Nathaniel Tommy Abel, 57, 105 Harrell Court, died Friday (March 17, 2000) at
Rowan Regional Medical Center following a day of serious illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1942, in Salisbury, Mr. Abel was a
son of the late Edward and Robbie Goodman Abel. He attended J.C. Price High School,
Salisbury, and was a retired construction worker. Mr. Abel was a former member of Fairview
Heights Baptist Church, Salisbury.
Survivors include sons Thomas N. Abel, David
Edward Abel and Antonio Ingram, all of Salisbury; daughters Faith Abel and Sandra Abel,
both of Salisbury; brothers Robert E.Abel and Kevin Abel, of the home, and Kenneth Abel,
Salisbury; sisters Deborah A. Johnson, Salisbury, Evelyn Walker, Senecca,S.C., Brenda
Abel, Salisbury and Patricia Abel, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.

Retirement.
Born Jan. 5, 1956, in Cabarrus County, Ms. Cox was
the daughter of the late Gary Melvin and Joan Whittington Hudson. She was a homemaker.

Pompano Beach, Fla. Benjamin Alexander
Crouch, 84, formerly of Taylorsville, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at North Broward
Medical Center, Pompano Beach.
Born in Alexander County, Feb. 28, 1916, Mr.
Crouch was a son of the late Mary Ella and Allie Elijah Crouch Sr. He was a retired
construction worker and attended Coral Ridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by wife Ollie Stack
Crouch, brothers Allie Elijah Crouch Jr., Jacob Coolidge Crouch, James Leonard Crouch and
Thomas Meredith Crouch and sister Lindle Iona Crouch.
Survivors include daughter Patsy Smith, Ala.;
sisters Willie Pauline Stikeleather, Stony Point, Thethile Deat Davis, China
Grove and Texi Mano Cricket Bradshaw, Kannapolis; stepson Roy Smith, Ga.;
stepdaughter Wanda Walters, Fla.; and three stepgrandchildren.

CHARLOTTE Jacob Warren Faggart, 73, Beverly
Health Care Renaissance Center, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital.
Born April 15, 1926, in Cabarrus County,
Mr.Faggart was the son of the late Thomas and Josephine Bost Faggart. He had attended
Cabarrus County schools and worked at Cannon Mills Plant 1. Mr. Faggart was a U.S. Army
Veteran of World War II and a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church.
His wife, Daisy Allen Faggart, died March 10,
1997.
Survivors include sons Timothy E. Faggart,
Schertz, Texas, Solomon J. Faggart, Sumter, S.C., Shawn Gabriel Faggart, Atlanta, Joel T.
Faggart, Mt. Holly; daughters Wanda D.Faggart, Atlanta, Vida G. Faggart, Salisbury, Sheila

Second St., died Saturday (March 18, 2000) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham due
to declining health.
Born Sept. 20, 1988, in Davidson County, Terrance
was the son of Leslie Marlene Hayes, of the home, and Alexander Vonzell Clark, Raleigh. A
sixth-grade honor student at North Rowan Middle, he was a member of Halls Chapel
Primitive Baptist Church.
His paternal grandfather, Greg Gibson, and his
maternal great-grandmother, Mary Brooker, preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents, survivors include
brothers Rushion Cook, Harrisburg, and Devon Brown, Salisbury; maternal grandmother
Roberta Hayes,Salisbury; paternal grandmother Margaret Clark, China Grove; maternal
grandfather Charles Brooker, Salisbury; maternal great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William

ALBEMARLE Charlie McGee Jr., 67, 520
WaddellDr., died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born June 9, 1932, in Hollandale, Miss., Mr.McGee
was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McGee. Educated in Hollandale public schools,
he was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mills, Albemarle.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Tatum McGee;
stepson William Davis, Burlington, N.J.; daughters Doris Ann McGee, Calif., and Rosa Lee
McGee, Hollandale; stepdaughter Janette Carver, Sayerville, N.J.; sisters Geneva Rawls and
Louise Johnson, both of Hollandale, and Lillie Mae James, Chicago, Ill.; and eight
grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS Bertie Ann Ross Queen, 92,
formerly of 314 Pine St., died Saturday (March 18, 2000) at Big Elm Nursing Center.
Born July 2, 1907, in Fannin County, Ga., Mrs.
Queen was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Laura Cole Ross. She was employed with
Cannon Mills Company, plants 1 and 4 in the spinning room for about 50 years before
retiring in 1971. A member of West Point Baptist Church, she was a resident of the area
since 1922.
Her husband, Russell Queen, died in 1969 and
daughter Mary Laura Petrea died April 29, 1966.
Survivors include daughter Patsy Q. Steen,
Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

of 707 Fairview St., died Saturday (March 18, 2000) at Concord Nursing Home following a
serious illness.

Robert Stockton Sr.
Robert Stockton Sr., 86, 7010 Mooresville Rd.,
died Saturday (March 18, 2000) at Genesis Nursing Center following a period of declining
health.
Born April 17, 1913, in Catawba County, Mr.
Stockton was a son of the late Abraham and Nancy Burton Stockton. Educated in Catawba
County public schools, he was a retired farmer. Mr. Stockton was a member of Sills Creek
AME Zion Church, a father of the church and on the Lay Council. He also participated at
the West Rowan Senior Citizens Meal Site.
His wife, Rosetta Johnson Stockton, died June 12,
1995, and son, Robert John Stockton, died Sept. 14, 1997.
Survivors include sons James Stockton, Salisbury,
Howard Stockton, Cooleemee, and Lewis William Stockton of the home; daughters Mary
Andrews, Springfield, Mass., Nancy Houston and Dorothy Marshall, both of Washington, Md.,
Annie Stockton of the home and Rosie Stockton, Charlotte; brother Roosevelt Stockton,
Salisbury; sisters Valentine Partee, Washington, D.C., Inez Sloan, Mooresville, Banner
Fleming and Janie Cornelius,both of Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE Joshua Franklin Josh
White, 86, of Sheffield Road, died Friday (March 17, 2000) at Kate B.Reynolds Hospice
Home, Winston-Salem.
Born July 12, 1913, in Davie County, Mr.White was
the son of the late Ossie Tutterow and James Franklin White. He retired from Heritage
Furniture Company, Mocksville, after 30 years of service. A member of Calahaln Friendship
Baptist Church, he was former president of the adult Sunday School class and a member of
the church choir.
He was preceded in death by son Don White and
daughter Linda White.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mamie
Marie Cleary White; sons Jerry F.White and Mac White, both of Mocksville; daughters Janie
White Dixon and Geraldine White Dwiggins, both of Mocksville; sisters Hattie Naylor,
Mocksville and Hazel Baity, Clemmons; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and
two step-grandchildren.
