Kathleen Wagner BallardCHINA GROVE Kathleen Wagner Ballard, 84, died Thursday (March 23,
2000) at her home.
Born April 13, 1915, in Rowan
County, Mrs. Ballard was a daughter of the late Earl Leroy and Florence Upright Wagner.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon.
She was a member of First United
Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Sunday school and the Young at Heart
group.
Her husband, Luther T. Ballard,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Ted W.
Ballard, China Grove; brothers the Rev. Donald S. Wagner, China Grove, and Wesley Wagner,
Lodi, Calif.; sister Myrtle Elliott, China Grove; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, First
United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rusty Inman and the Rev. James Faggart.
Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Jackie Tyson Fink, 71, 1495 Oakwood Ave., died Wednesday (March 22, 2000) at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health.
Born Nov. 7, 1928, in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Fink was a daughter of the late Bryan Tyson and Virginia Starnes TysonGarmon.
She was a graduate of High Point College.
Mrs. Fink was employed in the
order and data processing department at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, for 30 years before her
retirement in 1984. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and its J.L. Smith
Sunday School Class.
Survivors include husband Ed Fink;
sons Keith B. Fink, Concord, and Dean Fink, Kannapolis; brother Ed Tyson, Kannapolis;
sisters Mrs. John (Gwen) Cavin, China Grove, and Mrs. Sam (Libby)Pressley, Landis; and
three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday,
Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman and the Rev. Wes Judy.

John Dillard Gilbert, 77, 330
Kings Terrace, died Friday (March 10, 2000) at Carillon Assisted Living after a period of
declining health.
Born June 18, 1922, in Greenville,
S.C., Mr. Gilbert was a son of the late John and Irene Lindsay Gilbert. He was educated in
the Greenville schools.
He served in the U.S. Navy during
WorldWar II. He had retired as a self-employed service center operator.
Survivors include wife Katherine
Gilbert, Salem, Ore.; sons John D. Gilbert, Kodiak, Alaska, and William W. Gilbert,
Arlington, Wash.; daughters Darla Jean Craig, Rio Del, Calif., and Elaine Marie Johnson,
Stanwood,Wash.; brothers Ralph Gilbert, Midway, and Roy Gilbert, High Point; sister Ruby
Hatley, Lexington; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: The body will be
cremated and a memorial service held at a later date.

The funeral will be Saturday for
Mamie Lorene Schenk Leazer, 81, Salisbury, who died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Rowan
County, Mrs. Leazer was a daughter of the late James Edward and Blanche Elizabeth Graham
Schenk. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.
She had been employed at
Fieldcrest-Cannon and later retired from Hurley Elementary School food services in 1982.
She was a homemaker.
A member of Salem Lutheran Church,
she was a lifelong member of WELCA and a member of the Keenage Club. She had also been a
member of Heartcare Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Survivors include her husband of
64 years, Marvin Joseph Leazer, whom she married Dec. 21, 1935; son Marvin Joseph Leazer
Jr., Salisbury; daughters Mrs. Burton (Geraldine)Aldridge and Mrs. Phillip (Jan) Wise,
both of Salisbury, and Mrs. Tony (Peggy) Winker, North Wilkesboro; brothers Richard Lee
Schenk, Chula Vista, Calif., and Gurney Franklin Schenk, Salisbury; sisters Worthy
Nick Inez Leazer, Salisbury, and Mary Elizabeth Allen,Granite Quarry; nine
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

William Clarence Montieth, 93,
Salisbury, died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at his home after 10 months of declining health
and three months of serious illness.
Born Nov. 24, 1906, in Iredell
County, Mr. Montieth was a son of the late John Gaston and Cora Elizabeth Boger Montieth.
Educated in the IredellCounty schools, he had retired after 45 years with
Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant 7.
He was a member of Dunns Mountain
Baptist Church, where he was active with the KEYClub and the Seniors Sunday School Class.
A member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge 576 AF &AM, he received his 50-year pin in
1999. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World, Camp 175; the National Federation of
the Blind; and the Granite Quarry Senior Citizens Club.
A son, Nolan Montieth, died in
1980.
Survivors include his wife of 66
years, Gladys Smith Montieth, whom he married Oct. 7, 1933; daughter Peggy Montieth
Whitley, Salisbury; sisters Grace Steele, Kannapolis, Gladys Kimmer, Odessa Steele and
Louise Lomax, all of Salisbury, and Viola Cline, Concord; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Patterson, 11, 6005 Meadowview Drive, died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at his home after
seven months of declining health and a month of serious illness.
Born July 6, 1988, in Mecklenburg
County, the youth was a son of Jamie Patterson. He had attended Odell Elementary School
and Northwest Middle School and had played Dixie Youth Baseball. He was an honorary
assistant fire chief at Enochville Fire Department.
Survivors, in addition to his
mother, include brother Joey Whitaker, of the home; sister Wendy Whitaker, of the home;
grandparents Brad Patterson, Concord, and Rebecca Furr, Kannapolis; great-grandmother
Hazel C. Furr, Concord; and stepfather Joe Whitaker.

Born Aug. 4, 1926, in Chesterfield
County, S.C., Mrs. Stallings was a daughter of the late John Letty and Fronie Honeycutt
Merriman. She had retired from Cannon Mills after 50 years with the company.
Her husband, Lewis Matthew
Stallings, died April 21, 1992, and Aileen Sloop, who reared Mrs. Stallings, died Jan. 6,
1993.

Stallings, Kannapolis; sister Cleo Edwards, Charlotte; and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be Saturday for
John Leo Thomas, 80, Salisbury, who died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 13, 1919, in Rowan
County, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Reuben Fulton and Carrie Kester Thomas. Educated
in the Rowan County schools, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He
had retired after 28 years as a control operator at Buck Steam Plant.
He was an active member of
Wittenberg Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry, the Lutheran Men and the David Lohn Sunday
School Class. A volunteer with Meals on Wheels at the church, he also worked on the church
newsletter and had served on the church council. He was a member of Spencer Masonic Lodge
543.
Survivors include wife Edyth
Bringle Thomas, whom he married June 30, 1950; daughter Mrs. John (Jan) Kyle, Greer, S.C.;
brothers Milton and Ronald Thomas, both of Salisbury; sisters Gaynelle Leonard, Eloise
Eller and Mildred Beaver, all of Salisbury, Kathryn Hester, Greensboro, and LaVerne Mull,
Gastonia; and two grandchildren.
