North Rowan baseball holds off War Eagles

BY ED DUPREE
SALISBURY POST

MOCKSVILLE — It got interesting at the end, but North Rowan held off Davie County 4-3 on Thursday afternoon in nonconference baseball.

North pitcher Brandon Doby (2-0) carried a shutout into the seventh before allowing three runs in a desperate rally by the War Eagles. Daniel Moore came on for a strikeout to end the game.

“Doby was outstanding,” said North coach Bill Kesler. “He was one pitch from a shutout.”

Doby, a sophomore, fanned eight.

Aaron Rimer had two hits for the Cavaliers (2-1). Brad Canipe and Eric Mowery had RBIs. Canipe, making a rare appearance in the outfield, scored two runs. Keith Cauble did the catching.

“We hadn’t played in some time, but we put together our best game of the year,” said Kesler.

The Cavs open 2A Central Carolina Conference play tonight at Ledford with Moore on the mound and will play host to East Rowan on Saturday afternoon.

Davie (3-3) got RBIs from Ross Smith and Andrew Daywalt.

Smith was the losing pitcher, despite hurling six solid innings.
