,
formerly of Stokes Ferry Road, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center after six years of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born May 21, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Trexler was a
daughter of the late William Harrison and Ida Rosebelle Weaver Shives. A 1932 graduate of
Boyden High School, she also attended Salisbury Business College.
She spent 25 years as a bookkeeper with W.H. Leonard
Jewelry. She and her late husband also operated Trexler Modern Food Market until both
retired in 1983.
She was a member of Dunns Mountain Baptist Church, Granite
Quarry, where she was active in the Golden Age Sunday School Class and the Womens
Missionary Union. She was also a former Sunday school teacher.
Her husband, Cletus Adam Clete Trexler, died
Sept. 7, 1993, and a stepdaughter, Annie Mae Shepherd, died Dec. 1, 1998.
Survivors include son Harold Eugene Kimball Jr., New
Orleans; stepsons Cletus Trexler Jr., James T. Trexler and Roy J. Trexler, all of
Salisbury, and Ralph Trexler, Gold Hill; stepdaughters Mrs. Don (Margaret) Livengood and

Charlie Gaither Angell
MOCKSVILLE The funeral will be Saturday for Charlie
Gaither Angell, 75, Brantley Farm Road, who died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Kate B.
Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born Oct. 24, 1924, in the Cana community, Mr. Angell was a
son of the late Charlie Brantley and Minnie Lathan Angell. He was co-owner and operator of
Brantley Farms Inc.
He was a charter member and one of the founders of Blaise
Baptist Church, where he was former chairman of the deacon board. He had served as Sunday
school superintendent and was a former member of the building committee and the church
choir. He also was a church usher and greeter.
His family was named Davie Soil and Water Conservation
District Farm Family of the Year twice. He had also been honored by the DHIA Association.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the World War II era.
Survivors include wife Nellie Wilson Angell, whom he
married 49 years ago; daughter Marcia Angell Beck, Mocksville; son James Russell Angell,
Mocksville; brothers Verious B. Angell, Mocksville, and Ervin J.Angell, Manteo; and four
grandchildren.

Born Sept. 18, 1906, in Davie County, Mrs. Brown was a
daughter of the late Josephine Ijames and W.C. Wilson. A 1927 graduate of Harmony High
School, she had retired from Erwin Mills. She had also worked for Bluemont of Mocksville.
She was a member of Hardison United Methodist Church, where
she taught Sunday school in the youth department and was a member of the Womens
Circle.
Her husband, Everette Hugh Brown, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Bill and Dale Brown, both of
Mocksville, and Steve Brown, Salisbury; daughter Nancy Norvill, Matthews; 13
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Grace Lyerly Doyle
GRANITE QUARRY Grace Lyerly Doyle, 74, Granite
Quarry, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She had
been in declining health several years.
Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Rowan County, Mrs. Doyle was a
daughter of the late Mary Evan Beaver and Charles Henry Lyerly. She graduated from Granite
Quarry High School in 1942 and from Catawba College in 1946 with a degree in home
economics and business. She was a homemaker.
She was named Citizen of the Year by the Granite Quarry
Civitans and had held all offices in the Livengood-Peeler-Wood American Legion Post
Auxiliary 448. She was also active in the Granite Quarry Historical Foundation.
A lifetime member of Christiana Lutheran Church, she was a
former WELCA president. Organizer of the Altar Guild, she taught in the church nursery for
many years. She also made most of the banners for the church.
She was the first president of the Erwin Middle School PTA
and a former member of the Granite Quarry PTA.
A son, Kennedy P. Kippy Doyle III, died in
1953.
Survivors include husband Ken P. Doyle, whom she married
Feb. 25, 1947; daughters Matilda Eddy, Clemmons, LaVaughn Beaver and Kate Beretsky, both
of Granite Quarry, and Gwen Saunders, Yadkinville; and eight grandchildren.

Salisbury, who died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a
period of declining health.
Born Aug. 4, 1939, in Stuart, Va., Mr. Turner was a son of
the late Mattie Craddock and John Christenbury Turner. He was educated at Rowan-Cabarrus
Community College.
Formerly employed with Fiber Industries (KoSa), he had
retired due to ill health from Mount Pleasant Correctional Institute.
A member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, he had been
a volunteer with the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years.
Survivors include wife Rachel Morgan Turner, whom he
married Oct. 19, 1957; son Ricky James Turner, Salisbury; daughter Lisa Turner Holshouser,
