Odessa Lowder Burleson, 95, 26750 Burleson Road, died Tuesday (March 21, 2000) at North
Carolina Lutheran Nursing Homes, Inc.
Born April 30, 1904, in Stanly County, Mrs. Burleson had
been a business woman and farmer and had worked in the dairy and poultry business. She was
a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include sons Jay Brice, Ted E. and Johnny P.
Burleson, all of Albemarle; daughters Ruby B. Greene and Hilda B. Snuggs, both of
Albemarle, and Del B. Nunn, Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday,Pine Grove United Methodist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Curran Welch and the Rev. Martha Welch. Burial, church
cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other
times the family will be at the home on Burleson Road.

Paul Bryant Burr
ALBEMARLE Paul Bryant Burr, 60, 714 W. Oakwood Ave.,
died Tuesday (March 21, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1939, in Brunswick County, Mr. Burr was a son
of Estelle Lefler Burr, Albemarle, and the late John D. Burr. He had worked as a dock
attendant at Collins &Aikman.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Betty
Jean Bet Huneycutt Burr; son Paul Burr Jr., Albemarle; daughter Tamala
Tammy Freeman, Albemarle; brothers Bill Burr, Thomasville, Haywood Burr,
Gresham, S.C., and Kenneth Burr, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister Linda Long, Albemarle; and
three grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Fairview Memorial Park,
conducted by Barry Dick.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be at the home on West Oakwood Avenue.

Esther Shenk Butler, 85, Salisbury, died Wednesday (March
22, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Vivian Wiseman Crawford
The funeral will be Friday for Vivian Wiseman Crawford, 54,
103 Hemlock Drive, who died Monday (March 21, 2000) at her home after a period of
declining health.
Born May 18, 1945, in Salisbury, Mrs. Crawford was a
daughter of the late Sherman and Ethel Mitchell Wiseman. She had attended Monroe Street
School, J.C. Price High School and Rowan Technical College, now Rowan Cabarrus Community
College. Last employed at Granite Knitwear, she was a former member of Soldiers Memorial
AMEZion Church.
Survivors include husband George Crawford; son Durwood
Bynum, Salisbury; daughter Racquell Crawford, of the home; foster daughter Quanesha
Campbell, Salisbury; sisters Margie Saulters, Edith Childers and Peggy Rankin, all of
Salisbury, Mary Wiseman-Lyons, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Nell Roberts, Charlotte; and one
grandchild.

KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Thursday for Margaret
Sides Cagle, 78, 1003 Michigan Ave., who died Monday (March 20, 2000) at NorthEast Medical
Center, Concord, after a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cagle was a
daughter of the late Herman and Nina Brown Sides. She had retired after 46 years fromTerry
Products and was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church.
Her husband, Elsie Martin Cagle, died March 30, 1969.
Survivors include son Donald R. Cagle, Montgomery, Ala.;
sisters Helen Kiser, Greenville, S.C., and Wilma Brigman, Levay Jordan and Zelia Pope, all
of Kannapolis; brother Herman Sides Jr., Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE Florence Poplin Underwood, 91, 33426 Old
Salisbury Road, died Monday (March 20, 2000) at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Born May 20, 1908, in Stanly County, Mrs. Underwood was a
daughter of the late Rufus J. and Eliza Whitley Poplin. A homemaker, she attended Liberty
Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Oakboro.
Her husband, Roy Underwood, died in 1978.
Survivors include daughter Evelyn U. Farrar, Charlotte;
brother Johnny Ray Poplin, Marshville; sisters Bobbie Smith, Elsie Burris and Ruby Smith,
all of Albemarle, Faye McIntyre and Joyce Lineberry, both of Asheboro, Hazeline Herrin,
Charlotte, and Dolores Underwood, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two step-grandchildren.
