Dema Christy Freeman Adcock, 86, formerly of Maplewood Street, died Tuesday (March
14, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Retirement, Concord.
Born May 3, 1913, in Iredell County, Mrs. Adcock
was a daughter of the late Jonathan Monroe and Ada Beaver Christy. She retired several
years ago after 40 years with Cannon Mills Plant One.
She was a member of First Wesleyan Church,
Kannapolis.
Her first husband,Luther C. Freeman, died in 1957,
and her second husband, Henry Ernest Adcock, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughter Doris Freeman Hancock,
Charlotte; stepdaughters Mildred Hinson, Kannapolis, and Thelma McCool, Chesnee, S.C.;
stepsons Lawrence Freeman, Misenheimer, and the Rev. Harold Adcock and Owen and Tommy
Adcock, all of Kannapolis; sisters Belva Lewis, Concord, Macel Bass, Troutman, and
Hortense Compton, Statesville; brothers Harold Christy, Mooresville, and Fred Christy,
Sherrills Ford; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, First Wesleyan Church,
conducted by the Rev. Dr. ForbisKivett and the Rev. Stephen Ratliff. Burial, Carolina
Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Ladys Funeral Home.

Millingport Road, died Monday (March 13, 2000) at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Jan. 4, 1927, in Montgomery County, Mr. Blake
was a son of the late Oliver and Estelle Morgan Blake. He had worked as a pipe fitter. A
veteran of the U.S. Marines, he had served in World War II and in Korea.
Survivors include wife Connie Almond Blake,
Albemarle; son Terry Blake, Norwood; daughter Rene Luther, Albemarle; and five
grandchildren.

William Ernest Harris
William Ernest Harris, 87, Salisbury, died Tuesday
(March 14, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Oct. 4, 1912, in Bessemer City, Mr. Harris
was a son of the late William Marion and Daisy Ross Barnett Harris. Educated in the Gaston
County schools, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
A paint and body mechanic since 1943, he had
worked for Raney Motor Co. and Aaron and Byerly Chevrolet Co. before retiring in 1986. He
had been a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church since 1932, where he was on the
usher staff since 1940 and chairman of the usher staff for over 20 years. He had also been
a member of the Knights of Pythias since 1943.
Survivors include wife Virginia Finney Harris,
whom he married Nov. 4, 1933; brothers Dewitt Harris, Greenville, S.C., and Clyde Harris,
Columbia, S.C.; and sister Annie Mae Hoffman, Gastonia.

Born Nov. 13, 1913, in Davidson County, Mr. Hege
was the son of the late Joe Lorenzo and Myrtle Sadie Robertson Hege. A retired farmer and
saw mill operator, he was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church and the Mens
Bible Class. He had been a local farm committee member for Davidson County.
Survivors include daughter Linda Leonard,
Lexington; son Mike Hege, Clemmons; sisters Inez Myers, Clemmons, and Lottie Taylor,
Winston-Salem; brothers Hubert Hege, Lexington, and John Ray Hege, Clemmons; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Elwood Mize
Robert Elwood Mize, 75, 5220 Statesville Blvd.,
died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after seven months of
serious illness.
Born Aug. 27, 1924, in Salisbury, Mr. Mize was a
son of the late John R. and Alice McDaniel Mize. He served in the U.S. Army in the North
Africa Campaign and Operation Overlord, which liberated France. A sergeant in the 787th
Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the
Silver Star and American Theater Service Medal.
Mize was a life member of Veterans of Foreign
Wars, a member of Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFWPost 3006 and a life member of Harold B. Jarrett
American Legion Post 342.
He had been employed with Greenville Textiles in
Greenville, S.C., prior to his retirement. A member of Second Presbyterian Church, he was
a sponsor member of Ducks Unlimited.

brothers Henry C. Mize, Salisbury, and Ernest C. Mize, Charlotte; and sisters Lorraine

The funeral will be Thursday for George Alexander
Page, 78, Salisbury, who died Monday (March 13, 2000) at Spencer Health Care after a
period of declining health.
Born Sept. 21, 1921, in Stanly County, Mr. Page, a
son of the late Daniel C. and Elizabeth Dunn Page, was educated in the Stanly County
schools. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Page retired as plant supervisor with Stanback
Powder Co. An active member of Haven Lutheran Church, he was a Sunday school teacher and
past president of the church council and the Lutheran Men of the church. A former state
president and life member of the Lutheran Men in Mission and the executive committee, he
was a YMCA trustee with Home Mission Foundation for the Lutheran Men. He had served on the
Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and was past president and a charter member of the Industrial
Management Council.
Survivors include wife Alice Foil Page, whom he
married June 16, 1946; daughter Judy Page, Greensboro; brother Phil Page, Glen St. Mary,
Fla.; and sisters Isabelle Hatley and Esther Bryson, both of Millingport.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Haven Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. Ronald W. Fink. Members of Lutheran Men in Mission will be seated as
