Ralph Addison Barringer, 81, Bethlehem Church Road, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000)
at the Hefner VAMedical Center in Salisbury.
Born Sept. 12, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Barringer was a son of the late J.F. and Ella Hahm Barringer. Retired since 1980 as
maintenance supervisor at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, he was a member of St.
Stephens Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include brother Herman Barringer, Gold
Hill; and sister Oma Foil, Rockwell.

Hollie Tevepaugh Bost
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Friday for
Hollie Tevepaugh Bost, 80, 200 Tunnel Road, Asheville, formerly of Plymouth Street, who
died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at her home.
Born May 12, 1919, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Bost was
a daughter of the late Beatrice Tevepaugh. She was educated in the Wilkes County schools.
She had retired as a switchboard operator at
Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, Concord, now NorthEast Medical Center. She was a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her husband, Junius L. Bost, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include son Doyle Bost, Concord;
daughter Joyce B. Hendrix, Asheville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE Paul Lester Dwiggins, 85, Towery
Road, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at Davie County Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1914, in Davie County, Mr. Dwiggins
was a son of the late Samuel and Eva Seaford Dwiggins. A cattle farmer, he served in the
U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a lifelong member of Hardison United Methodist
Church, where he was the oldest member at the time of his death.

Houston, 94, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center
after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1906, in Rockwell, Mrs. Houston was a
daughter of the late James Franklin and Lou Eller Walser Garwood. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, she had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Mills in 1968 after 34 years with
the company.
She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist
Church, where she was active in the Katheryn Porter Circle and the Homemakers Bible Class.
Her husband, Lester Oren Houston, died Jan. 23,
1988.
Survivors include daughter Rebecca Houston
Ellenburg, Salisbury; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 11
great-great-grandchildren.

was a son of the late Fred Lee and Vivian Beaver Karriker. A graduate of Landis High
School, he had retired from Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance Co.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and
the Enochville Lions Club, where he had served as treasurer for many years.

Smith Karriker; son Larry William Karriker, Kannapolis; daughters Rebecca Ann

Moose, 70, 914 Taylor St., who died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord, after an illness of six months.
Born May 18, 1929, in Iredell County, Mr. Moose
was a son of Mary Honeycutt Moose, Kannapolis, and the late John Moose. Educated in the
Cabarrus County schools, he attended Charity Baptist Church.
He had been employed for the past 13 years with
Fieldcrest-Cannon, now Pillowtex, Plant 6, packaging department. He had earlier spent 40
years with the Daily Independent newspaper.
A son, Daniel Ray Moose, died in December 1953.
Survivors include wife Frankie Sloan Moose, whom
he married Sept. 9, 1950; son Clyde Alexander Alex Moose Jr., Lake Norman; and
four granddaughters.

an extended illness.
Born in Union County, Mrs. Simpson was a daughter
of the late Oscar and Lillie Long Helms. She had retired in 1984 from Cannon Mills, Plant
1, No. 5 weave room.
Her husband of 47 years, Bainer Marsh Simpson,
died Oct. 13, 1983.
Survivors include daughters Helen Simpson, Gaynell
S. Goodnight and Margaret S. Blackwelder, all of Kannapolis; sons Billy M., Kenneth O.,
Robert K. and B. Charles Simpson, all of Kannapolis; sisters Ethel Broome, Kannapolis, and

Anita Claire Lavelle Taylor, 89, 708 Crane Creek
Road, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis.
Born Feb. 8, 1911, in Brookville, Pa., Mrs. Taylor
was a daughter of the late Alexander and Cora Ellen Shovestull Lavelle. A homemaker, she
was a past matron of Service Chapter 680, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of
Grace United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Wallace Russell Taylor, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include sons Robert Taylor,New London,
and Donald Taylor, Dunnellon, Fla.; daughters Frances Lamb, Binghamton, N.Y., Joan Gurney,
Lexington, Ky., and Linda Taylor, Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Berdie Mae Watkins, 60, 106 Chestnut St.,
Apartment 2, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical
Center, Winston-Salem, after several years of declining health and nine days of serious
health.
Born April 28, 1939, in Granite Quarry, Ms.
Watkins was the daughter of the late Robert Arthur and Fannie M. Weldon Watkins. She was
educated in the Rowan County schools. A retired nurse, she had been employed at the Hefner
VA Medical Center and at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of White Rock AMEZion Church,
Granite Quarry, where she had previously served on the Usher Board.
Survivors include sons Ronald L. Beatty, Granite
Quarry, and Mike Anthony and Julian Andrew Watkins, both of Salisbury; brother Grady L.
Watkins, Detroit, Mich.; and sisters Alice Thompson, Inkister, Mich., Mamie W. McKay, New
York City, and Barbara J. Hosch, Salisbury.
